  1. Waverace 64. Such a fun little racing title.
  2. Who, me? This is Kitty Cate
  3. I'm not sure it was intentional or not, but I about died reading this.
  4. A new *good* Golden Axe would amazing. I would like a rebooted Crazy Taxi too. Maybe have open world GTA style missions in addition to the arcade mode? I would so buy that.
  5. #5 Strapping Young Lad- Love? We were not going to see Zimmer's Hole and solo DT without finding Strapping Young Lad high on this list. This is the music I put on at work for people who are metalheads but stopped with radio bands. A long time ago when I traveled to see Devin play live, I went with a group of friends who were mostly there to see Between The Buried and Me. Nobody in that car had ever listened to SyL before! Well, I happened to have copy of Alien ripped to my old school ipod and played it for everyone so they had an idea of what to expect. Most of them broke in such a good way! Strapping Young Lad is so delicate and extreme at the same time. Every note is intentional and the grooves and beats provided by the amazing Gene Hoglan are listenable all by themselves.as far as the song goes, "Love?" Is where it's at! It's an extreme smash-up of metal and pop that to this day has never been done so well. To think that Devin wasn't the only opening band I went to see. There was a major Florida band that was touring to promote their reunion album...
  6. Is posting tacos I serve at work considered cheating? Naw, I'll make some tacos that I actually feed my kids later this month! On the left is a Cornflake breaded haddock taco. Lettuce, Pico, melted cheddar/jack cheese, both hard and soft shell using spicy crab dip as the glue. On the right is seasoned grilled Mahi Mahi tacos with shredded Napa cabbage, sliced avocado, habanero infused sour cream, diced red bell peppers and cilantro on grilled and buttered tortilla . The left is more new England pub food, and the right is more California Street food.
  7. I personally enjoy final bosses that have victory lap visual spectacle final forms. Or ways I can "skip" a final dungeon in RPGs because they tend to be more of a pain in the ass than fun. Moogle Charms in FF6 or Holy Bottles in Tales of... for example.
  8. #6 Megadeth- Holy Wars... The Punishment Due I find it remarkably difficult to write about a song so iconic. So I'm just going to tell yet again another story. As implied, I began my journey into metal as a bit of a hipster. Most of what I was listening to in high-school was of the more obscure variety. In a sense it was rather fun having a music collection chock full of bands nobody ever heard of, even among my metal friends. Then of course Guitar Hero 2 is released, which may be the best party game ever made up to that point. By the time me and my friends made it to the expert songs, I was forced to actually sit there and listen to some of the real classics of the genre. Holy Shit! "Hangar 18" was an amazing song! My world opened up and I needed this album. I couldn't shun the classics forever! I bought Rust in Peace within a few days and fired that mean son of a bitch up. Before I even made it to Hangar 18, I had to deal with Holy Wars. My face promptly melted. I was in love again. And then it was time for me to expand my horizons into some of most well known and iconic bands heavy metal had to offer...
  9. #7 Opeth- The Moor Opeth was one of my introductions to metal even if I did not know it yet. Some time ago, my sister had her napster playlist running with all the randomness she was into at the time. Lots of edgy punk, indy rock, Bob Dylan, everything. Than I overheard a song much unlike anything else that drew me in. The song had ended and I never figured out what it was. Months later I discovered Opeth while searching for that sound. I walked out of Newbury Comics with Last Fair Deal Gone Down and Still Life and my ears got their ass kicked. That slow build up in "the moor" that builds into the acoustic intro and then the main guitar melody was a gut punch I still feel to this day. I promptly listened to the rest of the album and fell in love. Still Life remains one of my favorites to this day! So much at the time that I went out and bought Opeth's entire library. When listening to Orchid, I finally heard that mystery song again from the napster playlist. It was "Forests of October". I had no idea what it was or who made it at the time. All I knew is that it was really good. So for that, I offer a bonus.
