  1. I noticed console pricing while at MGC, not because I was/am in the market, but because I got what I wanted when the DS and 3DS were current and that was the end of thinking about prices for me where those systems were concerned. I bought a Pikachu 'new 3DS' (the one that looks like a sketch of Pikachu) for my wife that she never opened which has been sitting here at the house, and to see the prices on some of this LE hardware was surprising to say the least. I use my Fire Emblem Fates 3DS on the regular and tend to get comments when I'm out and about somewhere playing 3DS while waiting for an appointment or the like. Perhaps people just feel like the hardware and games are more accessible, so if enough people think it all at once, the prices jump? I have also heard a lot of chatter, like 'get in now before pricing goes crazy', so again, if enough people do that - and have been feeling priced out of other libraries they enjoy - perhaps that's the reason o_0?
  2. Last night, I just got back from a road trip with the family to Toronto, then Milwaukee for MGC, then back to TO for a few days before finally returning home (that was a LOT of driving @_@). While we were gone, a package showed up for a pre-order that I'd placed, a deal I've been working on since January came to fruition in TO, and we got a few things while at MGC The NEOSD PRO I ordered finally showed (a day after we left, so I haven't been able to try it yet), but the construction in the house continues and the game room will be moving, so I'll just wait until the work is done, the room is moved and all the cleanup is done. Aside from that, I picked up Astra Superstars for less than the going rate for a fully complete copy on Yahoo Japan from the Retro Game Bros. in TO. It was good to see the brothers again, and they've got something else set aside for me for another time I finally found a copy of Ghost in the Shell on PS1 while at MGC, and it was the only copy I saw (and I looked for hours). It's pristine and has the reg card, and I talked the seller down on price so I was over the moon to get this I then got a complete Vectrex, multi-cart, dust cover, and complete set of repro overlays from the fellow who created the multi-cart for a fantastic price. He, my wife and I talked for a while and I learned a lot about the Vectrex. I'd fallen in love with the console and games while at PRGE 2022, and this was the main thing I was looking for at MGC. My wife and I have been jamming on this since the show Now this was a LONG time coming! As a massive Mega Man fan, I've wanted to get a complete copy of MM on GG for years, but the timing never worked out, but mostly - and for a long time - finding one CIB just never happened. Luckily - at MGC - I found a fellow with this copy and willing to take trades, so I swapped my copy of Cotton for Turbo Duo (since I'd always wanted the Japanese version instead and got it a few months back) and a few Virtual Boy games I still had kicking around for it! This, GitS and the Vectrex package were the only games I got at the show, but boy, are these gets awesome to me!!! Lastly, when we got back to TO, I took a day to visit my friend Kamal from We Got Gamez who hooked a brotha up!!! Aero Fighters was the last truly elusive SNES game on my list (only 2 NA, 1 JP, and 1 PAL game to go and I am done!) and my love of shoot 'em ups was the driving force here. For 6 hours, Kamal and I just caught up and talked life, which added a great memory and story to this particular game for me; it made this one special. ************************************************* And that's it! I'm probably going to take a small collecting hiatus while I take care of house things. I'm almost done anyway, but adulting bekons (>_< bleh) so I'm going to be more tortoise than hare to the collection finish line. Oh! I forgot to take a pic of it (because I'm in the middle of reading it, lol), but a big shout out to @LaC for his AMAZING World of Nintendo setup at MGC. Seriously, it was the highlight of the weekend for me, and I finally got a copy of his book which is absolutely brilliant! In the future, I look forward to trying to put together even a fraction of what Lac has with his displays Best of luck on the hunt, everyone!
  3. Maybe I'll see you around at MGC! My wife and I are road-tripping down and will be there all weekend Good luck on your hunt and I hope you have an awesome time at the show.
