  1. I actually did this the other day with my son. He has his own personal collection of games he's received as gifts or bought with his own money, but of course has the run of the collection if he really wants. That said, the idea of ownership does seem to make a difference for him. Case in point, I bought Super Smash Bros. Melee w/steelbook for everyone to play, but have come to find that I really don't like Smash Bros. games. I sold off the N64 and GC ones (still need to sell the Wii U Controller bundle edition), but I kept the Switch games since he's been playing it a ton. He did a bunch of nice things around here the other day, so I decided to give him the game for his personal collection and he WAS OVER THE MOON about this; again, it seems that there is something about being the owner of the game for him (maybe it's the idea of control, I don't know, because they can always play whatever they'd like around here). I think this is a great idea, Reed, and it's great that the kids are excited about it; win-win as far as I'm concerned. *** Funny aside, my daughter had some friends over last weekend (bunch of 9 year old girls), and she was showing them around the house. Now, I've trained the kids to respect the games and ask me for help opening boxed games, so when she got to touring the game room, I overheard my daughter say about CIB Hagane, "...and that one up there is worth, like, $500 and we would need gloves!", followed by one girl saying, "Your dad must be rich" and a bunch of 'oh's and ah's'; I was cracking up, I never told her anything like that
  2. Two packages showed up today, one from VGP, and the other from my sister-in-law in Toronto who picked up some games for me after I wired her the money. I dumped my GC Pikmin games in favour of just getting the pack on Switch, was finally able to get a copy of Celeste after missing several print runs and refusing to pay the high prices, and the one I've been getting hype for: Star Ocean - Second Story R! I started playing Wonder with the kids and we're having a riot with it, lol. My wife needed her some more Detective Pikachu, and I'm a sucker for Wario Ware games >_>. ...and as for the retro, I knocked off a few that have been eluding me for a while: - Batman: This one is in amazing shape and even has the Sunsoft reg. card which was a surprise. - Great Greed: It took being patient to finally find a complete copy of this at a good price; finding it in the wild was definitely unexpected, especially considering how difficult it is to find CIB Gameboy games anywehere but online (at least, if you're looking for anything other then the dozen or so games that always turn up). - Power Blade: This is so minty, it looks like it came out of the wrap! As it turns out, there was a collector in TO who would buy multiple copies of games when they would end up in the discount bins back in the day, would open one and keep the rest sealed. Recently, he passed away, and his children - not knowing what to do with all the old games - sold the collection to a store in which I'm pals with the owners; I opted to buy the open copy of Power Blade. ************************************************************************ And that's it for now, thanks for looking and good luck to all of you on the hunt!
  3. Just finished mine tonight. I was going to try using loop tools this year, but my daughter couldn't remember were she put my sculpting tools, so I had to do all of this with a steak knife; my hands are sore -_-
  4. Not going to cheat by looking it up, but the only one that comes to mind that I've read is The Outsiders; is that it? That was a GREAT book!
  5. Cancer...damn. Like Estil, I also remember her most from Step by Step. TGIF was great back then, with shows like that and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Boy Meets World, Family Matters, Dinosaurs, etc. Watching Three's Company reruns really takes me back though.
  6. I had to go to Toronto for a week, so I brought a few DS games with me to tackle some backlog challenge on the down-time, and finally - after 14 years - I beat Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. I'd kept putting it down over the years as other things would always come up, but it got to the point where my Mom beat it, and I'm like, "Really...even Mom beat me to it...? -_-". Wonderful game, great puzzles; I love these game I also finally got around to playing Dawn of Sorrow which was great! My wife and I had watched the latest season of Castlevania when it dropped, so I was in the mood for a Castlevania but decided to continue trying to knock off ones I hadn't played/beaten yet. I accidentally got the worst ending, so I went back and figured out how to get the good one It's only two more off the list, so it's going to be a tight race to the end of the year at this point o_o.
