Gameboy Color Secret Screens 🤫

***Edit: I’ll waste no more time uploading these phots.. apparently someone has already documented all of these screens in high definition here: http://www.vgmuseum.com/features/warn/

If you pop a Gameboy Color exclusive game into a regular gameboy, you get a screen that tells you it only plays on Gameboy color. Some of these screens are simply text, others actually have some artwork. I figured I wouldn’t be able to upload them all, so maybe we can work together to find out what some of the more interesting ones are?

Sorry, this is now collecting canon and you’ll have to get them all (with every variant)

My eyelid literally twitched trying to consider it.

But what does that make the SNES with the Super Game Boy, the Gamecube with the Game Boy Player.......or Pokemon Stadium for the n64

I'd imagine most people are also not aware that if you play Conker's Pocket Tales on an original game boy you get quite a radically altered version of the game. I remember playing through both versions back when it came out and slightly preferred the non-color version though they both had pros and cons if I recall. I never thought about why, but I guess it was technically a GBC exclusive game that GB couldn't run (maybe the first one?) but they also included a GB game on the same cart. I wonder if there were any other carts that were like that or if Conker was the only one.

I'm fine collecting the black hybrids. But Gloves, you're wrong.  SNES/GameCube are not now GB games... it makes Game Boy games official SNES and GameCube games!

Eat it you SNES/GC collectors.  I've I have to collect 10,000 more carts, so do you! Mwaaaahaaahaahaaaa!

EDIT

And you poor DS collectors.  I'll not laugh at you.  You really do have it the worst with, what, 25+ years of gaming to collect.

Game Boy games are DS games. So, 31 years.

You can't even say something like "They removed the Game Boy slot in the DSi and onwards" because then you have to admit that PS5 and Xbox Series games aren't PS5 and Xbox Series games since they have models without disc slots.....or that Wii Ware games aren't Wii games because they removed internet connectivity on the Wii Mini.

I find that story about Conkers more interesting than the rest of this outside of some of the prettier screen captures.  I would have to wonder what the motivation was there basically hiding a game.  It reminds me how they kind of hid a real SNES game within the Space Invaders cart that only the SGB could toggle.

I disagree -- Nintendo themselves made clear the DS was a "separate product line" from GBA....though they most likely were using it to CYA just in case the DS didn't work out.  The DS is just much too different from GB/GBC/GBA to not be any less than the start of a whole new product line.  If you guys get what I mean by that.

As for the WiiWare games, well TBH unless it's on an actual disc (or at least had a disc version) then it's not a real Wii game.

I was being cheeky really.

I personally even separate DSi, and New 3DS games from their respective lists.

I even go as far as calling Aladdin Deck Enhancer games, eReader, and Sega CD32X games their own platform.

As far as I’m concerned there exists the following Nintendo handheld generations:

1. Game & Watch

2. Game Boy

3. Game Boy Color

4. Virtual Boy

5. Game Boy Advance

6. Pokemon Mini

7. Nintendo eReader

8. Nintendo DS

9. Nintendo DSi

10. Nintendo 3DS

11. New Nintendo 3DS

12. Nintendo Switch

There may be some stuff I’m missing, like I know as a fact that “Pokemon Pikachu” and it’s sequel aren’t part of the “Pokemon Mini” line and are actually dedicated handhelds instead of cartridge based games, but then again so are the Game & Watch games....also, I’m not sure if Virtual Boy and Switch are closer related to their own category instead of being considered handhelds.

Either way, it boils down to the fact that I separate the gameboy and DS lines.