  4. I've got a 4-slot 'Big Red' MVS cab with kits and an AES w/ROM cart, and I would say that an AES + Terraonion ROM cart (same as an Everdrive, really) is far more practical and economical. With a little patience and consistent looking, you can get a Japanese AES (they are region free) for a couple to few hundred (depending on if you want loose or complete and since the USD is outpacing the Yen by quite a bit), and the ROM cart for a few hundred more (I had pre-ordered mine through Stone Age Gamer); get the HD Retrovision component cables, and you're off to the races Whatever route you choose to go - if you decide to pursue this - I'm sure you'll have a ton of fun with the library. I love the Neo...there's just some experiences you can't get anywhere else
  5. I'd like to request a Casio Loopy fullset badge please. It will probably be the only fullset that I ever go for/have been interested in and I finally made it!
  6. It's been a minute, but lots going on at the house, I've lost the game room to using it for storage while construction continues. Some things did come in though, and I finally found a copy of the game that's given me the slip for 8 years and has led to my first (and probably will be 'only' full set). I got Pretty Princess at my daughter's request, this new Harvest Moon looks more like a return to form and not like the terrible games they've been pumping out for the last 10 years. I realized - after the fact - that I have a first print of Cave Story + which is why I bought this one by accident (the covers are different :/). Elderand just looked interesting... I couldn't resist Persona or that Ace Attorney Trilogy, Mario vs DK is always a blast with clever puzzle gameplay, and everything I've seen and heard about Drainus has led me to believe this game will be fire! I am a fiend for the tactical games, so I just had to get the Monarch version of UO from VGP. I've been playing a TON of Picross (1 through 9 by Jupiter on Switch) lately, and realized I never got Mario Super Picross and managed to get a complete copy for $3. My wife also participated in a KS campaign for that book on the right which I'm looking forward to thumbing through. I recently realized that I never got Yoshi's Cookie for SNES and felt compelled to rectify that. I don't care what people say, I'm a fan of that game. I got a smoking deal on a fully complete Xexyz, so I was finally able to knock that off the list. And, I got the last Arcade Gears release in the set on Saturn in Image Fight & X-Multiply...i just had to be patient to find one fully complete and at a good price. Finally, the one that's eluded me for nearly a decade, Chakra-kun's Charm Paradise! I've literally checked Mercari and Yahoo Japan daily since my journey for the Loopy began. I found a copy within a set once, but this went up and the seller had 2 old stock that they staggered to auction. The second copy went for over $1,000, so I'm glad I muscled my way to getting the first copy while there was no sale data to base the price off of. With this, I now have the full set for Casio Loopy!!! Can we get a Loopy badge >_>...? Anyway, that's pretty well going go be it for a few weeks, but we'll see what things look like around here after MGC in Milwaukee. Thanks all!
  7. Great hypothetical! - Terranigma (SNES): I want to finish the trilogy, and I keep reading that this game is one of the greats. - Rolan's Curse II (GB): Amazing looking RPG; I'm in! - Gun-Nac (NES): STG, must have... - Sapphire (PCE Duo): STG, must have... - Shinrei Jusatsushi Tarōmaru (Saturn): Everything I've seen of this game looks awesome! ...I'll get there eventually.
  8. Mega Man, easy. Original, X, Zero, racing, Battle & Fighters, EXE., Legends...covers all the bases for me. Considering how much I run it back with Mega Man games every year, this scenario wouldn't be much of a leap for me.