  7. I finally got my US box yesterday, and this was a big one as I completed some lists which is a relief. I finally decided to finish up my NA PS1 collection (I only had 3 left on my list), so I managed to find great deals on minty copies of Guilty Gear and DQVII! Aside from that, I gave my 360 away to my sister (big Gears fan) and read that Binary Domain isn't on the backwards compatible list, so I picked up a PS3 copy along with the Japanese pre-order bonus headset. This game is FANTASTIC, so if you've been sleeping on Binary Domain, give it a shot; great story, great game-play, classic Sega arcade-style fun! ...and Clock Tower was the last one. I decided to get a 'NOS' ASCII Grip (only $7!) and Playstation mouse to go with it for the best experience. That Grip is awesome, btw! I finally secured Mario Party 2, and fully complete copies of SMB and SMB2; with these gets, I'm done with both N64 and Gamcube! I also found amazing deals for fully complete copies of Tetris Attack and Boxxle II, the latter of which really surprised me; another two off the Gameboy 'to get' list I love the Simulation Series by Koei, so I was really happy to - finally, after years of being patient - get a fully complete copy of Genghis Khan II for $50. The S.O.S was a big get for me, fully complete and at a reasonable price. I've found that I really like the Human Entertainment catalogue, so I'm really looking forward to putting the time into this one! Last but not least, I finally - after a lot of searching - managed to get Winter Heat! Decathlete is AWESOME, and I've heard and read that the follow-up, Winter Heat, is stellar. This was the last NA Saturn game I was after, so a very exciting moment for me. And, I managed to score the other of the two games I wanted that started me on my Japanese Saturn journey last year: Blast Wind. I managed to get this fully complete from a guy in Quebec, so I didn't have to order this one from Japan for a change. Super excited to finally land Blast WInd ************************************* And that's it for me for a bit on the retro side. I got notice of an LRG shipment that's on it's way, but I'm going to take a bit of a break. Thanks for looking, and I hope you all find what you're looking for!
  8. Two different orders showed up yesterday just in time for the weekend, one from VGP and the other from Japan! I've been really intrigued by the new features added to Pikmin 4, so I'm eager to dive in, but when I realized that Blasphemous II was coming, I was elated! I backed the original, love that game (still need to beat it, stuck on a boss near the end -_-) so a sequel had me over the moon. I managed to get a Starfield controller through VGP, and I've been patiently waiting for Fires of Rubicon to arrive (held up by pre-orders)...man, I can't wait to play some Armored Core this weekend... Then, from Japan, I finally scored a complete Sengoku Blade at the price I wanted to pay, and the same for Metal Black. I was also able to get a copy of MSH vs. SF RAM pack for cheeeeeaaaaaap (with some box wear, but didn't care considering the price), and Jim from Mad Panic Gaming sent me a complete copy of Final Fight Revenge which was a complete surprise! Jim also sent me a copy of Hyper Duel!!! This was one of the two I most wanted when I started on this Saturn import journey, so this one is huge for me. Sadly, it's not complete, so now comes the long process of keeping an eye out for an obi and reg. card (hit me up if you have one or the other to sell, pls!) The last one I managed to get was a complete copy of Zanac X Zanac! I'm a huge Compile fan, so this one was a special get for me. Only two more games to go, and I'm done with PS1 ************************************************************************************************************************************* Thanks for looking folks, and good luck in finding what you're looking for!
  9. In my pursuit to put together a replica cross section of a store in my game room, this would be a dream find to me; getting a couple of those to put on slat wall hooks...awwww yeahhhhh!
  10. My methodology is: Scenario 1 - What game(s) make(s) you feel some kind of way? What can you see yourself playing over and over? I think of my top 5-10 games, and price doesn't matter because they are the ones I feel passionately about. If I was asked, it's what I'd suggest. I'm nobody's keeper when it comes to individuals' finances, so if they want to get in in 2023, I have to assume they are prepared. I don't bother with 'systems that have a low entry point', because that's just getting things for the sake of getting things; $1000 spent on a bunch of stuff to fill a shelf that you don't really feel any particular way about vs. that same money spent on a handful of titles that get played and cared for...well, it just seems like the way to go for me. Scenario 2 - I'd follow the advice I'd give in scenario 1, because, knowing me, I wouldn't have given up my favourite games because I wanted to, but because I had to. So if I was not in a good place financially and found my way back to stability, I'd buy what I love and leave it at that.
