acromite53 | 338
Yo what are these marks? They are evenly spaced and present in the same formation on Disc 1&2 of "Thousand Arms".
Bubbapauls | 251
Has it been buffed? I’ve heard of weird things happening when a PS1 disc has been buffed to far.

I intend to sell this and haven't tested it yet. Maybe resurfacing it with a professional machine would remove the marks.

I’m about 90% sure that the disc has been buffed to far so more buffing won’t really do you any good. I’d test it and see if it works before trying anything else. Tyree_Cooper | 793
I have similar spots, maybe smaller, on some of my PS2 games (silver DVD discs, and a few gold DVD discs too). Mine are definitely not buffed or resurfaced or even cleaned, in fact they look pretty much new. I'm thinking it could be some kind of issue with time or storage in a humid location? I tried cleaning just some of those dots and they did seem to go away, at least partially. Seems this is not rotting, or maybe a beginning of rotting from the outside layer? I have no idea. Hope someone can give mor insight.
acromite53 | 338
Thanks y'all. It's weird. You can see these same marks on this person's Ebay listing for the same game. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Thousand-Arms-Sony-PlayStation-1-PS1-Complete-with-stickers-and-hologram-card/323959098896?epid=1241&hash=item4b6d778e10:g:7Y0AAOSwA3ddszeR:sc:USPSPriority!75002!US!-
Bubbapauls | 251
@acromite53 I looked at a few on eBay and a lot of them had those circles. I’m not sure what’s going on but it seems to be common with that game. Maybe it some kind of off gassing putting a film on the disc. I’ve had discs that had a film on them that was easily cleaned off, but it wasn’t circles.
austin532 | 467
I've opened plenty of sealed PS1 games and they hard that so it must be something from the factory.

MasonSushi | 16
Looks like it was laid down on something for a long period of time... Also it could have been at the Manufacturer Plant and the machine was damaged causing a batch of them to come off the presses like that...Interesting... Tanooki | 4,971
I've never had that specific game, but I have had those circles on it and they're definitely not from some wonky pay a store to resurface your stuff system. It has to be some odd accident/failure at the plant, or much like a chemical yellow in parts SNES, something that popped up through time.
Philosoraptor | 473
I just checked my copy of Thousand Arms, which has never been buffed. My disc 1 and 2 have those spots as well. zeldaboy | 41
I have come across many of these. Definitely not from being buffed. Just seems to be either a factory defect or artifact from production that affects nothing. No biggie.
Yelir | 11
I thought it was a humidity issue too but not entirely sure. I have experienced it probably a few dozen times with PS1 (black disc) and PS2 (blue disc) copies.
enix2093 | 8
https://imgur.com/a/Vg77Svs These appear on two of my Atlus games as well: Tactics Ogre and Hoshigami. I have a second copy of Hoshigami without the "orbs" that has a darker label side print as well. Although I don't see any obvious signs, its possible a professional grade resurfacer was used on the second copy which maybe removed them, or this could be a later print where they fixed it. So far, it looks like this might very well be specific to Atlus games.
Hammerfestus | 3,964
It’s something I’ve encountered in the past too. Can’t remember where specifically. Will have to check my Atlus to see.
austin532 | 467
Pretty sure it's just from the spindles and whatnot from the factory. Those would disappear if it was resurfaced.
Nes Freak | 585
its normal its like that from the factory. use some pledge to help lighten them up
spacepup | 2,435 Administrator ·
This reminds me of a really strange Japanese PS2 disc I discovered not too long ago. It was brand new and sealed, no visible signs of heat damage or mold. Upon opening, everything was clean, smelled fine, etc. Then I look at the disc, and eek!

LastCat | 246
Buffed disc but those marks are nasty tho but if you guys say it could be a factory error than that could also make sense. I've seen some weird patterns because of buffed discs. Edited June 22, 2021 by LastCat
austin532 | 467
It's not from a buffed disc.
