  1. I believe something like this is left entirely up to personal choice. In reality, nobody but you should care if you collected multiple versions of a game or not. If something makes a difference to you it matters. If it doesn't then it doesn't.
  2. Where is the option for emulation on PC? Ever since I got my gaming PC, I've just been playing everything on there with a PS5 controller. Except for that one time the power went out and I played on a backlight modded DMG.
  3. If it was me, I'd just hang on to both and just try to work more or take a break from buying game stuff for a while if I had to. Then I'd have no regrets.
  4. When I was a kid I bought Super Mario Bros. Deluxe thinking I could play it on my Super Game Boy because that had color. I was wrong. By the time I started saving money for the Game Boy Color, the Game Boy Advance was revealed so I just waited until that came out and bought it.
  5. I remember one NA member was basically trying to say that if anyone ever looked at a player's guide or read a walkthrough in the past, that means that they could never say they completed the game without cheating because having gotten a piece of knowledge about a game from any other source was cheating. And then the members argued back and forth. It was the person whose profile picture was of a snake who believed this if I recall correctly.
  6. Digitpress forum had a rarity guide too, but it was probably even more outdated. That forum used to be a lot more active a decade ago, but most users were also on AtariAge too, so it seemed to start looking like a second favorite board. I bought and sold so much stuff on that forum though and Hogie was on there too. I probably bought stuff from him when he was selling things off.
  7. I just store any of my original boxes in plastic bins in box protectors and put the cartridges into custom game cases with reprinted art and handle those without worry. I would even like to just make my own printed spare manuals for those. It's time consuming but I already made one in black & white on regular paper for Donkey Kong for NES using scans from the internet and I've never owned a real copy of that manual. It's obvious that it is not an original. The tricky part is doing the correct pages double sided so that when you put a staple in the middle, it comes out with the pages in the correct order.
  8. That is a very cool looking setup, although if I was doing it I would want a CD-RW drive on my machine as well to play the early CD games like Primal Rage, Sonic CD, Diablo, Oddworld etc that I've bought in that format, or be able to install Roxio Easy CD Creator like I used to use on my old Win 98 machine. It doesn't look like that case has room for another built in drive though.
  9. Have you tried looking in the old Crazyerics forum Tard Bin?
  10. Purple Ganon - someone had their tint on their TV adjusted all weird.
  11. I have to agree. Sega Genesis was cool when Super Mario Bros. 3 came out but at that point in time with no Sonic yet a lot of what Sega was focusing on were arcade ports, sports and stuff more geared toward older kids and up. Other than Castle of Illusion I don't remember a lot of other cartoony platforming games in the early days so the NES still had a lot to offer for people who really liked that genre in 1990. Plus everyone I knew who had a Genesis kept their NES and still went back to play it too, including myself. Sonic the Hedgehog is the game that I think really attracted the younger kids such as myself to the system alongside good cartoon character games like Taz-Mania and even more Disney games. Having a Genesis and later an SNES too, that didn't deter me from wanting to have as many NES games as possible. Plus they were cheaper by then so I could get even more of them.
