  1. Punch Out has had five games since its inception in 1984, (six if you want to count Teleroboxer) and they've all been fantastic. I'd also argue that Wario as a series has been pretty consistent, though it's had some clunkers. I'm not counting WarioWare Snapped though, as it's a two minute tech demo rather than an actual game. Other than Game & Wario, Wario Master of Disguise, and the Game Cube port of the original WarioWare, the series has been pretty solid. Even WarioWare D.I.Y is really fantastic if you're a creative type. If you're able to figure out how to use the game's tools to their fullest, you can make some genuinely great microgames in it. Wario was even good on Virtual Boy! Somehow that's two Virtual Boy shout outs in the same post. I miss that old thing so much.
  2. Dear Sega: I hate Sonic Lost World, and today I threw it in the garbage bin at our building for the flies to shit all over. I didn't finish this game, and never will. I got VERY close to finishing though, a mere five levels away from the end before I simply couldn't take it anymore. I was so incredibly angry playing it that I gave myself a headache, and I had to get it out of my house as I wasn't going to have an aneurysm and die over finishing a horrendous video game. It's such a shame too, as the first two worlds are absolutely fantastic, and exceed the quality of some of Nintendo's own Wii U games. World three isn't terrible either, and the worst you can say is it's not as good as the first two. Worlds four through six are where the game falls apart, and shows that Sega didn't finish the game before releasing it. New mechanics are introduced that are EXTREMELY fiddly and broken, and I don't know who at the company played the sections with ice physics and said "yeah it's fine". Ice physics aren't a universally terrible thing as one might think, as I've played many platformers where ice physics are challenging in a fun way. Ice physics that DON'T WORK on the other hand are a completely different thing, and Sonic Lost World has PLENTY of those! You'd think it'd be limited to the ice world too, but as a sick joke they bring them back for a later level out of the blue. The later levels also start to run out of money, and the 3D segments almost disappear entirely in the sixth world. Where I finally called it quits was in the last level of world six where there's a hideously broken sand slide where you face the camera, and things fly at you from behind. The physics are completely broken, and no matter how little you nudge the control stick, you go sailing off the edge. Now if the Wii U didn't have such a crippling terror of supporting the D-Pad, this wouldn't have been an issue at all. I don't know who at Nintendo has been trying to kill off D-Pad support, but I hate whoever you are. I'm not going to consider the game beaten, but I did make a serious effort to finish. For the sake of my well being though, I quit.
  3. I have many white teddy bears, but there's one in particular I sleep with. It's less about security, and more that it's comfy and warm. It gets extremely cold in the winter, so why not bundle up with teddy bear padding? It genuinely helps me sleep. I don't sit around and play with it like Andy from Toy Story though.
  4. I'm going into the next Smash Bros. game with the assumption that most of the guest fighters will be gone, so I'll just be picking from the main Nintendo cast. I'm also going to exclude clones from this, as I assume most of them will get the axe too. Speaking strictly of unique fighters, I've been wanting Sheik to get the axe for ages. It made sense why she was there in Melee, but she's so unimportant to even the Zelda series, as it's not like they've ever delved into who Zelda was masquerading as. I've wanted to play as a Goron in Smash Bros. for a very long time, and the series has countless cool Gorons to choose from. They could even make the many Goron elders alternate skins like they did with Browser Jr. and the Koopalings. It'd be way cooler than playing as Zelda's roleplay persona.
  5. In a genre I like makes it a bit tougher. I guess when it comes to mini-game collections, I feel like there are way better games than the Wii Sports series. Wii Sports Resort was the best the series got, but most of Hudson's mini-game collections beat the snot out of it. Also when it comes to marble maze games, I don't really like Super Monkey Ball. I'll agree with those that said the Mother games aren't all that, but I'll be a little more fair and say that they hold up better than a lot of other generic RPGs. Mother at least has an identity, where something like Breath of Fire I couldn't distinguish from any other SNES RPG at a glance. I do think that Mother 2 is the worst of the trilogy though, which makes it frustrating how people gush over it. Never forget that the "terrifying" final boss makes the fourth or fifth pee your pants joke in the game. Truly a game with "spectacular" writing.
