  1. I think I recognize it, it's from a game that shifts the character one pixel to the right and then back again, every 4 frames.
  2. I played brass in high school, but I didn't like only being able to play 1 note at a time. That drew me to instruments that are more suited for solo play, like guitar, banjo, piano, accordion, bagpipes, uke, and a uke-like thing called a cavaquinho. Nothing beats playing in a band though. Throwing cover bands together in college was some of the most fun I've ever had.
  3. Yep, it's definitely part of the GBA fullset, but not part of, say, a "GBA games-only fullset" or however you define what you are collecting. Those 5 Infogenius titles for GB don't say "game pak" on them, they say "source pak," whatever that means. They're not expensive or hard to find, so it doesn't really come up whether or not they count. But you can bet that if one or two of them went for $100+, there would be collectors going for "game-only fullsets." And a couple of those GBA video carts are hard to find and relatively expensive. So I don't blame anyone for not wanting them, especially since they're atrocious to actually try and watch. But if you say you own a GBA fullset, the first question you'll hear is going to be "even the video carts?" then possibly "even the e-reader stuff?" The KJV and NIV bible games on GB actually do have some playable games on the cart, as well as the full text of the bible. Maybe another thing to consider is the Singer Sewing Machine Software cart for GBC. Does anyone NOT include that in a GBC fullset? It definitely gets mentioned that way ("I have every GBC game, including the Sewing Machine cart")
  4. I've been trying to collect Europe-exclusive releases for GB, with a strong de-emphasis on "re-sprited" games that actually did have a US release under a different name. It's hard enough to chase down the true exclusives, so I won't worry about the re-sprites. And then I saw this: Come on. I was born in the 80's and I'm not going to buy this game? Should be arriving in the mail within a few days.
  5. Finished a loop of Breakthru! I can take a picture but it's just a shot of level 1 again.
  6. Huh. You know, I had done the sliding puzzle and the bowling game on my actual GB, then entered the passcodes on an emulator on my computer to do the challenges, assuming that would "count." Then I got the other 3 in the emulator. When I got the Chiseler passcode, which was the last of the 5, it stopped on Catch the Fool twice and Upsy Daisy twice before finally landing on Chiseler. I'll have to beat those 2 on the emulator to see if something different happens. Luckily those are the 2 easiest ones. I'll also go ahead and push through Chiseler to see if something happens. And you're right about Serpent. That must have been one of the games I fired up real fast to get a quick idea of how to beat it. Shrug. Can't wait for the GB contest!
  7. Ok, Hunchback of Notre Dame is done. I've now gotten a Funfair passcode from all 5 minigames, and beaten the corresponding challenges in the Funfair (all within the same play session.) I didn't see any special ending screen or anything, so unless the manual says otherwise, I'm calling this one beaten. Overall it's really not a bad game. Not "phoned in" like I expected from a Disney movie game. Chiseler even has its own standalone password system, and Catch the Fool plays like one of the modern Game and Watch games from G&W Gallery. (I mean that in a good way heh) The Funfair is an interesting meta-game. I beat Casper for the first time last week (it was already beaten for the thread) which attempts a similar mini-game collection idea. Night and day. I never want to play Casper again, while I'd be fine coming back to Hunchback. It's not 100% polished, but some parts are really pretty good, like the fluid animations in Catch the Fool. Thanks for the manual info Red.
  8. Seems fishy. I think it's jone. **VOTE: jonebone
  9. I don't like they they're apparently ok with taking people's money and valuable games, while knowing full well that they can't deliver on their posted turnaround times. Just toss those games in the pile and watch the bottom line go up. Better hope their facility doesn't catch fire or get broken into.
  10. Yeah, we just don't list them all out because it would make the post twice as big, and I believe most folks don't have a lot of JPN games, and many JPN games are somewhat inaccessible to the average non-Japanese speaker. But I'll add a line for any JPN game that gets beaten. Update on Hunchback: I got a passcode for Djali Bowling (verrrry easy to get all strikes) and did a challenge where I was supposed to get 32 points in 6 frames. I failed, tried again, and now it was 35 points in 6 frames. Failed again, then succeeded at getting 32. Got the same Congratulations screen as Picture Puzzle. I selected NO to doing another challenge, and I got a screen that said "You have completed 1 of 3 challenges." Ok, so then I typed in my Picture Puzzle passcode, completed that challenge again, selected NO, then got "You have completed 1 of 2 challenges." Soo, does each game have its own set of challenges to complete? Perhaps the different numbers of points in Djali Bowling all need to be completed? Still messing about. While playing Chiseler, I uncovered a wheel icon that took me straight to the Funfair, and it gave me a challenge for Upsy Daisy. I won the challenge and it gave me the same old Congratulations screen, then put me back to my Chiseler game. So I don't think that had anything to do with my overall Funfair progress. I'm enjoying the game though, more depth than I expected. I got really far in Catch the Fool but not far enough, died because of RNG. Edit: ok, I went into Picture Puzzle again and solved the challenge on the first try. The exact verbiage was "You have completed 1 challenge out of 1." So it actually looks more like a reminder of how many tries it took to do the challenge. I did the Catch the Fool challenge 5 times in a row without failing, and I got "You have completed 5 challenges out of 5."
