That loop kind of looks like it’s from a pinball game

    It does, doesn't it?

    GENERAL CONTEST RULES:

-Contest is open to all members of Video Game Sage.

    -  In order to submit a score for the contest, post a picture of it in the thread for that week.  Take a picture of your score with your Video Game Sage user name written or typed on a piece of paper, which must be present in the picture. Your Video Game Sage user name MUST be in the picture or the score will be invalid.

    - Previously obtained scores are not acceptable as submissions.  You must play the game during the week it has been selected.

    - When posting a new score, please begin your post by typing out your score.  Larger font (18pt) is preferred.

    - If you are posting an updated score, please create a new post with your new score and delete the picture from your previous post with the old score.  You may also edit your initial post with the new photo and score.

    - It is highly encouraged to play with original software on original hardware, if possible.  NTSC only.  No PAL.

    - This is a contest of skill, so using any sort of device or feature that would give you an advantage over another player is prohibited.   Examples include, but not limited to, cheat devices, save states, altered ROMs, and remapped controllers.  If turbo functions are permitted, t will be specified in the contest thread.  The use of glitches to alter your score is also not allowed.  Any other glitches will be examined on a case-by-case basis to determine whether or not they will be permitted.  Any glitches discovered by participants must be reported and approved for use before submitting a score using them.

    - Although not required, I would encourage participants not to practice a game in advance.

    - Have fun!

Initially I was planning to post this screenshot but I figured that would be immediately telling for anyone who played the game. Anyone please let me know if you would have guessed that

I probably would have gotten it with that.  I've never played the game, but I'm familiar with it and it has a very distinct style.

  5. I wound up starting work on a TurboGrafx-16 contest, which will most likely start this weekend.  Part of me wants to throw it all out though and try doing the genre specific contest instead.  I guess we'll find out in a few days.

Sorry I never responded to this, I'll participate no matter what it looks like. I'll emulate if it's TG-16, though the free-download PC contest sounds intriguing if ever happens.

We could just repeat the N64 contest lineup if someone wants to challenge my score on Ucchannanchan no Hono no Challenger: Denryū Iraira Bo.

When I was looking for a PC game to use last year, I found several good, free options.  I'm not ready to put something like that together now, but I'd like to it in the future.

If I ever do a Nintendo 64 contest again, I would like to bring Ucchannanchan no Hono no Challenger: Denryu Iraira Bo back.  If I ever do a PS1 contest, it would be very unlikely that Irritating Stick would not be included.

Oh, and if you do go with any given console, the fact is that there will always be those of us who have to emulate.  But, if you're going to choose one, either choose one most of us likely have OR choose one so obscure, 95% percent of us don't have it.  Like a Neo Geo Pocket, or an Atari Jaguar competition.

I thought about doing Jaguar, but wasn't ready to delve into its library.  Neo Geo Pocket could be fun.  I'll have to look into that one.

...It's starting to feel like I'm trying to plan these years in advance now.

Deep Blue is done. It was a stinker of a shmup. Really frustrating at times because of your ships slow movement and some of the enemies sporadic patterns. Some luck was involved during some runs as the enemy or power up placements are slightly randomized. Bosses seemed like an after thought as you could kill them in 2 seconds as long as you had any other weapon than the starting gun.

I beat this in August.  Not sure if @RetroMichel just missed it or because I wasn't sure if one loop would count.  Dd you try the second loop?  I made a few attempts, but it seemed like the fourth stage was either impossible or required a lot of luck.  I didn't want to keep playing over and over to find out.

Man it's nice to see you again. I have no idea. I was going to try and get a higher score and max it out, but then I felt like I was deterring others from competing so I stopped. Maybe Bert will tell us otherwise.

I may not be a frequent poster, but I've been around.  I think I may have maxed out the score because I think I saved everyone it's possible to save.  A bunch of them on the last three stages are almost immediately hit by monsters and I don't see a way to steer the monsters away from them.

Funny, I didn't really think about saving everyone when playing the full game (which I only got around to beating last October).  Since the number of extra lives maxes out, I didn't bother when I had a full set of lives.  I was more focused on getting to the end than getting a high score.
