Although we didn't experience any lockdowns in Taiwan, we were still encouraged to socially distance and spend less time out and about. This ultimately led to me focusing more of my time on cycling and cooking dinner to pass the time, outside of work, and ultimately I lost about fifteen pounds and also put on some more muscle. This past month I haven't been cycling as it's been raining quite a bit, so my weight loss plateaued. So on the quest to lose another 15 pounds, I decided to make a few lifestyle changes, and one of them was to cut back on alcohol consumption. I always drink about 2 - 3 Liters of water a day while at work, and a black coffee at lunch; in the evenings I'd generally enjoy a pint or two. Not wanting to drink sugary drinks period, and also not wanting to drink caffeinated drinks in the evening, my recent replacements have been generally low-sugar sports drinks, carbonated water, and now I've started drinking some near beer as well. The local Taiwan brand doesn't taste bad, is cheap, and is low calorie too. So I'm just curious, does anyone else here drink "near beer"? Any particular brands you prefer? They tend to be lagers it seems. It's marketed as a way to get the test of beer without the effects of a standard brew. Not sure what's available in Taiwan vs the US. Tourtel seems to line the shelves near me. If you want something without alcohol at all you should try some of the "healthier" sodas. Less sugar, natural ingredients, no artficial colorings, that kind of thing. I know they contain trace amounts of alcohol, so does orange juice. There was one that was damn near spot on as far as taste, and I can't remember which one. I think one of the "Canadian" ones like Molson or Labatt? Ive actually eliminated all other alcohol except maybe a glass of scotch on Xmas or new years. I stole this approach from John daly who exclusively drinks Miller lite (since 5-6 years ago at least). For variety, I alternate between bottles and cans. Doug is a Miller person. Sad. Don't come to the St. Louis area. I didnt pay enough attention to the off-season, but I remember hearing Adam Schein say the reds easily had the best off-season of any team in mlb.
