  1. Lemmings is done. I used to love The Incredible Machine from Sierra / Dynamix on the PC, but this game is really a chore compared to that. Even when you know what to do, it's more of a battle against the NES controller and wonky interface. After 10 levels of the game, it's like "I get it, enough already." Man, if the Incredible Machine were ported to SNES back in the day, that would have rocked ass.
  2. I got through the first 25 easily, and started to get bored with the next group, so I'm going to skip to Mayhem and just brute force to the end. I actually got through the first 25 before realizing the "strategy" of pausing the game and moving your cursor instead of just white knuckling it
  3. Mordack can appear randomly when you're doing the wand transfer thing. He can be a real dick the whole time you're in his castle, so you have to be careful about saving yourself into a reset. It's a shame because KQV is such a good PC game, and this port was a total fiasco. Even though it makes you lose, I love eating the meat right in front of the starving bird just to f with him.
  4. The winning conditions guide says to start at the highest level, but I think that's not going to go well.
  5. I've never played Lemmings on the NES, so I'm going to give it a spin. Giving a heads up since it's going to be a slog based on the pain points
  6. Yo Uncharted Waters is done. GrizzJizz69 has saved the princess and become King of Portugal. It took a lot longer than last time. Anyway, I'm going to wait a few weeks before starting another Koei game. This is a good game to zone out, smoke some cigars, and listen to the Eric the Midget Red Carpet Saga on loop while you're slowly sailing around the world over and over.
  7. I'm going to start on Uncharted Waters, just in case anyone else is thinking about doing it. I'll bow out if anyone else wants to do some Koei games
  8. It took a little bit of time to get back into the rhythm of the game, but Prince of Persia is done
  9. Didn't snap a pic in time, but I beat Caesar's Palace with the red car ending
  10. Gemfire is done Will start another Koei game in a day or two.
  11. Yo I beat al Unser's Turbo Racing. Super easy if you play as Al, and not too bad even if you don't Gemfire time! Edit: Wow just noticed this is a 10 point game! I suck at racing games and can blow through it in 1/2 hour. (Something to keep in mind for next year
  12. I'm not claiming any Koei games, but I am good for beating them all this year. I'm going to take a crack at Gemfire today.
  13. We need the guy who claimed to have beaten all 4 Bases Loaded and like 10 other long and difficult games within a week again!
  14. Turkey will never be particularly friendly to you, due to historical reasons. You may even need to bribe to get into their ports later in the game if you need to go there for a fetch quest (saving before entering the port is a good idea since you can also get arrested).
  15. What country is attacking you? You put yourself into a tough bind by making friends with the Turks. If you can escape out of the Mediterranean and lie low and invest in other ports for a while, things should calm down. But it sounds like you'll just have to arm up and blast out of the situation for the time being. Money's never really an issue in the game after you get some coral, so you can always disarm after the crisis is over.
  16. I'll be returning to run the Koei library at highest difficulty next year, in addition to whatever else I get around to. Seems like the contest should just focus on the core NTSC library next year since it hasn't been beaten in several years now.
  17. Romance of the Three Kingdoms, for sure, if you really do research on the time periods and generals in the games.
  18. Of all the Koei games left, Gemfire is by far the easiest. Give it a try man! I may have some time to do some games around the Thanksgiving holiday. I moved this year and haven't really unpacked anything in the last 10 months.
  19. Once in a while, and sometimes on different covers than their centerfold issue.
  20. Twice, actually, and she was on the December 1984 cover. Her Three's Company alumna / replacement, Priscilla Barnes, is the March 1976 Penthouse Pet of the Month. She posed under a pseudonym well before she was widely famous. I have that issue somewhere in my "archives."
  21. George Eliot rules. I saw a BBC miniseries of it too. Middlemarch is probably her best work, although Silas Marner is up there. Sister Carrie and An American Tragedy are great turn of the century classics.
  22. Those jumps in level 2 when the boats are firing rockets at you is a beast. Well done!
  23. At least once a day. I listen to several ancient history and Byzantine history podcasts, and am rereading the Aeneid at the moment. Even though he's pre-Empire, Caesar's influence still resonates to this day. Diocletian and Constantine I are right up there too in terms of impact on European history up until the Renaissance.
  24. Wow, now I feel older than usual. Sorry to hear the news, but you really have to drink like a champ to get Wernicke's encephalopathy. Alcoholism is no joke, and it sounds like he suffered from it for quite a long time.