  6. In regards to the post above, remember that weird era where Konami tried really hard to make Frogger a popular series? The games they put out for the GBA and DS were surprisingly good. Frogger 2 on GBC is pretty underrated too.
  7. I'm officially starting my Wii revisit! I'm starting out by aiming for the best game that each major publisher put out, which is fun to do on the Wii due to its great third party support. Final Fantasy The Crystal Bearers is one of the Wii's best kept secrets, and Trauma Center New Blood always gets unfairly discarded compared to the rest of the series. It always astounds me how little people care about Elebits considering how good it is, and Red Steel 2 is Ubisoft's forgotten masterpiece. Not a bad start, and it'll eat up my time until I can get the others I'm looking for. Just a quick update for once, so that's all for me this time!
  8. Harvest Moon GB is super good Tanooki. It's the only game in the series that I ever got into. I liked that there wasn't any dating in the GB games. Harvest Moon GB ate up my whole summer in 2016 when I first played it. There's a lot of things that aren't really told to you, so I suggest looking up a guide to see what your overall objectives are. You get rewarded with things depending on how well you farm, and there's no way of knowing them without looking into it.
  9. More Wii U strategy guides! There's only one more that I want after this, but I'll keep it a mystery for now. The Tropical Freeze guide is one you don't see too often, and I had to wait a long time for an auction to pop up. I did win the auction, but there was one other bid right at the end. Thankfully they didn't bid enough! I bought this game because you can dress up your Miis in cute outfits and have them do gymnastics dances. Little did I know that it's actually the entire point of the game, as winning mini-game tournaments rewards you with clothing for your Miis, as well as money which you can spend on randomly selected clothing and stickers. This game is so close to being a dress up game that I can't even believe it. I'm also totally okay with this fact. I highly recommend this game if you're infatuated with the Miis like I am, as in that regard I couldn't be happier with it. If you're a Mario or Sonic fan and want it for those characters, you'll probably be disappointed. Next up, let's drool over Twilight Princess Link! When I was a stupid sixteen year old who watched idiotic romance anime, I was WAY into Link from Twilight Princess. He's the perfect romance anime protagonist, being incredibly handsome; but a total nincompoop. When Link is quietly listening to people, he always looks perfectly serious or has a loving smile. Yet as soon as he has to react to something, he's incredibly awkward and makes stupid faces. He's the perfect representation of a brainless trophy boyfriend, and was the apple of teenage Lynda's eye. AND NOW A SHIFT FROM WII U I was planning to revisit the Wii when I finished with the Wii U, but then DJ Hero showed up at the game store. The outer box has some damage, but I didn't give a $%&@ as I just wanted to play DJ Hero. I mentioned it in another thread, but DJ Hero was the greatest video game surprise of my entire life. Never had I expected so little from a game, and came away with so much. While the turntable was and still is a cooler concept to me than the guitars ever were, the most important difference between DJ Hero and Guitar Hero is that the music doesn't suck. Guitar Hero is a series that plays all the same songs you've heard countless times on the radio to the point where you hate them all, but DJ Hero focused on a style of music that I hadn't been exposed to at the time. The best part is that the song list consists entirely of original mash ups, which made me inclined to seek out the originals. DJ Hero was responsible for me finding my preferred taste in music, so it holds a special place in my heart. I'm also able to better appreciate the mash ups these days, and it just makes me love DJ Hero even more. This is my favourite mash up in the game, which sent me towards the type of music that I still enjoy to this day. That's all for me this time!
