  1. These Election Results Should Have Democrats Scared Out of Their Wits Right Now https://www.thedailybeast.com/these-election-results-should-have-democrats-scared-out-of-their-wits-right-now With Donald Trump out of the White House and gas prices at record highs, Americans are not in a forgiving mood. Intellectual detachment and escapes from reality are no longer acceptable. The Jan. 6 Committee hearings will not save them. When the Democrats trail among Hispanic voters, they are marinated in crisis. Reckoning approaches. It’s not just about the contours of redistricting. https://www.sfgate.com/elections/article/Biden-reacts-to-Chesa-Boudin-getting-recalled-17228157.php “Voters sent a clear message last night,” Biden said Wednesday. “Both parties have to step up and do something about crime as well as gun violence.” People are tired of "reforms" that lead no where - and I'm definitely NOT saying all reforms are bad, some are much needed. But anything that looks "soft on crime" is just bad, always was, and always will be... and I hope Biden can figure out that it's not "gun violence" as a whole - people want career criminals off the streets and that certainly has not happened the past few years.
  2. Wish this was a joke... Trump Wants Children's Book Defending 'King Donald' In 'Every School In America' https://www.huffpost.com/entry/plot-against-king-trump-kash-patel-childrens-book_n_629aec9de4b0c184bdd1555e Former President Donald Trump is peddling a children’s book written by a former member of his administration that stars “King Donald” and reimagines a kingdom where the “Russionians” weren’t a factor in the 2016 election. Now Trump wants to distribute the book to children across the land. “Let’s put this amazing book in every school in America,” Trump posted on Truth Social last week.

  5. A woman was gored and tossed by a bison after approaching the animal in Yellowstone National Park https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/01/us/yellowstone-woman-gored-by-bison/index.html An Ohio woman was gored by a bison after she got within 10 feet of the animal in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, officials said. The 25-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, suffered puncture wound and other injuries Monday after she approached a bison near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, park officials said in a news release. "Consequently, the bison gored the woman and tossed her 10 feet into the air," the news release said. I really wonder about people...
  6. https://www.american.edu/spa/civildiscourse/what-is-civil-discourse.cfm Polarization of opinions, coupled with the speed and access of the digital age have made it more difficult to keep our conversations civil in America today. From shouting matches, to opinionated blog posts, to rhetoric-filled political debates, we are confronted every day with uncivil conversation. Civil Discourse is Truthful Productive Audience-based About listening and talking Each Speaker's own responsibility Civil Discourse is not Mere politeness An exercise in martyrdom About telling other people who they are Purely performative
  7. That does vary from state to state - I know for instance that in CA you can't simply give someone a gun as a gift even if they have no criminal history and are eligible to own a gun, it must go through a dealer and therefore a background check. Of course in other states, most states, I believe there are no such restrictions.
  8. Firearms all have unique serial numbers as required by law. Sometimes you hear about a criminal removing the serial number which is against the law - this is done typically on stolen guns so that they can not be traced. Also, if you purchase a gun, be it at a dealer or gunshow, you absolutely will need to go through a background check. That said, "ghost guns" are also becoming a real issue since they too are often "untraceable".
  9. Retrobit - That is quite cool, especially since the ending is new! Well, new to American audiences at any rate
  10. https://www.facebook.com/uvaldepd Really, it's paramount to a crime what the Uvalde police department did, or, did not do. The fallout from this will last years. Expect key people to "retire" and "relocate" in a bid to try and save their sorry asses
  11. Uvalde police, school district no longer cooperating with Texas probe of shooting https://www.yahoo.com/gma/uvalde-police-school-district-no-211000417.html The Uvalde Police Department and the Uvalde Independent School District police force are no longer cooperating with the Texas Department of Public Safety's investigation into the massacre at Robb Elementary School and the state's review of the law enforcement response, multiple law enforcement sources tell ABC News. They're lawyering-up because they fucked-up so badly they're going to do everything in their power to try and divert blame.
  12. https://www.thedailybeast.com/top-russian-military-brass-caught-venting-youre-fucked-putinmotherfucker Two high-ranking Russian military officers have been caught shit-talking Kremlin leadership in unimaginably colorful language. The two colonels blast the defense minister and lash out at that “motherfucker” Vladimir Putin for his poor strategy in Ukraine, according to a leaked recording of a phone conversation.
  13. A few hours in, and so far a fun retro-inspired RPG with a TON of schnat to do! From Zelda-like fishing mini-games to Diablo-like creatures and magic, I'm enjoying this! Some of the mechanics could use a tiny bit of tweaking or at least explaining, but still more fun than most AAA games
  14. So... Lithuania crowdfunded to purchase for Ukraine one of the fearsome Bayractar drones. They raised over $5million in three days!
  15. https://www.businessinsider.com/truck-accident-spills-15000-pounds-hot-dog-filler-road-2022-5 Well, I'm sure they'll scoop it up and it will be on it's way...
  16. Here's why we should stop using mental illness as the scapegoat in mass shootings https://www.caller.com/story/news/local/2022/05/30/uvalde-texas-stop-using-mental-illness-scapegoat-mass-shootings/9940213002/ According to a statement by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Texas, the overwhelming majority of people with mental illness are not violent. In fact, people with mental illness are more likely to be the victims of violence, rather than the perpetrators. Less than 10 percent of shootings nationwide involved people with mental illness. When we rush to make a false correlation between mental illness and mass shootings, we’re actually keeping people from seeking much needed services and perpetuating stigma. It applies to crime in general, not just shootings. Every single time a criminal is caught, they will inevitably claim "mental issues".

  18. Trump loyalist who lost Georgia governor primary with just 3.4% of the vote is refusing to admit defeat https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/world/news/trump-loyalist-who-lost-georgia-governor-primary-with-just-3-4-of-the-vote-is-refusing-to-admit-defeat/articleshow/91869015.cms A candidate for the GOP nomination for governor of Georgia refused to concede defeat even though she received only 3.4% of the vote on Tuesday. Kandiss Taylor, a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, came third in the race. She received significantly fewer votes than David Perdue, who had Trump's formal endorsement, and incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp, who won by 73.7% and secured the nomination. After the results were clear, Taylor complained that the election was "rigged" against her, The Daily Beast reported. On her Telegram, Taylor shared a message referring to the vote as a "rigged election." Taylor ran her campaign on a "Jesus, Guns, Babies" platform, Insider previously reported. During an anti-abortion speech last week she criticized the separation of church and state, a principle that has underpinned US democracy since the American Revolution. "We are the church! We run this state," Taylor said. It would almost be comical, if she were not dangerous - and dangerous she is. She is dangerous to American values and democracy. Fortunately, she got destroyed in the elections which is a great sign, but these Trumpers are a danger to all.
  19. Very nice! Question - which Atari games are "rare", coveted, all that jazz?
  20. Of course it's subjective, but it's fun to discuss Also, please do NOT just list games as you did, please explain WHY you think the games are still fun to play.
  21. The music is wonderful, and for me, music is more important than visuals. That said, for an NES game, the visuals are gorgeous! Play control is surprisingly tight. It has a great epic feel, where you can explore around but you never get lost. The level-up system is unique and interesting, and it's fun to use various magics. I read that some people absolutely hate the last dungeon (Great Palace) but even as a kid, I remember how epic it felt. Also, the last two bosses in Zelda II are unique - I won't say more than that
