  1. I don't see this as a difficult issue. I would bet once the server check gets reverse engineered, someone could manufacture a dongle for the network port that mimics a network and the psn servers for check in after a battery change.
  2. Yea, I agree, I just wonder how many patches will be lost to the ether. We probably won't really know until years from now.
  3. I didn't know about that site. I'll check it out!
  4. With the store closing, many are anticipating physical price increases, which makes sense. However, with the recent news about some games no longer being able to download patches, what does that mean for collecting PS3? Personally for me, I see people still dealing in physical from a collector or nostalgia perspective but for playing these games, downloading patches and iso's for hacked systems is the future of playing them. Thoughts? (Yes, I do see this as my moral excuse to download all the roms I want without owning a physical copy )
  5. I really want a series x. No rational reason, i just want it. Can't get one though.... so I'll be waiting until I can find one without stress tapping f5 ten million times....
  6. I tried that but didn't like how dark it made the picture. Was unplayable in my mind because I had one in high-school (I can remember how its supposed to look). I eventually got an OSSC with the original hidef pack. It looks great on my 4k now.
  7. I've been playing the ps4 medievil remake. Its simple and very Halloween for the little free time I have right now. Going to watch scary movies Halloween night with the wife though.
  8. I've been using it to play city skylines on my phone in bed and I love it. It's a cool service.
  9. That's an interesting thought exercise. On one hand, a large portion of buyers buy for nostalgia now, but in 30 years, that won't be the case for Nes or Genesis. It'll be more like atari. On the other hand, IPs that are still alive may still be collectable, in the way old comic books still remain collectable. So....who knows?
  10. I want both for no good reason. Launch titles look ok but nothing that is must play and I just can't justify the cost and stress of a pre order right now. So I'm trying to put it out of my mind. I'm playing witcher 3 right now, which no joke, will probably keep me busy through the end of November. I love hardware though, so I still really want them...
  11. I don't see an issue with investing. Not my purpose personally but at the same time, I could just download roms instead of buying cib genesis/ sega cd games. If you only care about playing, repros or roms on a flashcard are all you need. If you are still buying the original media, you're lying to yourself if you think you're only buying to play. I'm buying the original media because there is something tactile and enjoyable about getting my own copy of the rom for a flash cart. I also enjoy knowing my $80 lightening force won't lose value sitting on the shelf. Not investing, but it's close enough that I can't be a gate keeper and complain about the "investors".
  12. Ok, got my 3ds and played a couple games. Anything out there on how we're preserving game patches when Nintendo eventually abandons it? I know xbox 360 and ps3 have the updated files online for use with hacked systems. Anything similar for 3ds?
  13. This looks great. Not sure I like the n64 setup but thats definitely creative! You need to report back in a few months if you find it was a good or bad design choice.
  14. This thread finally got me to pull the trigger on a refurbished 3ds from Nintendo. Also ordered shovel knight, nes remix, and super Mario 3d land. I'm going to play this in bed and on lunchbreaks, casually collect because I'm trying to focus on other systems right now. I've got this thing about buying old hardware, i hate dealing with issues. So I want to snag a few in good shape before its too difficult. I've been thinking about the same thing with Vita even if I don't want to collect the games right now.
  15. Yea, their notification system is terrible. I'm glad I was able to snag some today, thanks to this forum.
  16. Finally! Glad I saw this. I've been regretting not grabbing these since I bought the mega sg.
  17. This game is great. I'm really enjoying it. The way the creature moves and eats people is super satisfying. The controls can be difficult towards the end. I might try my pro controller on the TV to see if that makes the end game any easier.
  18. If you can't plug and play a game system with a new TV, I consider it retro. All of the effort I've had to put into having an original xbox working on my 4k TV tells me its not a modern console. Component cables and an OSSC are pricey. Pound cable was a disappointment. The blacks were so bad in Halo I found it unplayable. Also, I was surprised by how bad these games look and play compared to modern 3d games. Not at all how I remember them from highschool. So they may be in a different category from 2d consoles, but they definitely are not modern.
  19. Probably 25% of my games. Usually, I can only make it through short modern games though. Anything super hard or super long, I don't have the time for.
  20. anyone else excited about this? I've been trying to save for a new toolbox...but that might have to wait so I can buy another toy.... Only downside is that it really adds up if you want everything for it. About $430.
