Hardest game you've beaten?

Is that the thread where he bitches about Rat Race and how unfair it is?

That was a different thread, but yeah, any game where he couldn't get past a level in a few tries he would say "this game sucks" or is "unfair."

Not because of his dogshit gaming skills, of course. 😛

This reminds me of the time I was arguing with someone on Gamefaqs who said that very hard games back in the day were a scam because players didn't get to see all the content. I told him something along lines that it's not the game's fault that you suck, and he raged and tried to get me banned.

Yeah. PatrickM was really easy to troll.

He had another thread where he was arguing about save states. I forget the details, but he was mad that people weren't accepting that him beating a game using them was just as impressive as someone beating a game not using them. At one point he was trying to argue like ten different discussions in that thread with ten other people. It was insane.

Zelda II.

I hesitate because I'm not good at hard games, at all. I've never even gotten to higher levels of Ghosts n Goblins, Battletoads, Contra, etc. But that's the one game that a lot of people say is hard, but I have no trouble with, at least until Shadow Link. Some parts are challenging, but I can breeze through Death Mountain, and I really just jam on the whole game. I don't need to farm extra lives, I've beaten it on one life.

Guess I'm traditional because I still don't consider youtube a source immediately to play some bs game of semantics.

When I say that I finished, beat, or saw the end of the game doesn't mean I finished what I wanted, beat the thing to death metaphorically speaking, nor did I drool over a longplay or a friend showing off next to me seeing the end.

It's all interchangeable.  I sat my ass down, picked up a controller, started from the title, and I saw the ending and some credits too after kicking the last bosses ass.

If some game got some side quests fine, doesn't mean it needs to done to finish, beat or see the end of the game.

Same with, extortionate added DLC/IAP of any type (including free), loot crate extras, 5 different stupid endings if you did better or worse, or any other moving the goal posts for someone to play some superiority complex antics about it.

When it's done (normal ending of the game) it's done, everything else is fluff, extra, gravy, something if you have time or so adore the game you can go back to do more instead of just an instant-re-run of it all over again.

we always said "beat the game", meaning saw the credits, when i was a kid, so that's the terminology i still use. i lean towards "completed" meaning "completely finished" it, but i don't feel strongly enough to complain if someone reverses the terms. honestly, i'd probably use "100%ed" if i want to show off that i've completely annihilated the game (not something i tend to do).

Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania are not harder than Adventure Island. AI should be in top 20 at least. And Cuphead at #19? Maybe if you're going for all S and P rank on expert difficulty. Just beating the game on normal isn't all that hard.

Battletoads, Ghosts n Goblins, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Super R Type, this dumb shmup called Sinistron, Japanese Mario 2 with no warps, a really tedious tank sim, Cliffhanger on Sega CD, in Sonic 06 I got all S Rank on all of Shadows levels, Art of Fighting arcade, KOF 2002 arcade. Sinistron was probably the most frustrating, not surprisingly its a Japanese game that was localized with the normal mode harder than the original hard mode.