  12. I've been playing the same games for a while: Pokemon Red Version for Game Boy Sonic World (fan game) for PC (mostly R9 rev 2) Beyond the Beyond for Playstation Super Mario Bros.: Level-Headed (v.0.3.8) (rom randomizer) for NES
  13. This week I played: Defender II for Arcade (via Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits for SNES) - played a few times on default settings and didn't get very far. I changed the dip settings to max starting lives, most frequent bonuses, and lowest difficulty. Then I abused smart bombs to get to level 61. Gex for Playstation - played thru the first area Joust for Arcade (via Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits for SNES) - played a few times on default settings and didn't get very far. I changed the dip settings to max starting lives, most frequent bonuses, and lowest difficulty. I rolled the level counter back to 0 and decided to stop playing at wave 2 (102) Pokemon Blue Version for Game Boy - obtained more Pokemon by playing and trading with other files of Pokemon Blue, then leveling some of them up Robotron: 2084 for Arcade (via Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits for SNES) - played a few times on default settings and didn't get very far. I changed the dip settings to max starting lives, most frequent bonuses, and lowest difficulty. The furthest I made it was wave 13. A new record for me. Sinistar for Arcade (via Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits for SNES) - played a few times on default settings and didn't get very far. I changed the dip settings to max starting lives, most frequent bonuses, and lowest difficulty. I was able to smash 14 Sinistars. Another new record for me. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64 - First I completed 1 player mode on very easy with Jigglypuff then Ness which were the last 2 characters. Then I played vs mode as every character vs every character once. I unlocked item switch in the process. I also unlocked sound test by redoing Mario's board the platforms challenge. So basically everything is unlocked on this file. X-Men: Children of the Atom for Playstation - Beat arcade mode on difficulty 1 as Wolverine, but had to use save states on Juggernaut and Magneto. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for Switch - All I did in each game was download the Membership Card mystery gift that will allow me to go find Darkrai in each game whenever I get far enough into them to do so.
  14. Pokemon Blue Version for Game Boy - obtained more Pokemon thru in-game trades and evolution via leveling up. Spider-Man/X-Men for SNES - completed the game Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64 - played 1 player easy mode then normal mode with the 3 lives limit as Mario to unlock Ness. Played 1 player very easy mode as Luigi then Captain Falcon. Defender (via Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits for SNES) - played a few times on default settings and didn't get very far. I changed the dip settings to max starting lives, most frequent bonuses, and difficulty going up each level. Made it to level 47 by abusing smart bombs. Full M.U.G.E.N games: Cartoon vs Anime MUGEN - played thru arcade mode as Mario on difficulty 1 (Easy). What a crazy story ending. Dragon Ball MUGEN Edition 2007 Ver 2.0 - played thru arcade mode as SonGoku SSJ2 (Who we usually refer to as Super Sayian 2 Goku) on difficulty 1 (Easy) after failing to complete it as Goku DB (who we usually refer to as Kid Goku). The first full MUGEN I tried back in 2007 when I discovered it, it doesn't hold up that well considering how unbalanced it is when you select a weaker or normal character and have to fight an OP character. Dragon Ball Z MUGEN Edition 2011 (Hi-Res) - I really made an effort to test this one out, using multiple forms of Goku. It seems pretty well done compared to the others I tried this week. I ended up finally beating arcade mode on difficulty 1 as Goku SSJ2 (even barely beating Goku SSJ4 by spamming the ki blast). Dragon Ball Z Sparking 2010 - this one wasn't as good as the other two IMO. I tried playing difficulty 1 as Goku Supersaiyajin and the first fight ended up being against Raditz who was overpowered. This one also displayed in a small window instead of fullscreen unlike the others. It also has a disclaimer saying it is a demo and wasn't supposed to be redistributed!
  15. I don't see why they don't just do 6 face buttons (not counting start/select or whatever replaces them) in addition to four L-R buttons. It would work better with arcade-style fighters. I think some 3rd party controllers do that by just duplicating top buttons on the controller face.
  16. I've tried all four (there is a Game Boy version too that plays much like the NES version except in monochrome), but I tend to gravitate toward the Genesis version. When I was in 4th grade a friend asked me if I had ever played Battletoads and I said no, so he let me borrow his copy of this game on Genesis. I thought the sound and gameplay were really cool. He decided to just let me keep the game. I definitely prefer the Double Dragon characters over the toads because their attacks do more damage to enemies.
