There's an undeniably campy charm to the film and it has some incredibly memorable moments. Still, I find that it's one of those movies that I enjoy in bits and pieces, rather than trying to watch the whole deal from beginning to end.

6/10

Just now, JamesRobot said:

I tend to agree.  And this is one of the exceptions along with Beetlejuice, Batman, and Peewee.

Ed Wood, Batman Returns and Pee Wee's Big Adventure are the Burton movies that I like.

Mars Attacks also seems pretty polarizing.

I think if you like Ed Wood and Pee Wee, Mars Attacks should definitely have some appeal to you. It might be a little too stupid/campy for some people, but it's not obnoxious like many of his later movies.

I also love Big Fish, it's probably the last movie he made that wasn't awful.

Burton definitely lost me beginning with Sleepy Hollow. I like most of his early theatrical work but the quality of his directorship dropped sharply after the mid-90's.

I'm quite fond of Pee-Wee, Beetlejuice, Batman 1 & 2, Scissorhands and Ed Wood...and I'll give a lesser nod to Mars Attacks. Even his contributions to Nightmare Before Christmas are still worth revisiting. The guy certainly used to have a unique and active imagination, that's for sure, and I admire that.