  10. #8 Arcturus- Kinetic This is one of those bands/projects that speaks for itself. Composed of some the biggest names in black metal, they make something that is, in my opinion, so much more. If atmospheric avant garde metal were such a thing, Arcturus would be carrying the banner. True, their early works were just more black metal. But showing themselves to be more than a short lived supergroup, they began to make some truly special music. It may be a bit of a surprise to some that I went with a song that was with Garm instead of Vortex, but Garm is no slouch. And it is the combination of Hellhammer and the keyboard player that is the driving force for what they do anyway. Arcturus is one of the most interesting listens around with Sham Mirrors and Sideshow Symphony being their best. Both albums are must listens for any fan of loud music out there.
  11. Nailed it! This was a weekend rental back in the day and I remember bulldozing straight through it. It was pretty fun though unspectacular. 6/10
  12. #9 Amorphis- Elegy To this day I'm unsure that I have heard a metal song convey so much emotion. Amorphis is a peculiar band that has gone through many iterations. It began as an old school death metal band before finding their sound by writing music to ancient Finnish poetry with a keyboard driven Doom Death hybrid that had never been done before with Tales of Thousand Lakes and Elegy. Then they abandoned that altogether going for some mediocre 90s hard rock like they were hoping for some serious international fame or something like that. They even released a God awful album through Virgin or all labels complete with CD copy protection to save us all from accidentally finding this hot garbage on napster. Then they hired a proper vocalist and returned to the sound that worked for them and have been making some great music since. While Elegy remains my favorite song and album of theirs, Queen of Time is also pretty great. So a bonus from their new era!
  13. @Renmauzo As long as you aren't buying things you can't afford, there's no need to ever feel shame. Many people just love to shame when they get all gel. I tune all of it out. We all need to have fun and focus on ourselves at points in life and those of us on VGS all share gaming in some capacity to satisfy that need.
  14. I always sell out when collecting stops being fun for me or I need the money. If I ever start a new hobby, I always make a point to sell pieces of the old hobby to fund the new one. The good thing about game collecting is that the items maintain their value, so it's a very self sustaining hobby if done carefully. Plus it's great eye candy for my living room in the meantime!
  15. #10 Children of Bodom- Silent Night Bodom Night First off in the top 10 we have a nostalgic pick. I dont consider this CoB's best song, but it still remains my favorite to this day. Much of the metal I had been listenening to and discovering at the point I found Children of Bodom had all been these over the top productions. You know, those 11 minute prog rocky feasts with multiple time signature changes and sounds like all a whole bunch of songs blended into one. Then I watched an early Youtube video that was going viral of a young kid covering this song on guitar. It was only 3 minutes long and it kicked my ass! Metal didn't need to be over the top with its songwriting to be good. Speed doesn't necessarily need to be a feature of the song. It can be a focus too. The simplicity within the speed of it was an inspiration for me to learn an instrument. It seemed fun to play. And it was. I learned this song surprisingly quick. Very simple lrlr double bass beat that carries almost the whole song. The main groove is super simple, and the fills are nothing to it if you can perform a double stroke. They are still doable if you can't, which I could not at the time. All in all I love this song.
  16. He was hiding in Pittsburg though. That's basically southern Canada!
  17. Couple pokemon card box sets as christmas gifts, and a couple random games across across a couple systems. Oh, and a Kaboom for 5200 cause the box art is so funny! Cross posted from another thread. Snuggled right alongside random other boxes I have.
  18. #11 Dream Theater- Learning to Live Dream Theater is a somewhat polarizing group in metal. I think it is widely agreed that individually, they are incredible at playing their instruments. After all, this was a bunch geeks at Berklee that formed the band. My opinion of them is that they are a group of collaborative artists capable of any sound, emotion, or feeling in their music. They can lay it gently, though they often lay it real thick. They can keep it simple, even though they keep things complex. Much like life, which is what "Learning to Live" is about. It's a song of perseverance, growth, and acceptance. It's what I play when life seems really tough. Oh, and Mike Portnoy is also solidly in my top 5 of metal drummers. After this we are into the top 10! I'm sure many can guess what bands will be featured given what hasn't been seen yet. Any takers?
  19. It was still there and wound up being only a couple bucks on a black friday sale. It's been on the shelf for close to 2 years since I started visiting the store but I finally gave it a new home. Cracks me up every time I look at it!
  20. I cant tell you how disappointed I was when Live Free or Die Hard had nothing to do with NH.