  17. Now it's gotten to the point where two versions of the legit event Mews were backed up and added to PKHex in the encounter database. So copies of the legit Mew can be added to save files and transferred. Their OT names are YOSHIRB (USA late 1999- early 2000) and LUIGIC (Canada 2000). A shiny event Mew for Crystal version is also there with an OT named PCNYd (a USA November 2002 event). I assume pretty much any GSC file or Pokemon that was preserved from back in the day had to have been done by either use of the Mega Memory Card cartridge or by transferring Pokemon to Pokemon Stadium 2 and storing them there for years, due to all GSC clocks running down all the original batteries much faster than any RBY files. I have found backups of Gen 3 event Pokemon as well. What I don't think I have been able to find are backups of saves with event Pokemon still on Gen 4 or Gen 5 save files. Hopefully someone out there has them. Like hopefully not everyone just moved them all to Pokemon Bank because they can't go back. Unless PKHex is capable of just back porting them without screwing up their original stats and OT data.
  18. Five: flat plain, textured plain, flat Nintendo, textured Nintendo, and textured foil Nintendo. Yoshi (1992) is an example of a game that was originally a textured non-foil Nintendo. If any print runs were done in late 1993, there may be sealed copies that have the foil Nintendo, like my late print Dr. Mario.
  19. I'm still playing 2 of the same games: Pokemon Blue Version for Game Boy - I decided to go ahead and get more Pokemon after all. I played the slot machines to get enough coins to buy Porygon, then went back through catching all the wild evolved form Pokemon and extras of unevolved Pokemon where you can't find the evolved form of them in the wild. I used stones on the ones like that which needed those to evolve. I will still have to level up the ones that need to. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64 - I played through 1 player mode on very easy with the rest of the default characters (Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox and Pikachu) then unlocked Luigi by re-completing Mario's break the targets game to trigger the battle.
  20. This website seems to have the timeline of the Aladdin down to the month. It sounds like it had a limited number of retailers in February 1993 in USA and Canada for $39.99, a discovered batch again in 1996, then 2005 is when it was found in mass amounts and sold on ebay. Aladdin Deck Enhancer (www.nesworld.com)
  21. I thought I had proof of the Aladdin Deck Enhancer at least being found by 1998 or 1999. Look at any FuncoLand games list in the NES section under accessories. I remember the Aladdin being listed there. Does anyone have a scan or photo of the FuncoLand newspaper NES accessories list to verify? The month and year at the top of the newspaper-style list should be taken into account. In late 1999 they had Dreamcast and Neo Geo Pocket Color added. If I have any of these lists left they are probably in my storage unit, in a folder, in a plastic bin with the former contents of my file cabinet from before I moved. If anyone saved some, I would look for it on your oldest one, then look again on your newest one. Does anyone recall when that Aladdin Deck Enhancer was first found? Weird the Dec-Jan 2000 one I see posted in Bing's images doesn't have it. I could've sworn that the FuncoLand list was the first place I even heard of it.
  22. I'm kind of thankful just for the fact it makes things like Codemasters/Camerica and Tengen games more affordable than they otherwise would be. I really enjoy Dizzy, Big Nose and Tengen's Ms. Pac-Man for example. When it comes to Tetris I prefer the look and audio of the Nintendo version though.
  23. This week I've been playing: Donkey Kong Land 2 for Game Boy - I played from the 3rd area to the end of the game, getting all the Kremcoins and DK coins and completing the lost world. Gex 64: Enter the Gecko for Nintendo 64 - I played through the whole game, getting all red remotes and gold remotes. I was only missing some of the hidden silver remotes. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64 - I've played through 1 player mode as Mario, Donkey Kong and Link on very easy mode, unlocking Captain Falcon first and then Jigglypuff. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond - got the Oak's Letter event item and played through the second gym Pokemon Shining Pearl - got the Oak's Letter event item and played up to the forest before the second gym
  24. It won't count because I'm using savestates. If I do any of your counted stuff I'll replay them on the real console.
  25. I only played one game all week, and I played it a lot. Pokemon Blue Version for Game Boy Progress: I worked my way down to Fuchsia City from the docks south of Lavender Town and played through the rest of the game, getting the Legendary Birds, beating the Pokemon League, catching Mewtwo and catching more random Pokemon. Next I'll probably try to finish Donkey Kong Land 2 and more Nintendo 64 games.
