  1. Yeah I loved this build too. It never got boring and I was amazed at the techniques used to get such a nice shape. I found the Voltron set a little boring because it got repetitive. As a family I think it will be great because you can each do a part then bring it together. Looks amazing when finished though. Harry Potter castle is a fun build too and I could imagine even better with a family. Just $$$ but I always see it on discount here so probably the same for you guys.
  2. Also check out Brick Link. Normally better pricing than eBay and has a great database.
  3. I hear this a lot from adults and I think it’s because they haven’t looked at the sets LEGO now make aimed at adults as display pieces. They’re highly detailed models and look amazing when displayed. See if these sets interest you: Star Wars: 75181- y wing 75277 - boba fett helmet 75276- stormtrooper helmet 75274- tie fighter pilot helmet 75275- a wing Any of the architect series 21309 - Saturn V 21321- ISS 21311- Voltron 76139- 1989 batmobile
  4. This is my biggest problem. I have around 30 sets and I’m running out of room to display them and also store the boxes. One trick someone recommended was to carefully cut the tape on both ends of the box and flat pack them. I think I will have to move to this method next, currently they’re packed like Russian dolls haha.
  5. I don’t know if US Amazon allows you to purchase from Australia, but they currently have Nintendo Labo for $29aud https://www.amazon.com.au/Nintendo-LABO-Variety-Kit/dp/B0794MC58W/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=labo&qid=1594799717&sr=8-2
  6. Very cool! Looks to be to minifig scale too, which is always nice.
  7. Silent Hill is my favourite survival horror series. Probably won’t be seeing anymore games in the series with the way Konami is these days unfortunately. I also love the fatal frame series. I’m hoping they release the Wii U game on the Switch. They’ve re released nearly every other good game on that system so hopefully it gets a release.
  8. Some great games listed already. I love the Fatal Frame series and think they’re worth it. Also Yakuza, although they’ve been remade now I think. Don’t forget the Atlus classics if you like JRPGs, persona 3 & 4, Nocturne, digital devil saga and devil summoner. Also the Shadowheart games are another great JRPG series sometimes overlooked. I think the real fun with PS2 is when you go the Japanese route and get all their exclusive SHMUPs.
  9. Loved this game when it first released. Didn’t know it was on the switch. I’ll have to grab it.
  10. Probably would have to go with 497 Galaxy Explorer. Love the Classic Space sets and this one is my favourite. Loved this theme growing up and I have slowly been trying to get all these sets (finding room to fit them all is an issue now). My favourite build has actually been the recent LEGO Ideas set Pirates of Barracuda Bay though. A lot of great techniques and I love that you can easily convert it to the ship.
  11. https://www.lego.com/en-au/product/pirates-of-barracuda-bay-21322 There you go. Very fun build I can understand people thinking this is expensive if it’s not your hobby, but it actually is very affordable for a licence set. That video was amazing because it looks like we will be able to mod it with our own backgrounds which gives it more playability. Unfortunately it will be at this price. LEGO have been moving towards stickers more and more over the years.
  12. Nah forget that, just go to 11 and start with Martyrs. Good intro to foreign films at the same time, two birds with one stone! In all seriousness, at that age I think I was watching stuff like Gremlins, Poltergeist, A Nightmare on Elm St and Ghostbusters.
  13. LEGO are also releasing a Super Mario theme as well in case you haven’t seen it yet: https://www.lego.com/en-au/product/adventures-with-mario-starter-course-71360 I’m not a fan of these sets because they don’t look very LEGO like, but could be good for kids.
  14. Haha yep just saw that as I posted. As you said, no need to go crazy trying to get this if it sells out initially. LEGO aren’t like Nintendo and make some super low number of units and then act surprised when it sells out in a day. If people miss out, just wait for the next production cycle. The only advice I’d give to people is actually buy the set during the release years because one LEGO stop making it that’s when the sets will start sky rocketing. I think this set will definitely be around for a while. We don’t know the licence agreement terms with Nintendo but I’m pretty sure LEGO didn’t make a crazy deal where they can only make a limited supply. Hopefully this is successful and we see other consoles in the future.
