  1. My biggest gripe with eBay is how little they care about bootlegs. And it continues to get worse and worse. So many pirates out there, and they are getting really good at looking completely like the real thing, even with box and everything. PC Engine CD is really bad off (the creator of them always states that they are copies, but eBay resellers don't care if they can make a buck), but NES and especially SNES are getting possibly even worse lately. Stuff like this is obviously illegal to even sell, so it's pretty distasteful that eBay does absolute nothing to keep it at bay in spite of continuous complaints. Makes it very hard to spot original copies, and I've been close to making mistakes more than a few times. Aside from that, I'm pretty happy with eBay in general. I wouldn't have been able to find 95% of my video game collection without it.
  2. Are you people seriously buying every single US Switch release?!
  3. I don't think I even know of any games coming out this year outside of the first episode of the FF7 remake. I've rarely had so little to look forward to. I guess I'll have to peruse this thread for good tips. EDIT: Alright, nothing else really caught my attention. I might have been excited for the RE3make if I've played the RE2 one. But I haven't even played the RE1make yet! I really need to get on these. Cyberpunk 2077 could be cool. CD Projekt Red tend to know what they're doing, but then again if it's anything like Witcher 3 it'll be good, but very repetitive and not too memorable. I feel like they risk overstretching their capacity with this one - they get better results from tighter, more focused projects like... Witcher 2.
  4. It's in a pretty solid plastic package though, so it should be safe.
  5. If you got a nice CIB Famicom Gimmick for me, I'd probably trade my CB NES copy straight over in a heartbeat. (though I guess a more sound strategy would be buying a FC one now, and hold on to the NES one for a few more years)
  6. Sure, there's stuff like SDOJ, Ibara Kuro, and that "home" version of Akai Katana that are completely balls-out. But none of the Cave games I've bought have cost more than $1000. Fortunately XD
  7. I think shipping was like €180 or so, I'm not really sure. Often people who live near eachother order in bulk. I live in a place without a lot of genuine arcade activity going on, so that's not really an option, but I've seen people in the US or Sweden doing container orders shipped straight from Japan where the cabs are a lot cheaper because they are so common there. I bought from R Klok in the Netherlands who's probably the biggest single pusher of candy cabs in Europe. A friend of mine was getting two blast cities, so I got my astro city ordered along with them. He's in construction and had a contact he was able to get to pick up the cabinets, and then he himself drove my cab over to my doorstep. I was very lucky and didn't have to pay anything for the shipping at all. Needless to say, I owe my friend big time and always do him favors when he needs it.
  8. The Switch is region free, and there are no NTSC/PAL video standards. Nearly all modern regional releases are literally just the same thing with a new cover on. Also get this because it's a great game, not because it's a part of any "set". Come on.
  9. Haha that emulator looks familiar Now I feel super responsible if something doesn't run well. Super interesting concept for a game! I'd definitely be up for a cartridge.
  10. I'm not sure really, I've seen them sold recently for $1000? I got mine before the game was first showcased at GDQ, but it jumped a lot after that. When I bought my board it was a bit of a gamble, because I wasn't sure I'd get much play out of it in the first place, due to the dumb assumption that game is only "for experts" (which I think really isn't the case). Ironically it's been the the, by far, most played of any of my arcade games. It's just so hard to put down once you start playing! Clearing the game for the first time was an amazing experience. Still working on getting the M grade. Hell, as much as I don't like to support inflated video game prices, I wouldn't deny that the game might easily be worth $1000, it's just that good XD
  11. Hell, any "set" is ridiculous. Why buy something you have no interest in because someone said it was part of a set?
  12. Curious, what did you play then? Just rentals? I personally owned like 5(?) NES games ever until the end of that millennium, the rest were rented or borrowed. Stuff was so expensive back then
  13. I preordered mine from Play-Asia months ago, but unfortunately the entire order has been held back due to waiting for the Mega Man Zero collection
  14. Oh yeah, the western version of CV3 is definitely harder than the Japanese, in multiple little ways! Personally I usually just cheese Dracula using Sypha.
  15. I'm not historian, but this looks a lot like an Elevator Action cabinet to me. Maybe an option?
  16. Midi is uncompressed digital instrument data, not sampled audio.
  17. Not more common than the consoles obviously, but what the hell is up with Body Harvest for N64? There's gotta be a story. Pretty much every time I see someone selling lots of N64 games, Body Harvest is among it. Usually boxed too. You'd think it was an immensely popular game that sold a ton of copies, but honestly I never even heard about the game back in the heyday of the console. In fact I never noticed it at all until I started seeing it appearing in all of those listings. Apparently it's made by DMA Design too, which could explain some hype about the game - they've always been good about that. But I've never witnessed any hype myself. Did someone just unload a truck of them for bargain prices causing everyone who couldn't afford the typical new price of an N64 game (which to be fair, was outrageous) to pick one up?
  18. I guess Tetris The Grand Master 2 Plus. Fortunately I bought it while it was "low", but the prices it is going for now are so absurd you'd think it were a rare AES game. It eats Cave PCBs for breakfast. If only console games count, I guess maybe Adventure Island IV, Recca, Mr. Gimmick? I'm really not sure which one is more expensive.
  19. Are people actually excited for these whacko pieces of emulator cardboard?
  20. Definitely two unrelated things entirely. Whether you're "collecting" only licensed games, or only games from one region, one publisher, etc. is entirely your own completely arbitrary made-up limitation. And I don't really see any reason to consider any factors aside from "do I want to own this game".
  21. Yeah, but they are all from US sellers, meaning quite often gigantic shipping costs, which comes with even worse import fees.
  22. Hydorah is a vastly better game than Sine Mora. Sine Mora is not even a good game.
  23. Great to see a CV-1000 PCB. These are consistently pricey, and all the ones I own I got fairly late, so they are among my absolutely most expensive acquisitions. Here's my setup, brandishing the same title:
  24. Helloz. My name is (not actually) Sumez, from Denmark. I started out buying MVS games back in the early 00's after selling my AES, because AES collecting was getting way way way too expensive even then. At the time, nearly every Neo Geo game could be acquired as MVS cart on eBay for $10 or $20 at most, so it was a great way to get started, and it forced my to buy a Supergun so I could play the games on my TV. A couple of years later I went a bit further into the arcade territory when I acquired Bubble Memories (alongside Bubble Symphony as they were sold in a bundle). I discovered the game on a vacation to Sicily and was frustrated that it wasn't playable in mame (at the time). Of course, once arcade manages to get its foot inside your door, there's no keeping it out any longer, and since then I've acquired numerous other arcade PCBs, and storage is becoming a really big issue. In '09 I got my first arcade cabinet, a classic European woody, and in '16 I finally had the money to upgrade to a real Japanese candy cab, a Sega New Astro City. Fortunately I managed to amass most of my collection before the massive price hikes a few years back, but of course there are still games that I want, and it hurts that I now need to pay several times as much as I would only 3-5 years ago.
  25. 99 and 00 are my favourites in the KOF series. Someone needs to take this