  10. Here comes another installment in everyone's favourite thread! Lynda's Mii OCs! I thought I'd be more descriptive this time to make the thread more interesting, and give you an idea what I was going for with each character. I haven't made any Miis in a while, but I got motivated again when I thought to fill all one hundred slots on my 3DS with high quality Miis! So I've bumped the goal to making a full one hundred Miis, fifty boys and fifty girls. This is good as I've really enjoyed making the older women, and the extra slots let me make more! I've got six new ones, and the first dude is in this post too! These are two of my favourites so far! Karen is a tired, but beautiful middle aged woman. Marie is a similar design, but still has a pep in her step. She's pretty similar to Laura, but better designed. Charlotte was a rejected Mii that I've had backed up as a QR card for a while now, but I finally sat down and fixed her. It's not one of my best ones, but she ended up as a cooler woman in her 30s. Joseph and the next two Miis are the first Mii family I made, and I'm really happy with all of them! The images don't do a good job of showing it, but Joseph is a little shorter than you'd think. He's a good looking, but hard to motivate type of person. Alisha was super fun, as I tried to make a masculine, but beautiful woman. I highly recommend making a Mii Brawler with her in Smash Bros 4, and give her the tracksuit outfit. She looks fantastic like that. Maye is Alisha and Joseph's daughter, who I designed by making a copy of Alisha, and making everything smaller and sillier. Even her eyes are the same except that they're wide open, and her mouth is the same but without the lipstick. I think I'll go back and add descriptions to the older posts, as I should have been doing that from the start.
  11. Come on guys, don't be wise guys with answers like Mario's Missing. You know what he meant. XD I would rank Mario Land 2 higher than Lost Levels, but I don't think it's better than the three I played as a kid. Something that's always bothered me about Mario Land 2 though is that the game is mostly wide open space, but the more cramped levels where you're more confined are really difficult because the game isn't built for that. It's the main reason Wario Castle is so hard. It's certainly a really great Game Boy game though, and an absolute must play for that system. Considering the hardware they were working with, it's still a fantastic Mario game that stands tall with the others.
  12. I have no idea what it may be unfortunately, but there IS a possibility he's a creepypasta demon. Stay on your toes, and let us know if he causes any dream sequences.
  13. Sticking with Nintendo I.P that had more than one game, Wave Race was Game Boy, Rhythm Heaven was GBA, Panel de Pon was SNES, Battle Clash was SNES, Star Fox was SNES, Pushmo was 3DS eShop, Nintendogs was DS, Magical Vacation was GBA, Brain Age and Big Brain Academy were DS, Art Academy was DSiWare, Chibi-Robo was Game Cube, Custom Robo was Game Cube, Steel Diver was 3DS, and many others. Kind of a strange idea for a thread, not gonna lie.
  14. So hey, I know this is breaking the rules, but I'm going to make a new starting post. When I first joined the site not long ago, this was one of the first threads I posted in with no real idea of what I was doing. Not being able to fix my initial stupid post has discouraged me from taking part in the challenge at all, so I'd rather just break the rules and start over so I can take part and have fun again. Don't worry though, I'm more than willing to make up for it! My goal for the rest of the year is to finish one Wii U game a month! Since we're still early in the month, this is a perfect time to do this. Please don't give me too much of a hard time for this, as I'd rather take part and have fun than sit out for the rest of the year just to make a new post. This will be the only time I ever do this, so whatever I sign up for next year I promise I'll be stuck with. So here are my goals for the rest of the year! August: Yoshi's Woolly World September: Sonic Lost World October: Resident Evil Revelations November: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker December: Pikmin 3 I'll get back to this challenge and aim to finish some of these games I've been buying!
  15. Fair enough, but to be honest you're fixating on the only part of my post that was totally in jest. I also wasn't comparing the two point systems at all. All I said was that it was funny that they eventually added a point system back to the series later on.
  16. Dear lord I hate having to be on full alert until 10:00PM because Intelcom delivers so stupidly late. I can't enjoy my evening because I have to keep an ear out for parcels, just to make sure they don't sit out overnight and get stolen. It really is amazing how poorly designed parcel delivery is at times. They also ALWAYS come super late, and their window is 8:00AM to 10:00PM, but it's more like 8:45PM to 10:00PM.
