oops | 85
i would also like to say what nesmaster said is truth. when you have all those factors going into the average it affects true value. I love when I get rare/mint games for PC price, also when i pay Canadian for USD value. those are the nicest buys its a good guideline but for anything actually interested in you have to go off other methods of determining value. ThePhleo | 2,184
I'd say GVN is reliable for now. But I wouldn't put it past them to fudge the numbers in a way to make things appear more expensive in the near future. There's a huge profit motive in owning and controlling a collectible pricing tool, especially considering the lack of love and respect that GoCollect has shown the community already. I wouldn't dare think of supporting a single GoCollect product right now. NA, and GVN are two of them.
Makar | 1,946
Price charting has always been pretty close to the real current value of games. I found gvn to be more exaggerated with certain titles but it got better over the years. Price charting is a good base, and then I check eBay since Amazon always has inflated prices due to the sellers losing 20% in fees to Amazon
Sega Genesis Sage | 15
VGPC for me, I never liked GVN's interface.
coffeewithmrsaturn | 100
Unless you're talking about frequently sold items in average/good condition, the trackers can be unreliable. If you are trying to put a value on something less common or looking for a condition premium, a bit of legwork goes a long way to clearing up what GVN or PC will be off on. I am also using GVN as my collection tracker, their prices always seemed a little off compared to actual ebay sales. I tried a couple of collection software trackers, but would always get frustrated for one reason or another. I finally started using an excel spreadsheet. It isn't the prettiest thing in the world but I can track exactly what I care about, which isn't much honestly. I'm starting to shy away from GVN. I did a set value on it a couple of weeks ago and it stated that prices were last updated in 10/2018 or something close to that. Just to far out on an update for my liking. I'll use pricecharting and ebay sold listings to get an idea when I am going for specific items. Other times I'll bid what I'm willing to pay and see how it goes. That usually doesn't end well for me.
Gex | 120
Still shocks me the amount of people that use GVN/PC religiously. I'll have someone on Facebook every month message me up bashing my prices because it's not inline with whatever price guide they're looking at it. And it's always a game that has a ton of price factors, like a CIB system or a box variant.
Velvet_the_Elf | 18
Does the collective group think the Go Collect guys get this right and align video games to the type of comprehensive database pricing we see in comics? I'm hopeful they get the sealed world right if nothing else. Graded CIBs now from WATA will be easier, but not easy given all the context needed to differentiate variants/releases. I wont believe a single thing out of them until I see it myself. All I've heard is empty promises and they are great at over promising and under delivering. Maybe they get the segment right that appeals to them but no way they get it all right.

Personally I see those figures as ball park and take condition into consideration accordingly. I'm fine with overpaying for a more complete good condition copy. I had a coworker tell me I was over priced on CIB Genesis game because he used pricecharting. He was looking at loose prices. It was like 13 games I offered for like $80. I did the math and knocked off like $15. I told him he was fucking crazy.
fusoyaff2 | 50
I have a whole stack of PS4, Vita and Switch games I picked up over the black Friday sales to add to GVN, since I haven't found a proper replacement for it yet. What a surprise, ALL of the Switch games I bought, even the recently released ones, are in their database, and yet no PS4 or Vita game released in 2019 is in there, and none of the games I manually added in the last 6 months have been converted from user-added-items. What is going on here? Do they have some exclusive Switch deal now? I'm worried the site altogether is just going to disappear overnight the way that NA did. Is there a similar site, which is still being supported, which I can switch (pardon the pun) to?

Everything else gets ignored, but all 6 of the Switch games I got for Christmas (the newest being Link's Awakening) were found in their listings!
