Adding Speech Back To TRS2 Nintendo Radarscope Boardsets
SNESNESCUBE64 replied to SNESNESCUBE64's topic in Modder's Shop
I'm hopefully finishing up the software soon. However, I decided to make a couple minor changes to the hardware: Removed the debug port Removed individual pullup resistors Removed DTR capacitor on reset line (unecessary without debug port) Replaced resistor array with two extra resistors to account for the removed individual pullup resistors. I did an interest check on another forum. If you want one of these speech boards let me know. I am doing one run of these and that's it. -
Nintendo (Gremlin) Space Firebird - Sprite Issues
SNESNESCUBE64 posted a blog entry in SNESNESCUBE64's repair logs
On my bench (technically the trashcan next to my Helifire table) was Nintendo Space Firebird. This one was specifically the Gremlin license but they are the same game for the most part. The problem with this one is that some sprites are garbled or missing. This ended up being one of the quickest repairs I have done. It probably took longer to hook up the board. The problem chip ended up being the second chip I did a spot check on: the 74ls00 at 3D. Probing the chip, I noticed that it had good inputs. However, it had floating outputs: Stacking a new chip on it fixed my graphics. That was ultimately the problematic chip. Pulling it and testing it on my chipmaster shower it to be bad. Fully replacing the chip solved my graphics issue. -
It was an incredible disappointment watching the lions this past sunday. Great example of just giving away a game. I suppose there's always next year. Maybe this offseason we can boost our defense.

That's rad. I have a few more flyers. I got one for puzzle bobble 2 and then one for VS Duck Hunt. I wanna get more but I don't have the room right now to display them. It's a plan for the house when I get there. Actually, for cocktail tables it would be kinda cool to have them underneath the glass. I have all this unused room to put something like that there. Problem is that Pre-Donkey Kong Nintendo stuff isn't the easiest to find for a good price.

How big is your collection in 2024??
SNESNESCUBE64 replied to CT's topic in General Collecting Discussion
I have been slowly pairing down my game collection for a little while now to focus on arcade stuff. In terms of arcade cabinets, I have 20 now. One is a playchoice, I think I have 12 carts for that. I have tons of boards and monitors these days but I don't count that really. If you wanna see what I have, my VAPS is up to date (except for congorilla, I forgot to add that): https://www.arcade-museum.com/members/member_detail.php?member_id=486462 Otherwise, I have about 20 games for each nintendo console except for NES which is closer to 80ish these days. -
Championship pub is a really cool game. We had one in the shop a couple years ago. The little mini games like the jump rope thing were really cool. Fighting the drunk was also really cool. We had to replace the drunk as the mount for it had broken. But we used it for the christmas tournament trophy. From a repair standpoint that one was a pain, but it is such a fun game that I don't care.

What mappers are you looking for? I've done a couple NES and one famicom design. I have designs for CNROM and UNROM. Just let me know requirements. I do a good deal of PCB design and fab work. Here's the one that I did custom for a famicom project (not final).

I still want to make a tiny mod board for this. I just can't be bothered to disassemble my Nintendo. I've never been much of a fan of snipping pin 4. I think the only thing that's stopping me from doing this to my Nintendo permanently is that I sometimes make homebrew carts and need to make sure that I programmed the CIC correctly.

Collect - retail display/sign Not sure if the yoshi topsy turvy display qualifies for the display. If not maybe my ESRB ratings sign I got from a gamestore that closed

To kinda copy what T-Pac did, these were my most listened to songs of 2023 (one per artist*). They aren't necessarily my favorite by the artist, but they are up there. The sky is burning - Primal Fear We are Real - Helloween Lust for Life (best hits version) - Gamma Ray Not today - HammerFall Master of the pendulum - Avantasia Enemies of Fun - Kai Hansen A threat from beyond the shadows - Dragonland Megatropolis 2.0 - Iron Savior Tyranny - Firewind Deliver us from Evil - Blind Gaurdian *Kai Hansen appears as a vocalist in three of the songs, it is a bit of a gray area but he's my favorite musician so I am just gonna leave it.

Wii U kiosk Monitor - Audio Issues
SNESNESCUBE64 commented on SNESNESCUBE64's blog entry in SNESNESCUBE64's repair logs
I'm sorry, I am not offering repair services at this time. I don't have bandwidth due to my day job and the current projects I have on my plate. I also don't have the kiosk anymore. So I wouldn't be able to just be sent the boards. -

Yes if you aren't careful you can damage the board when replacing the capacitors. The boards are kinda cheap. If you are comfortable soldering then it should be fairly straightforward. Otherwise it might be a bit tough. -
FO: Timewalk Stadium events brand new! Price lowered!
SNESNESCUBE64 replied to Johnnyboy113's topic in Selling
Maybe I am missing something here, but what makes the timewalk stuff special? Did they have some kinda deal with Bandai? Seems like a normal repro to me. -

The new hardware came in early! I assembled it last night and it seems to be working exactly as it should. I'm very happy with how it turned out. -
General Pinball Repair Logs (Updated 12/24/23)
SNESNESCUBE64 commented on SNESNESCUBE64's blog entry in SNESNESCUBE64's repair logs
It's a common issue with solidstate pins in general. It's important that your EOS's are properly aligned. Fuses popping is how they protect the coils and the flipper driver board. -
Adding Speech Back To TRS2 Nintendo Radarscope Boardsets

I spent all day yesterday messing around with QBoxPro to try and generate clearer voice samples. It's very neat old software designed to generates LPC byte streams for speech chips such as the TMS5220 (which is what I am emulating) with weird quirks but seems to work ok. I've re-recorded most of the voice lines using my voice and it sounds alright so far. I might play around with it more. -
That's good to hear, big fan of test points. I was more speaking of software debugging though. Will this be able to debug via serial or USB?

The thing about new hardware is that you are already limiting your base immediately. I love to see it but am pretty skeptical. Do you have prototype hardware already? Showing a shell for another device does not enstil confidence in a product. We saw that with the coleco chameleon several years ago. I wouldn't even bother asking for money until that is achieved. What kind of hardware are you targeting? Some ARM-Based machine using off the shelf parts or are you doing your own architecture from scratch? Developers care a lot of specs because they need to know what they are working with. How are you going to be handling compiling? Are you making your own or are using something like GCC or LLVM? Are you developing your own C libraries to handle graphics and other custom hardware? Are you making a whole environment meant for development on your platform? What is debugging going to be like? Will there be a debugging environment or an emulator to try things out? What is the lifecycle of this project expected to be like? What is support for this new hardware going to be like? I know it's a hard question to answer, but how long do you plan on supporting the product? Let me be honest. As much as I'd like to see it. I think that for small time development, the ship has sailed for new hardware. You are going to struggle to get developers to come to your platform. From a programmer's financial perspective, it's hard to justify development of a game that has a userbase of 170 that MIGHT buy it. People looking to develop for new hardware are going to target PC as it has a much bigger target audiences and more ways to get it to them. A lot of NES homebrewers enjoy the strict limitations and idea of programming for such old hardware. I'm just not sure newer hardware will catch on with that community. I'd try doing a kickstarter if you are looking for backing. I think VGS is way too small to hit your target backing.

My favorite was finding a rare Nintendo Head On N arcade board on yahoo auctions japan. That was a fun project.