  11. Hi folks, just modern stuff lately (the retro stuff should be here over the course of the next two weeks), but a few things have shown up in the last week or so: I wanted the watch to use, so this edition has been pretty neat. Haven't had much time with the game so far, but interested to see where it goes in-between working on some backlog challenge games. Good 'ol Limited Run...only a took a year for this to arrive, lol. Funnily enough, I never saw the Shredder Playmates action figure in stores to buy, so I had to trade with another kid for the one I have. Pretty cool then that this edition comes with a Playmates Shredder! And of course, there had to be a couple STGs and a run-and-gun to round out the gets ********************************************************************************************* Happy hunting folks!
  12. I was hype for months leading up to release, went to the midnight launch...I was all in. Set pieces, music and atmosphere were all memorable, everything else was a disappointment: - The combat was interesting but ideas not completely thought through made it a throwaway experience. - The story was told in such a way as to be unbelievably obtuse and occasionally breaks it's own rules. - Speaking of breaking it's own rules, the card game is infuriating, especially considering the concept would have made for an amazing card game like Gwent from The Witcher. - The characters are absolutely insufferable, and their teen stupidity and - often - idiotic worries (like, does this guy like me?) during points of crisis made for a game that made me dislike everyone except Zell who felt like an honest portrayal of who he was supposed to be. The bones of a good to great game are there...the bones of a great story are there too, but there are too many misses here for it to be considered worthy of the name, especially when sandwiched between two amazing entries in 7 and 9. To be honest, this is the game that comes to mind when I think of Square's tonal shift in culture and story telling and - in my mind - marked the beginning of the end of it's golden run. While there has been the odd release since that has been memorable, Square's never seemed quite the same and is a company that I find is largely not for me anymore (and really doesn't gear what it makes towards people like me and what I care about in a game). This started the trend of me buying titles based on the company's pedigree while continually being disappointed and thinking, "Maybe the next one will be great like they used to be..." Square seems too focused on nailing a specif aesthetic and trying to tell stories in as obtuse a fashion as possible. To my mind, the hubris that this attempt at playing 'I'm the smartest one in the room' shows with their story composition and delivery is very tiresome. In any case, I got games like Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, FF Tactics, and Live A Live out of them (to name but a few), so FF8 - and much of what's come out since - being throwaway for me is no big deal in the grander scheme of things,
  13. Closest to 100 without going over. Man, lazy summer vacation mornings watching Price is Right takes me back...what a legend.
  14. Objective Answer: I think the Wii's legacy will be one of breathing life back into Nintendo after 3 commercial failures, stopping the bleeding and restoring confidence in the company while proving that they could still march to the beat of their own drum and be successful doing so in an industry that was skewing in a different direction. Me Answer: I remember the Wii as being the Nintendo system that frustrated me the most. I hated being forced to use motion control - whether it be to control a game proper, or little gimmicky things tacked on - and so I wanted to enjoy the handful of games that spoke to me but always had the problem where I'd get discouraged from playing before even popping in a disc because I just didn't want to deal with the controls. I know I'm oversimplifying it, but I quickly came to have a negative association when thinking of playing anything on the Wii, so I mostly played other things. Flash forward a decade + later, and the 56 games I have just sit there - half of which are still sealed - and I find myself thinking more and more about selling them all and being done with it. I'm currently caught in that 'rock and a hard place' spot of wanting to keep the games as most are trapped on that console (thinking I may come around), and saying to myself, 'Who are you kidding? You could be playing Saturn, or SNES, or Switch..." etc. So I guess - in the end - the Wii's legacy is, for me, one of 'Couldn't be bothered'.
  15. I've always thought CIB meant 'Complete-in-Box', but I always add '...with all the inserts' since complete means different things to different people. I do spell it out "C-I-B" though, like "N-E-S" or "S-N-E-S"...
