  1. This is something that's been going on for well over a decade, and I've never liked it. Someone will make a public post saying that the last sale a few months ago was, say, 200 bucks. Someone made a private offer on my copy for 300 bucks. I didn't want to sell, but that was a couple months ago and we haven't seen any new copies for sale since so now it must be worth 400 bucks. Just like that, a game's value has doubled and nothing has happened. Just feels icky.
  2. The video title is misleading; should be "Dude in tank top says "sphere" weird."
  3. I am both of those people. I just don't take things seriously enough to dislike them I suppose. But also I don't like anything, really.
  4. All of a sudden it's feeling a bit like 1999 in here... I'm not going to lie, I kind of like it.
  5. Yo for real this is exactly how I've felt about the overall NES collecting scene for like 20 years. Then again, as a working class schmuck, I've spent almost my whole life completely priced out. So maybe I'm just jaded. Or a jerk. Or both.
  6. For sure. I've met Dain and I liked the guy-- really super dude. I am comfortable publicly wishing him the best. He's basically just a footnote in the video but I can only imagine he figured he was, you know, done with the whole collecting scene. The other side of the coin is I don't think Karl Jobst has to worry about being successfully sued by anyone mentioned in the video. He might get served by someone anyway though! That's just how legal teams do. Just to add that Karl has, in the past, done corrections videos and even corrects small details, so he might do the same here if things are brought to his attention.
  7. (quoting arch for old times' sake-- not meant a a direct reply to this particular post-- more a reply to some recent comments in general) Oh boy, journalism law is my favorite! Is Dain a Private Citizen or a Public Figure? Someone can be considered a public figure if they are "famous" enough, even if they don't want to be, even within a narrow band of interest. Merely discussing a person on the internet to a sufficient level can make someone a public figure. It's basically just anyone with pervasive notoriety. This is the part where whoever is reading this comment has to decide for themselves if this is the case. Now the fun part; if you are a public figure, and you want to sue for libel or defamation, you have to prove that the accused acted with malice, with clear evidence they knowingly stated a falsehood or recklessly ignored the truth. To be clear, whether the capital T Truth was actually published itself is not important when suing for damages. Only that the accused knew the truth and ignored it, or was extremely careless with the truth. This is the part where whoever is reading this comment has to decide for themselves if this is the case. But OSG, you might be saying, how can anyone sue for injury to reputation, if merely being defamed might make you a public figure? LATER NERDS
  8. So. I think this counts as related, I changed my avatar on NA to the monopoly man because of the odd comments I would see of people valuing high-end stuff for prices they had never actually sold for, with the source being, "well it could sell for that" because irreverent humor is kind of my schtick. Seems tangentially related, at minimum. Also semi-related I came back just to read this thread.
  9. Hey fellas it's me, some dude. Is something shitty happening at the top of the hobby for the first time ever?
  10. Yesterday the neighborhood people were sitting in their front yards in lawn chairs having shout-conversations with each other. I went to get some groceries and they had wash stations set up. People are going to get sick anyway because they just will, but it seems like everyone around here is taking things appropriately seriously to slow the spread. Construction is still considered essential so I could be working, but am currently at home living off of sweet sweet credit. I will perhaps work intermittently over the coming weeks until we're ordered shut down too.
  11. My kid's school is shut down for 2 weeks too. Normally this would be a nightmare but my wife's work is shutting down too. She's possibly working from home, if they can figure out a way. She's a library tech, so maybe she can populate the database from home and deal with the physical books when it reopens? I dont know. We get to find out later what's going on there. I'm in construction and there's whispers of work sites shutting down as well. If we're both home 2 weeks without pay, there's going to be some unhappy bill collectors so I hope the unions figure something out on the dollars possibly lost front. Contrary to popular belief, construction isn't an amazing way to save up a cushion of cash just in case of emergency.
  12. I dunno, it seems to me like it was a successful distraction. For example, I just went to a video game forum and clicked on a thread about impeachment and everyone was talking about Iran in there in stead. Doesn't really matter if it's popular, the subject has been changed.
  13. I think all 3 NES games are pretty good. I like 3 the most. It's very unforgiving in terms of progression but once you get the mechanics it's fun to play. 2 is good also but is extremely clunky at times. The platforming especially is unpleasant. 1 is fun at times but it's maybe the hardest for me to actually sit though. It feels the most repetitive and the least fair with its platforming sections.
  14. Nah, I'm not that guy. I know that guy though. We went pub crawling once in Toronto. That also counts as a pretty good gaming achievement, I think.