  15. I think this set will be around for a year or two at least, so people shouldn’t have to go too crazy. Might be harder to buy at release, but people definitely shouldn’t pay scalper prices if they miss out. My advice would be to sign up for LEGO VIP (it’s free) and you will be able to buy it directly from LEGO a few days before the official launch.
  16. As a LEGO collector I can confirm this is all accurate. LEGO recently acquired the license for Nintendo so we will be seeing more of these sets aimed at the adult audience in the future. LEGO have realised that a big part of their revenue comes from AFOLs (adult fans of LEGO) and have increasingly started making sets like these for display purposes. This isn’t actually too badly priced for a licensed set. I think it will probably be around a 2500 piece set so it will be only around 10cents a piece. The Star Wars sets can be worse. The beauty of LEGO is that you could use all those parts and build something else with it. That’s where I think non LEGO people don’t understand the value. $250 is a good price range and if you think $250 is a lot then don’t even look at prices for older sets. Makes video game collecting seem like loose change. Also, a fun fact, the plural of LEGO is LEGO not LEGOs.
  17. Yep I thought that might be the case due to weight and distance. I’m still interested, so shoot me a PM once you do the second run.
  18. Yep that would work too. I prefer playing JRPG’s with the original Japanese voice over English where possible. Does it include both carts for the Japanese version?
  19. I was thinking of picking up the FFX/X-2 remake for the Switch to replay a very weird but overall fun FF game. However, I have discovered that X-2 is just a download code! Worse, it’s a one time code and requires the FF X cart to be present so it’s even more restrictive. Apparently the Asian version has both game carts. Anyone able to confirm this and know where it can be purchased for a reasonable price? Play Asia is sold out and eBay prices are crazy.
  20. Yeah I wasn’t sure if this should go general collecting or questions. Happy for it to be moved. Yep got those or they’re on my list to buy. I do love the native psp/ps1 comparability of the Vita. Really wish it was supported more in the West. I might have to look into some Japanese games that don’t require English.
  21. Some great mentions so far. Mulholland Drive and The Road would be my two stand out 11/10 films.
  22. Great list. Two games I noticed not on the list are Vostok Inc (available now) from Wired Productions and SHMUP Collection (pre orders open) from various places, VGNY Soft & VG plus for US/Canada and Pixel Heart for Europe. I hope one day soon we will actually get a release date for Ikaruga.
  23. Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy done. Never played 1 on launch, didn’t realise how brutal it was. Also, forgot how easy 2 & 3 were. 1: 2: 3:
  24. We’ll unfortunately have to agree to disagree. Video games are now bigger than Hollywood and will only grow. I do believe people will continue to buy NES games even if they’re outdated or the people who originally grew up with them died. We only need to look to older collectibles to come to this conclusion. Comics, cards, coins, vintage toys and the list goes on. There are already modern games worth a lot more than their original purchase. Nearly every LRG switch game is worth almost double or more of its initial purchase price. 100% ROI over a couple of years. Just like stocks, people in the know will see the patterns and get the right games. Also people can buy heavily discounted games at the end of cycles and make a good profit. GameStop were selling most ps2 games for $5-10. A lot of those games will increase over the years and some are already going for crazy prices because now those people who grew up with the ps2 want to re play those games. I think if someone had $10k to invest they should definitely consider collectibles as part of their investment portfolio along with stocks. Always good to have diversification.
  25. I think you’re simplifying the stock market a little too much. It isn’t as simple as clicking a button and instant profit. That may be the case over the last 2-4 years but that is due to multiple reasons, mainly US money printing and low interest rates. People will always tell you about their Apple purchase but forget to mention their losses like GE or Ford. Stock picking over the long term is hard and the reason why there aren’t many Warren Buffett’s around. It would be better to look at index fund returns over the years which average 10-11% with dividends. Had you bought every game released in the US on the NES in 1985 and kept them sealed vs the equal amount of money invested into the Dow Jones you would be way ahead with the games. I do agree with you that it would be wiser for most people to just invest in the stock market, but I do think that video games are just as valid for investing and will be going forward into the future.