  16. Hi folks, just in today from the US and from Japan, some sweet, sweet games showed up! I managed to score a gorgeous copy of Acrobat Mission, so with that, I only have one more SFC title I'm after. I was watching a Shmup Junkie episode recently that went through SNES/SFC shooters and realized I hadn't heard about this one. It's looks fairly rudimentary, but I'm down with that Other than that, it took a surprisingly long time to come across a minty copy of Boktai 3 and at open auction (so for a good price), but patience won the day as I came across this copy, so now I've got the whole set (along with Lunar Knights). With these PCEngine CD titles, I'm down to three left on my list which is exciting! Avenger is new, but it was cheap so I decided to spend a few extra dollars to not have to deal with damage. I can finally play R-Type in full, and I'm a sucker for getting all the Dariuses (?) on everything @_@ With complete copies of Gun Frontier and Wonder 3, I now only need Image Fight/X-Multiply to finish the Arcade Gears set on Saturn, and am getting fairly close to being done with my Saturn collecting. I'm really intrigued by the stuff in Wonder 3, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go on the weekend! Lastly, this batch of things is kind of different. Chris over at CGQ+ has a series he's a couple dozen episodes into called 'Weekend Rental' that I've really been vibing with, and for 3 weeks in a row, he went through RC de Go with a NeGcon, then played Kaze no NOTAM while drinking some barley tea (I love iced barley tea!), followed the next week by Rambo III. I've been rocking with Chris for since we met as members of the N-G.com forum 12 years ago before he decided to start a Youtube channel and website, and we have similar tastes in a lot of things, and in these cases, I really resonated with these games. The cool things is that I likely never would have heard of Kaze no NOTAM, and I've long since put the blinders on when I see that Akklaim logo, so I wouldn't have realized that RC de Go! is a really cool looking Taito game. I'd seen Rambo III before, but ironically, it was on a CGQ magazine read-through in which Chris talked about it and showed footage. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to digging into all 3 of these...and drinking some barley tea So that's it for now folks. Thanks for looking /reading, and I hope you all find what you're looking for!
  17. Oh man, I want to get a Play Date so badly, it looks great, and the games all look like so much fun! I just got an email talking about a new season of games and there's a shoot 'em up...and it looks sick!!! One of these days...one of the days... I hope it's as awesome for you as I imagine that little system is
  18. Xenogears. I've always wondered - even after reading Perfect Works - what an episode 6 would have looked like and how much further Takahashi-san would have explored Gnostic teachings and what other philosophers he would have drawn inspiration from. Would it have delved further into the higher dimensions? ...what could have been :I
  19. Glad I could help in even some small way I agree, completing 1-3 will be difficult; that's endgame territory for me, trying to get all the pieces for games not fully complete.
  20. Yep, C-CAP-DMG-USA-1 fro the reg card, DMG-USA-1 for the consumer booklet. The 'WHOA!' insert is GP-DMG-USA-1
  21. Sure thing Here's the GQ2. Interesting that the one with your copy is one of the folded registration cards. ...and here's MM5. I checked the others and they are missing the ad inserts and any registration cards with the exception of MM4 which I do have the reg card for (CAP-DMG-USA). Hope it helps
  22. Hi Netto, I have a fully complete GQ2, and the reg card is a -3 and I have the same box code that Code Monkey showed. Let me know if you'd like a photo of the whole thing and I can do that for you :). I'll check the five Mega Man GB games as well, but I know 100% that MM5 is fully complete and can post that too for reference if you need.
  23. Oh wow, you left TO! For sure, next time the fam and I cross the bridge, we can try to meet up
  24. Aw, that is really nice to hear I really vibe with the same kind of stuff as Chris; that Kaze no NOTAM weekend rental video he did a few weeks ago was my favourite to date, but that chill vibe isn't everyone's cup of tea. *************************************************************************************** As far as some art goes, here are some goofy doodles I did in MS Paint for no particular reason:
  25. You've got dope stuff, Gloves! Sweet collections come in all shapes and sizes. Btw, welcome to the Space Mega Force club