  9. Pitfall! was the first game I played on the 2600 and I hated it. My play time with the game was full of "But I got the vine!!!" energy and drove me nuts. I went with a 3 here
  10. Just got 2 boxes from Japan today, one from Limited Run, and one from VGP, and I asked my Mom to come to town with her pick-up for a pick up. Last of Us II is in my top 5, so I didn't need much reason to pick up the PS5 remaster (and to play through the game again). I've been eagerly awaiting Another Code, and while I don't really do the amiibo anymore, my love for the Xeno series compelled me to get this set. Then, a Limited Run order came through! More DonPachi is always a great thing, and I'm very intrigued by Rendering Ranger. I'm VERY selective about these new production runs, and really keep it to stuff not released in NA, but this just spoke to me. Aside from those - and I know it's not a game - but being a Xenogears super-fan, I had to share my excitement for the latest in the Xenogears Bring Arts line. Bart is coming soon which I am super stoked about! I finally found a sweet deal on a complete Kyuukyoku Tiger II Plus (took a stab in the dark as it was neither obvious nor indicated that it was complete) and PD which looks really interesting! This Rockman X4 Special Limited Pack marks is right up there amongst my greatest finds and I am thrilled to have this set!!! Besides Xenogears, I'm also a Mega Man super-fan, and have I have incredibly fond and cherished memories of X4...a game I play through every year. I completed the tri-fecta with Espgaluda, and decided to finally get a Japanese PS2 (SCPH-700xx model) to play my NTSC-J PS1/PS2 games on (not really into the modding thing). I'm going to play the heck out of Sengoku Basara X Finally, I was thinking about getting a second Trinitron if I could find one, and I found someone local giving away this 36' Trinitron with the stand for free! The nice thing - that was lucky for me - was that I wasn't the first to go for it, but the first couple of people were rude to the couple, so they decided to give it to me which was very kind of them This tv weighs a ridiculous amount, and this isn't where it's going to stay. We are having work done at the house, and within the next two months, the game room will be moving to a master bedroom; I put the tv here so that moving it later will be kept to a minimum. This was one heck of a week! I hope you all keep finding what you're looking for
  11. If you do, let me know and I'll buy and play it
  12. Hi all! Starting off 2024 kinda quiet, and working on something huge for April besides holding some money back for MGC. A few things did show up in the last few days though... Bomb Rush Cyberfunk seemed like a cool game to get some of that JGR feel, and my wife has been playing the shit out of Baldur's Gate 3 on her Steam Deck, so she wanted to make sure we got the physical for PS5 so we could play co-op. The real win for me was finally getting Dokapon on GBA, a game I've been trying to get complete at a reasonable price for about 7 years now! And for Christmas, my wife got me a Play Date!!! I'm absolutely over the moon to have one of these and have been playing it a little every day and having a blast. I love this thing, and the games are fantastic! Gun Trails (shoot 'em up) is AMAZING, and not something I would have thought possible here, but, yeah, there are just a ton of fun and interesting games. Highly, HIGHLY recommended for portable fans All the best, folks!
  13. I got 2 packages in on Friday and have spent the weekend (or what little free time I've had, really) messing around with the Analogue Duo. The other package was of the last games for this year that I bought from Japan. This is my first time buying a Famicom game, and I've waited patiently to find the right copy at the right price list November 2022, so after a year, I finally found a complete copy at the right price. Very excited to have and play this one! I've heard, read and seen nothing but great things! Speaking of games that have been a 'long time coming', I landed a near mint copy of the Groove on Fight RAM cart bundle for a song, and finally picked up Skullfang Kuuga. Then, I was finally able to get another couple of games that I've been patient on since Nov. '22 Just a few more: I got a Japanese copy of Cotton because I bought the North American version by accident last year because I conflated the two from a price perspective, lol. In what ended up being a complete surprise, I got a new copy of Trizeal...not by design, but because the price was right so I figured "why not?". This was also my last Dreamcast game, so now I'm done with the DC! And, because I seem to have become a fan of Human's catalogue...and because I LOVE Twin Peaks, I just had to get Mizzurna Falls; this will probably be about the only time I play a game with a translation guide just so that I can experience the game on original hardware. ***************************************************************************************************************************** That's a wrap on imports for me in 2023! I hope you all find what you're looking for