  15. Once they let me play Zelda II at AGDQ. I softlocked and had to abandon the run. Good times. I was #1 in newgame+ at the time. Now I'm #2. Good times.
  16. I am a demolition guy, specializing in hazardous materials. Mold, asbestos, lead, silica. Stuff like that. But I will destroy other things too if you'd like. Usually I don't do full demolition, just strip out the bad stuff, but I'm slated to go do a full smash job on an old building on an island out in the middle of nowhere next spring to make place for a lighthouse or something. Like, you get there by helicopter. Should be smasheriffic.
  17. I've been a part of a few community forums that splintered off from other forums, and though some of them lasted for a long time, they almost never grew on their own. They never implemented any sort of site functionality, though, they were just forums.
  18. I got 55, I think I could have gotten more? Going down the list... I completely forgot about Mach Rider. I was sure I put in Tennis, it popped in my mind several times, but I ultimately missed it. I forgot about Popeye. I forgot about Pro Wrestling. I was thinking about games that were developed by Rare, but I didn't even think of Anticipation. I didn't try to type in Donkey Kong classics, because all of the other multicarts autofilled. I forgot about Ice Hockey. I briefly considered the Power Pad but decided they probably only published WCTM and let BanDai do the rest. So I missed Power Pad completely. (Super Team Games) Adventures of Lolo? Dude please. Didn't consider Cobra Triangle during the intense "quick, what Rare games did Nintendo publish" thinkathon. (Dance Aerobics) I missed Faxanadu. Thinking about it after, it's kind of an "oh yeah" moment, not a big surprise. But I didn't think of it at all. (Short Order/Eggsplode) I forgot To The Earth completely. I did ok overall coming up with the Zapper games, but this one just didn't come to mind. Barker Bill's trick shooting did come to mind, but for some reason I was sure it was a non-Nintendo zapper game? My brain-o-banks need work. I thought of Pin*Bot during the Rare mini-brainstorm but didn't bother to enter it because the dumb part of my brain told me it was probably Tradewest. NES Play-Action Football came to mind when I was thinking of 4 player games, because I knew they published a few. I couldn't come up with the specific title though, so I missed it. Snake Rattle & Roll just didn't enter my brain at all. Forgot all about it. I was surprised it was published by Nintendo though.
  19. I'm from Toronto, but I found the people there were too nice and the roads weren't dangerous enough, so I moved to Montreal.
  20. any and all requests for me to do anything at all that requires any amount of effort will henceforth be ignored in perpetuity. regards, osg
  21. Yeah, word. https://sites.google.com/site/zeldarandomizer/ There's a lot of randomizers out there now. I also like, but haven't been playing much of, the Zelda 2 randomizer, FF1, Dragon Warrior.... I guess programmers don't have to work hard and have an extremely large amount of free time to make trivial bullshit for us? It's probably true. Also hi.
  22. Really, it depends on the flags. There's a lot of possible combinations to play around with. There are some pretty easy combinations, though, and you can knock a game out darn quick if you chose to go that way. eta: I'm talking about FF4FE, I have no experience with the other one, Lunarian Project or whatever
  23. Lately I've been finding time for a "nice" Final Fantasy 4 or Zelda randomizer seed roughly once a week. By nice, I of course mean I get trolled horribly and flip my desk.
  24. Rather than challenge runs, I got really deep into NG+ speedruns for a while, held the record for ~3 or 4 years. Took the run to Games Done Quick and a weird thing happened that I had never encountered and I ended up softlocked and had to abandon the run. That was a miserable feeling. If you've never failed something in front of a hundred thousand people, I wouldn't recommend it. I still haven't been able to watch back the video. We did some new passes on the various Z2 TASes as well a few years back, though, and that was fun as always. After all that, I felt like I might maybe be done with Zelda 2? It's sucked up so much of my life, but every so often the itch comes back anyway. I was driving home from work yesterday and a new route came to mind for the glitched any% route, just out of nowhere. I came home and tested it out and it didn't really work. So maybe I will do something else stupid with the game eventually, it never seems to fully go away. Dunno, I have a wife and kid and stuff now. It's hard to find the time to continue wasting my whole life on this game. I would like to eventually add a nice sealed Z2 to my shelf one day though. That game has some meaning for me, you know? I realize that was a yes or no kind of question but instead you get a dissertation damn what am i even talking about talking zelda 2 makes me use punctuation and the shift key and everything what the hell