  17. Not to go off topic right away, but I like early NES Capcom, (Commando, Trojan, Mega Man, 1943, Gunsmoke, Bionic Commando) and mid-late era Konami (Castlevania III, Super C, Track & Field II, Ninja Turtles III)
  18. Mega Man 1 is one of my favourite NES games. It's the least polished of the NES Mega Man games, but it's still my favourite one. I got really good at this game at one point and could consistently get through the entire game without dying, zipping, or pause glitching. Yellow Devil is the best fight in the game, and is so much fun once you get the pattern down. I also feel like the weapons were at their most useful in Mega Man 1. There's genuine use for all of them in a deathless playthrough, and they're so cleverly designed to work with the stage's enemy placements that a difficult area can be completely solved by simply using the right weapon. There's a lot of different ways you can approach a section based on the weapon you have, and enemies are weak to multiple weapons, which isn't as common in the later ones. There's no password which can be a bummer when you're still learning the game, but once you're good at it you don't need them since the game is shorter than other Mega Man games. Also there's points! They're completely pointless, but why would they remove them? It's funny too as the Mega Man Zero games would later add a scoring system back into the game. Unfortunately it's one of those games that's infinitely worse with even a single frame of lag, so it's a CRT or bust kind of game. (A sad fate for many NES games) I know it's not everyone's favourite Mega Man, but it sure as heck is mine.
  19. Okay, this time I'm frustrated. I sent a pretty silly offer on a Hyrule Warriors strategy guide, and the person actually accepted it! It's been quite some time now, but yesterday it was out for delivery... in a different city. The seller messaged me as soon as they saw the tracking was listed as "redirected to recipient's new address", and told me to update them if it manages to get to my house. According to them, eBay sent the wrong address entirely for the shipping label. Stranger things have happened to me on eBay, so I genuinely believe it wasn't their fault. It's certainly a first though, which is never fun as I have no idea how this will play out. The best-worst case scenario is the that it doesn't show up and I get a refund, but that's hardly comforting considering the price I got it for. I'm pretty much counting it out, as I have very little faith it will make it to me now. It's only been one day since the error though, so hopefully things will turn around. The seller told me there was a return address on the parcel should it come to that, so there's still a chance it makes it here.
  20. I was watching this thinking "This is cute. I get what it's going for... " and then the six screw joke came on screen and I burst out laughing. The art makes that gag work so well.
  21. Fair enough. The way you seem to feel about Sword and Shield is the same way I feel about the Alola games. To me those are completed wretched Pokemon games, and they go against almost everything I want out of the series. I didn't play Legends Arceus as I have no interest in gaming's open world obsession. I really dislike open world games, so to see the series go in that direction like everything else right now really frustrates me. I've been of the opinion that Pokemon's formula has always been fine and doesn't really need to change, but the formula has just been done poorly ever since Black/White. Sword/Shield was the closest I've felt to recapturing what I like about Pokemon, so I had a great time with it. It's sort of the problem with trying to tell someone which game they should buy, as everyone has totally different experiences with games.
  22. I had been struggling to figure out what to do about the New Super Mario Bros. U and Mario Kart 8 guides I bought, seeing as how I wasn't planning to double dip on franchises. Then I discovered Mario and Sonic at the 2016 Olympic Games, where you can dress your Miis in adorable outfits and have them do gymnastics dances. I wasn't going to make my life worse by NOT having Mii dancing in it, so I went straight to eBay and bought a copy of the game. I had no interest in waiting for a good deal, as some things are simply more important than money. This broke my mental barrier towards duplicate franchises, so I picked up New Super Mario Bros. U and Mario Kart 8 to go with my strategy guides. I also swapped Mario Kart 8's red case with a blue one, so deal with it.