  14. For decades, I would see a video, read a magazine, hear from a friend about titles that I either hadn't heard of or had seen in some small way but dismissed out of hand for one perceived reason or another. Flash forward to the last two years, and I locked in on what was left: I took stock of what I really wanted vs. what was a passing fancy, went over all the consoles and complete games lists, watched video, read articles, etc., and dialed it in. It came to about 190-ish to get and I've been chipping away. Well...I've always been chipping away, but I've been far more deliberate these last couple of years with my timing and planning on areas of focus at any given time, particularly as the list has gotten smaller and what's left has a lot more to consider in terms of trying to find truly complete copies (NES and Game Boy games for example) and pricing that's high enough that I have to plan more than I've had to up to this point. All that to say that, yes, the list is 'locked in'. I've often thought of the quote, "And Alexander wept, seeing as he had no more worlds to conquer." since I'm getting so close, although in this case, I will be very happy to see it done; it's been a wonderful journey, but I'm certainly ready to put down the walking stick and simply enjoy the memories of this odyssey (and diving into all the games, of course!) as it were. T-Pac, if you are still in the discovery phase, that's a fun place to be (admittedly, I do miss that aspect). I used to love the hunt when I lived in a bigger market, but with my only outlet being online now and currency and shipping playing a huge role that add extra hurdles, there's no thrill there any longer. In any case, hopefully you've been enjoying your journey with gaming; despite the ups and downs, I sure have, but it's certainly nice to have a finish line in sight too
  15. Just wondering, would you be able to post a list of what games need to be posted? Perhaps a pinned list that the strike-through function could be used on as titles are added? Thank you for doing this! I will be referring back here on the regular for sure
  16. Not so much odd (the item) as was the reason: Remember Consumers Distributors catalogues? When the tv tuner came out for the Game Gear, I had one and a GG circled for Christmas that year and kept the catalogue under my pillow for all of November and December. I used to build the craziest snow forts because my house was on a cul-de-sac and in Québec, so we'd get a ridiculous amount of snow build up and the plows drove it all up onto our yard. I'd have full tunnel systems, different 'rooms', pit traps (I was always at war with the neighbourhood kids because they assumed I didn't speak French and I was so incensed, I refused to correct the bigots *those particular kids and all their parents were awful*), ramparts, you name it. This particular year, I felt I had to defend my ice castle because they kept trying to sabotage my work, which is why I wanted the GG and tv tuner; I planned to camp out every night in my snow suit and stay awake watching tv on the GG. Of course, my folks were not going to get me a GG, let alone a tv tuner, lol. Stupid reason, stupid war with the French kids (half my family is French, so they should have put the prejudice aside and I should have made more of an effort to deprogram that way of thinking), but great memories overall
  17. Although there have been a significant number of issues reported so far with the limited release units, I really just like going original and working with retro pc hardware is within my wheelhouse
  18. I only have 71 titles to go across 11 consoles not counting eventually getting an X68000 setup or a Vectex w/multicart, so no particular focus other than the specific titles themselves. Once I'm done with the games, there are a couple of kiosks and a few more signs I would like to get, but then I'm done done. 25 of those 71 are NA Game Boy games which continues to be rather difficult, and the one that's been like finding a diamond in a trash bin is Chikara-kun on the Casio Loopy...I've only come across it twice in the last 6 years and it got away the first time while this latest one is bundled with the complete set of Loopy games new on Mercari, but I'm not paying 3k when I have all the rest. Patience and persistence, patience and persistence...
  19. i just got box 1 of 2 from Japan today which has some really exciting stuff (well, I think it's exciting, lol) in there: I decided to finish up my Dreamcast collection before year's end (two more titles on the way), and - of course - it's all about STGs I've also been making a push to finish up my PC Engine collection, and finding a complete God Panic has taken me years so I'm over the moon that I was finally able to land a copy! But, it's not all STGs today: I finally snagged a complete Princess Crown that was at a price I was willing to pay, and same with Wolf Fang SS (boy, I can't wait to play that one!). The big one this time, though, was Gaia Seed. I had to shell out for this one, but getting it complete at a decent price just took time and patience; only one more PS1 STG to go I love it when this stuff shows up before the weekend, and with nothing really going on this weekend other than basketball, I'm all set (along with all the other games I'm playing atm). Have a great weekend folks, and I hope you all find what you're looking for!