  11. Great! Glad to see everyone finding their way over.
  12. Welcome! Yes, we do track Japanese games, we just don't keep a full list posted. They were missing for a while but now they're at the very bottom of the big table. If a Japanese game has a USA or PAL-region release, then that's where it gets counted. Sorry it's all scrunched together. The visuals of the thread are improving, but they're not quite where I want them yet.
  13. I say you have to play Zelda and Mario. Great experiences that any Switch owner should have. Worth getting into the complexity. Indies that I enjoyed include Yoku's Island Express, Golf Story, and Celeste. I've heard tons of good things about Hollow Knight, which I understand to be a Metroidvania, but I don't know anything else about it.
  14. I kinda regret selling stuff when I was a kid, but I had to do it to afford other games. Nowadays I can afford them better, even if they're more expensive now. No real ragerts. But I do regret selling my childhood EarthBound and Harvest Moon as an adult. I would have kept them if they weren't worth three digits each. They haven't even jumped in price since I sold them; the money isn't the regret. But I don't want to shell out for them now, unless they're the copies I had as a kid.
  15. Is it cheating if you use a cheat device or save-state to practice a certain level or boss, so that you're good at it when you get there in a legitimate run?
  16. Got my Bill and Ted in the mail. Slightly different chip between the 2, but same chip number. In the 3rd pic you can see the stamped 05 on the error cart, and 22 on the non-error. These pics would be better if my error variant were in better condition; the one I just got is very clean. (and if the lighting were any good at all.) Might be worth finding an upgrade just for the sake of a good comparison picture.
  17. Good idea, looks like he gives the table its own post with nothing else in it. That would be helpful. I'll retool things tomorrow.
  18. I love those "beat every game" threads. On NA I had dreams of starting up a thread for every Nintendo console, because there are worthwhile games on all of them, and discovering the more fringe titles is what makes those threads fun. Honestly I think there should be one for any console that has people wanting to play the games. There's no reason we shouldn't have a dozen of these threads. I don't want to "hog" them but I'll fire up a thread for any console if there's interest. (and no volunteer to run it) With no yearly rollovers.
  19. I gave my reviews for these back on NA, but Megalit is a new one. It's a great game, and I enjoyed it very much for the first 3 quarters or so. Then I sort of hit a wall where each puzzle takes me lots of tries, even when I take the time to really stare and figure it out. There's a time limit, and a limited number of tries before you're dead. There are 5 puzzles between each password, and it's very tedious to have to repeat puzzles over and over before getting another chance to tackle hard ones again. I get that it's part of the game to have to learn those puzzles well enough to get through them over and over like that, but even if you have them memorized, they can take several minutes to finish, and it gets easy to make a careless mistake while trying to go as fast as possible. So... good game, but I have a password for it that I just don't have the motivation to enter. Hopefully someday I'll reach the end.
  20. Ah ok, this is good info. I thought I had gotten pretty far in Catch the Fool, and I quit because it didn't seem like anything was changing. Helps to have the actual baselines for each game. I'm going to try a few of these. Edit: I managed to finish a Picture Puzzle in under 20 seconds, which is tough when the tiles move so slowly, lol. It indeed gave me a passcode, I entered it into the funfair, and it "spun the wheel of chance" that landed on Picture Puzzle. I had to do a puzzle in under 35 seconds. I did it, it gave me a congratulations screen, and asked if I wanted to challenge again. I said yes and the same wheel spin landed on Picture Puzzle again, I assume it's all for show. I'll try and get some more passwords to see if anything changes.
  21. Noice. Give me a minute to get LastCat added to the leaderboard, it's being squirrelly. I miss the "Source" function from NA.
  22. Yeah man, I'd love to beat the record, though my count is 217 games in 2016. I saved all the threads from previous years, so I can take a gander. I found koifish on PlanetVB, so maybe he'll show up. I don't know about beatthegameboy, but hopefully he'll notice that everyone has moved over here. It's a real struggle getting the first post updated. I get an error most of the time. I might try whittling the table down a bit, maybe it'll work better with less text.
  23. Nice, I see that Hybrid already has this on his site. I have a flipped Jeep Jamboree cart, but it's not as cool because nobody knows that game lol.