  23. I enjoyed Pokemon Shield a lot, and if you find yourself struggling to invest a lot of time into Pokemon these days, you may enjoy how brisk paced the game is. It's important to note that despite all of the game's criticism, it really does play differently to any other Pokemon game. The whole experience is streamlined to be a much quicker adventure, and if you're the type that has never given a crap about the story in Pokemon, you'll appreciate how little the game gives a crap too. The new Pokemon are all really fun and fantastic, the battle music is some of the best the series has seen in a long time, and gym battles are the spectacle you've always envisioned them in your head. Having played since Red/Blue and been frustrated with the series ever since Black/White, I thought Pokemon Shield was an amazing breath of fresh air. I know it has a lot of haters, but I'd honestly say it's my third favourite in the series behind original Silver and original Ruby. Your mileage may vary of course, but I genuinely recommend the game to fans of the series who don't care about Pokemon's plot, and just want fun battles.
  24. This isn't really a rant, but a crazy thing happened on eBay a few days ago. I ordered an expensive Wii U game from somebody, (over $100) and it had been five days without it being shipped. The guy suddenly messaged me and apologized for it taking so long, and said he was very backed up with orders due to a family emergency. He said he was going to take a whole whack of parcels to the post office in two more days, and send them all at once so he'd get caught up. I was frustrated, but I wasn't going to complain about a family emergency delaying things. THREE days go by and I'm getting kind of worried, and out of the blue the guy messages me again. This time he said that he had planned to send all of the parcels while going home from work, but in his own words, "I stupidly left them all stacked on the passenger seat." He then showed a picture of his passenger window completely smashed open! He had already issued a refund before he sent the message, so I said it was all good and wished him the best. I just got the refund today and ordered a replacement copy, so hopefully this one actually makes it to the post office.
  25. From now on I'll be updating here when I get stuff. Time to get this thread caught up! Here's a list of stuff I showcased earlier that I no longer own. Games: Shantae Half Genie Hero, Skylanders Giants, Batman Arkham Origins, Just Dance 2015. Toys to Life: Skylanders Giants figures, Summer Isabelle amiibo Strategy Guides: Skylanders Giants, Batman Arkham Origins, Wind Waker HD Collector's Edition Since I last posted in here, I've boosted my collection of Wii U guides significantly. The Mighty No. 9 and New Super Mario Bros. U guide arrived for me today, and the Mighty No. 9 guide is notable as it was an exclusive Kickstarter reward. Someone on eBay accepted my offer of $40.00 for it. The Mighty No. 9 guide is the only strategy guide I've ever sat down and read cover to cover. It was a great book full of artwork and behind the scenes insight, though the enthusiasm of the creator commentary was charming in hindsight. The Callie and Marie amiibo unlock basically the same things in Splatoon, so I only bought Marie. The amiibo cards wrapped up everything I needed for Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, which was great to finally finish. I've never played an Angry Birds game before, but I've frequently been told that Angry Birds Star Wars is the best game in the series. It just happens to be on Wii U! I mainly bought Wii Fit U for more HD Miis in cute outfits, but I was also interested in the game itself. My BMI was 23 and my Wii Fit age was 28 even though I'm 32, so I don't wanna hear any wisecracks about me playing this game for fun. I've been trying to keep my Wii U collection from doubling up on franchises, but I'll admit Hyrule Warriors is pushing it. It's the Wii U's Dynasty Warriors game, and I'm going to treat it as such. I couldn't know less about Monster Hunter; but I figured I'd give it a shot! The first Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures wasn't very good, but the second game managed to make something great out of it. If you can appreciate when something low budget turns out better than it has any right to be, I think you'll really like Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2. I think Mighty No. 9 is a great little game, but I understand why people resent it so much. I ignored all of the Kickstarter drama back in the day, so I can only judge the game on what it is. While it's not very polished, I think it's genuinely fun and enjoyably written. I found myself cracking up way more than I expected, and I enjoy Dr. Sanda and AVI in particular. Now you're all caught up! See you next time!
