  1. I collect for Pal N64. I’ve seen these operation cards included in 8 of the titles compared with the 10 in the OP. Hey You Pikachu was never released in Pal form. So it seems like Glover is the unique one with it being the only game with world-wide release, but only has operation card existing in NTSC US form.
  2. It can also be from small insects nibbling on the box. But it could be from a combination of different reasons and not just one sole reason (eg. smoke, moisture, water damage, friction rub etc.)

What makes you think this t-shirt came from a show? Nice historical memento!
  4. Very impressive gaming setup! Thanks for sharing the backdrop and pics!
  5. @T-Pac since you’ve already done the drawings on this thread, it might save you some time by reviewing some of the games that’s associated with the pics. You only then have to focus on doing the reviews only. Just a suggestion.
  6. Inktober, heck yeah! This is like the antidote to all the WATA-infested-discussion threads! I’ll try and contribute something by the end of the month.

The best joke is when I don’t know whether to cringe or to giggle! (that was my bad joke for the day)
  8. I played a Castlevania on PS2 with its 3D venture and couldn’t get into it. So I completely ignored playing the 2 versions on N64. The game mechanics coupled with the console limitations in the early 3D era isn’t quite the right match I feel.
  9. Yes, I think I stuffed up, mixing some of the posts I read previously. Either way, my sentiments remain the same: genuinely appreciative when seeing something truly rare come up on this forum, and I have no doubts that WATA/HA were the instigators of people having a greater diversion of opinions on the “worth” of a game. TLDR: - sentimental worth - priceless - objective worth - who the heck really knows?
  10. There is yellowing at the bottom surface, right corner. If it’s under the seal then that could be a sign it was a re-glue from when a seal had peeled off slightly at the folds. If it’s over the seal then it could be from a previous store sticker or from other sticky items rubbed against it. Either way, that’s a significant downer to the value of a sealed game. Overall I think it looks like a legit seal, with a question mark of a possible reseal at the bottom right corner. I don’t really follow market trends of UK DS games but I would say this one is closer to 50-100 GBP than 500-600 GBP. You could put up a BIN/best offer listing and see the offers.
  11. I think mentioning the “worth” and WATA is what’s causing the reactionary comments. WATA’s done a good job of raising the popularity of games, but also in the process have caused a bigger discrepancy in perspectives in the “worth” of a game. My take on your usage of the word is on how much getting it meant to you as a collector, rather than the monetary gain in the foreseeable future. Just next time, be careful when you say “WATA”, it truly has a polarising effect on this forum!
  12. Was it a give-away from McDonalds? And now I’m hungry.

Yes, if you’re doing quick, snappy reviews, then it’s likely best to do different titles, otherwise it might sound too similar overall and we also get to see new artwork this way!
  14. Oh yeah, it’s definitely real. But I would say thumb calluses are the more common sign, which is technically what I’ve got at the moment. It comes about from excessive friction forces so when you play games for too long or thumb pads on the analog sticks have been eroded. You don’t appreciate those thumb pads until the callus start to form!
  15. I honestly doubt many of us would have played enough games on both platforms to do a genuine comparison of the top 10 for each side. You would probably have to play around 20-30 of the top-rated titles to get a feel of the top 10 for the respective platforms. That’s a lot of gaming hours to be had! Personally, I played a lot more of the PS1 but I definitely could say I’ve played enough of the N64 to appreciate its qualities. I would say the top 10 for the PS1 is not necessarily better than the N64, but definitely a lot more variety. The PS1 had the advantage of more memory space and so RPGs and action games with more cut-scenes added a layer of immersion the N64 just couldn’t do. The PS1 also had the better 2D games by a mile with tons of great arcade shooters, platformers and fighting. On the flip side, the N64 kills it with the 3D platformer genre. Top 5 (based on personal experience) PS1 1. Castlevania Symphony 2. Street Fighter Alpha 2 3. Resident Evil 1/2 4. Einhander 5. FF VII N64 1. Mario 64 2. Zelda 64 3. Diddy Kong Racing 4. Mario Kart 64 5. Blast Corps
  16. I’ve been playing a bit more of Geometry Wars 2 lately, and that’s giving me a few things: - improved reaction time - improved patience with intermittent bursts of anger (when the game can cheat pretty badly) - thumb blisters The thumb blisters I’m blaming it on the half-eroded thumb grips on the X360 controller, and not my 1-2 hours of play sessions. Maybe it’s time I get a new controller?
  17. When it comes to being a collectible, no one has the right to own it unless a transaction occurs. There’s no need to find any solutions in my mind, other than to weed out the scams and the over-exaggerated price tags. Regarding your local take vs foreigners, yeah they might be disadvantaged with the bidding, but likely to be advantaged with the selling of their region-specific stuff.
  18. @DarkKobold congrats! I’ve never heard of the A’can system before but it’s always cool to read about a complete set with the final piece being something seemingly a grail. Just reading on some of the discussions on here, some perspective: - the market post-WATA has gone crazy, but I’d like to make a simple summary: - 4 figures spent, yeah, that still makes sense. - 6-7 figures spent => e-peen pride and/or market manipulation
  19. Congrats on the accomplishment! 30+ years to complete? That’s what you call “sticking to a plan”!
  20. Kudos @mideast! Love the work and amount of dedication! Just a thought, I think you’re gonna be busy on this topic as gaming has become mainstream since the 90s-2000s. Those artists/writers who grew up loving games, will likely to incorporate more gaming history into other media.
  21. I don’t remember any of the plot but do recall playing it for several hours in total and enjoyed it with the experience. Definitely worth a try if you own a DS. More recommended if you like problem solving with some humour in thrown in.
  22. You missed the dry humour. Let me use keywords: Heritage and the Auctions.

I personally think it depends on how similar the 2 versions of R Type are. If too similar, it might get a stale feel for the viewers. If there are noteworthy differences (eg. if one’s ridiculously good and the other shockingly bad), then it might be cool to do 2 versions consecutively. Probably won’t matter too much though whichever you choose.
  24. VGS wouldn’t have much to talk about in the collecting section if without the heritage and the auctions to discuss in recent years.
