  1. Apparently Estil just learned that capitalism exists in college sports.
  2. Eclipse livecam. Almost total!
  3. Somewhat better than its reputation, but still not up to the lightning in a bottle of the original. I saw it somewhat recently (like maybe 8-10 years ago), and now that I'm older and better able to read people, I can tell that Bill Murray absolutely doesn't want to be in this movie. It really shows in his phoned in Venkman.
  4. Yes, but most happen over the ocean. Hitting land is a little more rare. Next one is 2026, over Greenland, Iceland (including Reykjavik), and Spain, just north of Madrid, though by that time it'll be near sunset, so you need to be away from the hills and such. 2027 will have one over northern Africa, though Gibraltar should also see it. Central Alaska will see one in 2033, and @Reed Rothchild should see one in 2044 (along with the deckles, I mean, Calgarians.) 2045 will have one that'll cross the US again. This time in August, which should see sunny skies. Assuming by then the climate hasn't turned complete overcast 24/7/365 and asshole clouds are the norm.
  5. Hey, back then a wasted weekend was a crime against humanity.
  6. It's called the Paul IV hall or the audience hall in Vatican City. It's actually a relatively new building (compared to the centuries old ones next to it in the Vatican.) Though some of the other "thrones" of the pope do nothing to dispel the final boss image. The top one is the cathedra in St. John Lateran, which is the official cathedral seat of the pope. It's actually not in the Vatican, but nearby in Rome itself. The bottom one is the seat in St. Peter's Basillca, which isn't actually a cathedral, but is the church that is actually in the Vatican. The weird history of the Papal States and modern Rome has stuff scattered all over.
  7. Come on, my conspiracy theories are a lot more plausible. They involve wizards.
  8. Yeah, laugh now, but soon you'll realize those things are sentient. And assholes.
  9. He's got some other crazy vids, too, like his SFC/SNES turned Playstation. I like how he doesn't even try to neatly disassemble the circuit boards, but just rips them apart.
  10. I understand the temperature drops, too. When I saw the annular eclipse, it definitely screwed with the colors of everything. Didn't notice any temperature change, but it was October in bumfuck Utah (actually, a nice little town called Richfield) and I forgot my jacket, so it was already cold. But seeing the ring of fire was awesome.
  11. You should still have a decent eclipse experience. If you can somehow make a trip to a totality area (that doesn't have asshole clouds), go for it, but if you can't, get some eclipse glasses (or rig up an eclipse box) and enjoy the show. If there's an eclipse event, I recommend going to it, as they're more fun in a crowd of people. I went to Utah and saw the annular eclipse back in October. That one was pretty damn cool. And back in 2017 a whole bunch of us at work gathered on our portico with glasses, boxes, and even things like colander spoons to see it. You could even see little crescent suns in the shadows of tree leaves.
  12. I think you hit on a lot of why the show went downhill (though that wasn't the only thing.) The original Homer was more a somewhat dim father, but still loved his family and tried to be a good dad. They made him progressively dumber, but you could still laugh at the antics. But jerkass Homer was a lot less likeable.
  13. Hey, she said she knew me! And her profile picture had her in lingerie! Are you saying that's MY fault?
  14. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/earthquake-taiwan-tsunami-warnings/ Hope @OptOut and @fcgamer are okay.
  15. Asshole clouds. I was planning on going to see it, but every place I could go that was reasonably priced was like, "Hyuck, overcast!"
  16. Everyone got their eclipse glasses? If not, there's still a little time. https://nso.edu/for-public/eclipse-map-2024/ Unfortunately, a lot of spots under totality are going to be facing overcast, but for those with clear or partly cloudy skies, it should be a good show.
  17. Yeah, different people will have different answers, but the consensus seems to be around 1998-2002 or so.
  18. Plot twist: Skinny's only seen episodes made after 2010.
  19. I'm pretty good at knowing things about copyright, so... Switzerland and Sweden are both signatories to the Berne Convention, as is the US (and most other countries), so they respect our copyright laws. Julian Assange wasn't doing copyright violations. The handful of countries that aren't Berne signatories are places like Western Sahara and Iraq. Not exactly great places to set up a server. Even Iran signed the Berne Convention.
  20. It was at its peak when Conan was writing for them. I could usually tell when he wrote a bit. I don't think I have seen a new episode all the way through since 2005 at the latest, and maybe even before that. If they do have a funny gag (like Bart and Lisa defending their cardboard fort from the UPS men), it'll end up on YouTube anyway and I'll see it there. Even that is like once every four or five years at best.
  21. Unfortunately they aren't very good at making legal arguments (part of my job has me monitor and sit in on the court cases, virtually.) Internet Archive shoots themselves in the foot a lot. Which is why their arguments are often losers. The other issue is that they just don't have the resources to fight a copyright fight long term, which they need to do but are not able to do so. If you're even using someone else's copyrighted material without permission, you have to be able to survive multiple lawsuits. I would not count on them sticking around long term.
  22. The only thing I can say is that if you're actually there in person it takes on a way different energy. I can see how watching videos of the live audience can seem lame, but that's not the same thing as being in the auditorium and feeling the excitement of being there. But I can respect enjoying the movie on its own merits. There's not much else like it out there.
  23. Right, that's the doctrine of first sale, which means that the author doesn't get further compensation when a book is sold used. However, copyright law allows the author and/or publisher to determine when a book goes in and out of print, and no further copies of the book may be made by anyone else whether it's in print or not (unless you want to get sued in federal court) until the book goes into the public domain. Then it can be copied without restriction. I mean, you can disagree with it, but that's what the law is now. edit: Plus, I don't think it would work to require it be in print for authors/publishers to keep their copyright. They'd just resort to things like how comic books do ashcan prints and stay within the letter of the law.
