site update Signature limits incoming

Hey all, happy Friday!

This is a heads up that this weekend we'll be implementing new rules relating to the size of user signatures. This is pretty typical on forums to limit the signatures to a certain size/length, to avoid spam and not make for super long scrolls.

Currently the following will be applied:

• You will now have to have done both of the following to have a signature in the first place:
  • Be a member of the site for 3+ days
  • Make 10+ pieces of content (posts, blogs, etc.)
• Maximum 5 images in a signature
  • Some people might use little icons for social stuff, so 5 seems like a good balance
• Maximum total signature height of 400px
  • That's a lotta pixels
• Maximum 3 lines of text + images
• Maximum 3 links
  • If you want to list a bunch of socials, I might suggest using a site like Compiled, or using your About Me profile section (which has areas for links too)

Note that being a smarty-pants about loopholes or whatever will get your signature privileges removed. Breaking the above rules won't get you a warning or a ban or anything, we'd just message you if there's a problem and remove/fix the signature if necessary.

I was like, "Signatures? When do we ever have to sign anything on a message ... oh."

They don't show up at all on mobile cuz of the limited space, so that could be it.

Great point. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever accessed the site from a desktop. Only my iPhone.

The fun thing is I can just keep saying "yep" once every few months and it just kinda goes away!

Same, I had no idea the forum had signatures. That has to be the most annoying thing a forum can have. Could we make the limit just 4 characters and no images?

Just leave them off.  Some folks actually like to promote things, and it has led me to some buys in the past for people who put their sale thread in it.