  20. I've noticed that shaming has become a thing in the hobby. People I know, respect, and am friends with often feel the need for a disclaimer and hushed tones when talking about a new retro game they got and want to talk about because of the invariable, "You're an idiot for spending 'x' on 'y'". I never feel the least bit of shame about having things of high value, partly because I don't buy with that in mind, and partly because I worked for every dollar's worth; quite frankly, the journey and the game time by myself or with family is the value. "But Ren, you post regularly in the 'What's new in your collection' thread? Aren't you just a show off trying pump yourself up from reactions to your gets?", to which I say, "No, it's all about sharing the journey with like minded folks". I love sharing with everyone and seeing what all of you are doing on your respective journeys; whether it be $10 or $1000, a dope game is a dope game. Do I need to get an original copy of a game? No, that's a choice I've made and I have my reasons which I've written about here and there over the years, so the hyper-abridged version of that explanation is that I put a lot of value in the complete experience of a physical game which all goes back to the car ride home with a new NES game, pouring over the back of the box, reading the manual cover to cover, etc. So with that said, I've always been of a mind that I work hard for what I have and what I have, I'm passionate about and I will never feel shame for following that passion. The value has been in the journey, the relationships I've made in this space while on that journey, and playing games: Laughing with my daughter while playing World of Illusion together on Genesis, turning the trash talk on my son in Super Mario World and laughing until we would tear up, watching my brother lose his mind trying to beat Hagane, my wife heckling me mercilessly for getting me with the 'Ring Out' in Virtua Fighter or dunking on me in NBA JAM, wowing the fam when I speed run Mega Man X without looking at the tv...to me this is what matters.
  21. 3 packages showed up today, one from LR, one from VGP, and the last from my box in the US. I ordered the LR stuff so long ago, I'd forgotten all about them. I'm a sucker for the shadow boxes >_>...and the STGs, lol. I'm really curious about this new version of Super Mario RPG, but I'll have to save that one for later...too many other games on the go right now. I finally found a fully complete Firepower 2000, and for a good price. Midnight Resistance and Q Billion go to show that patience pays off because I got each one for a song after biding my time over the past 2 years. 2 Genesis and 4 SNES (and 1 SFC) games to go before I'm done with those systems! Good look out there, everyone!
  22. I understand the appeal, much more so than the pursuit of full sets; I mean, the artwork was meant to set apart from the crowd on a store shelf, so the display aspect is completely understandable. That's about as far as my 'getting it' goes, though. The value component doesn't resonate with me. The evaluation to then entomb a game in an acrylic case doesn't resonate with me; putting a game in a protective case that you can access at any point, though, does (and still displays great). I have a lot of sealed games, but that's just because I haven't gotten to those games yet. Perhaps because I will never sell, I don't vibe with the valuations of seals and such. I don't post in these threads since I neither want to come off as being critical of anyone's decisions about what collecting games means to them, nor do I have anything to add to the conversation on the 'pro' side, but it's a slow night in the NBA right now so this seemed like as good a thread as any to post in while the Bucks and Wizards are in halftime
  23. Ooh, I like games like this: Astro Boy: Omega Factor (GBA) Biomotor Unitron (NGPC) Caricature Artist (Casio Loopy) Drone Tactics (NDS) El-Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (PS3) Fossil Fighters: Frontier (3DS) Granada (Genesis) Harvest Moon 3 (GBC) In The Hunt (Saturn) Jet Grind Radio (DC) Keio Flying Squadron (Sega CD) L-Dis (PCE CD) Mega Man: Powered Up (PSP) Nexzr (PCE CD) Outrun: Coast 2 Coast (XBOX) Phantasy Star (Master System) QBillion (GB) Rage of the Dragons (MVS) Saint Sword (Genesis) Trauma Centre: New Blood (Wii) Ultimate Muscle the Kinnikuman Legacy: Legends vs. New Generation (GC) Vanguard Bandits (PS1) Willow (NES) Xenogears (PS1) ***My favourite :)*** Yo-Kai Watch 3 (3DS) Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars (GBA)
  24. I'm bringing the Mega Man X Collection on PS2 (invert my buster and jump buttons with no option to change = no GC version). I could play the X series forever, and I already like creating my own challenges when I play them to keep things interesting.
