  1. Absolutely infuriating! https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/05/27/uvalde-texas-shooting-police-response/9964966002/ List of what went wrong in Texas school massacre grows Door left open, allowing gunman to enter school Officer 'drove right by the suspect' Officers close enough to suspect to be wounded, but rampage continues No immediate effort to break through locked door 911 calls from classroom didn't change police response Officers waited to retrieve keys I agree with @CodysGameRoom - the notion that all across America everyone wanted to "defund the police" is just wrong. While there were some movements that did want to defund the police, the vast majority of Americans just wanted police held accountable. Guess what - same thing here! Police need to be accountable for their actions AND they need to be trained to handle such situations. That said, in principle, the police are trained to handle such situations, but clearly they failed here. All the anger here is completely understandable. One can argue about what "gun laws" need to be in place, how they should be implemented etc etc but how can anyone argue that the police, or at any rate the police chief, went against basic training and because of incompetence failed to save lives.
  2. The days of kids playing with toy guns outside of their houses is long gone! Cap guns and other guns were always fun, but now, alas, that enjoyment is ruined. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand why we can't let kids play with guns, but yeah, different times for those of us that grew up pre-Columbine...
  3. What happens when ‘good guys with guns’ don’t use them? In Uvalde, Texas, children died https://www.star-telegram.com/opinion/bud-kennedy/article261747462.html Police know how to end a school shooting. “Wait an hour and then send in the Border Patrol SWAT team” is not the right way. One of the worst days in Texas history is now a law enforcement outrage that will last for years. Uvalde police, school officers, county deputies and state troopers must explain why they guarded their own lives instead of 19 children’s, and then face the eternal scorn of parents face-to-face every day in that tight-knit ranching town west of San Antonio. “Look, they are the first line of defense — their job is not to wait for the SWAT team,” said former Fort Worth police Chief Jeff Halstead, now a Las Vegas-based law enforcement consultant.
  4. Former NYPD boss calls Texas law enforcement 'an embarrassment' as they face criticism and allegations that cops didn't confront the school shooter https://news.yahoo.com/former-nypd-boss-calls-texas-144409040.html Former two-time commissioner of the New York City Police Department Bill Bratton ripped Texas law enforcement on Friday as "an embarrassment" amid mounting criticism of the police response and handling of the deadly Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooting. "You move to the shooter no matter what. You move to the shooter to save lives," Bratton said, explaining, "Officers around the country" since the 1999 Columbine High School massacre "have trained to do that." Bratton, who also led the Los Angeles Police Department and the Boston Police Department in addition to the NYPD, said "at the moment" Texas authorities handling the shooting are "doing a terrible job of trying to basically control this situation."
  5. By the way, the name is REAL! Yup, I had to check https://cityofsunprairie.com/DocumentCenter/View/3354/2015-Annual-Report?bidId=
  6. Bel Air mega-mansion listed for $87.8 million flops at auction and the celebrity developer seller is furious https://finance.yahoo.com/news/bel-air-mega-mansion-listed-161003169.html A lavish Bel Air mansion that was listed for $87.8 million reportedly received just half of the asking price when it went to auction last week. According to CNBC, the highest bid for the property was just under $45.8 million — around 52% of the mammoth asking price. The property’s seller, celebrity dermatologist and developer Alex Khadavi, told CNBC the auction results were “horrible, horrible, horrible." "Nobody told me this thing’s going to go below, below this level,” he added. Alex, I'm going to go with "no one gives a shite about your overpriced mansion and problems" for $200. I personally hope all such mega-mansions and property for the ultra-rich dry up. I hope there are laws put in place that will stop said developers from purchasing houses left and right so that they can just jack-up the rent. I hope these people are burned at the stake...
  7. Great news - Ex-Nurse Sentenced to Probation in Patient Medication Death Nashville Criminal Court Judge Jennifer Smith said Vaught would receive judicial diversion, a way for first-time offenders to have their charges dropped and their records expunged after successfully completing probation. Prosecutors had argued against diversion, although they were not opposed to probation. The crowd of nurses outside protesting cheered, cried and hugged after hearing the sentence. The relief came after the health care workers spent hours in the sun and clung to every word of the judge’s lengthy sentencing explanation, some linked in a chain with hands locked. Nurses have an incredibly difficult and demanding job. Furthermore, they often receive shit salary despite the literally life-or-death decisions they must make. Everyone on occasion will make mistakes. If you read through the history of this case, it becomes evident that the real culprit is the famed Vanderbilt University Medical Center which had numerous issues with how they handled patients before this, and then they threw her under the bus! I don't believe this should ever have come to trial, but I'm glad the best possible outcome occurred.
  8. 12-year-old boy shot after woman fires into crowd, police say According to police, they took 35-year-old Latorya Lemons into custody for harassment earlier in the week...According to a police affidavit, Lemons was charged with two counts of harassment. She is accused of threatening to kill her ex-boyfriend. She was locked up and released on bond on those charges. After being released, police say she shot the child in North Memphis in a drive-by shooting that landed her back behind bars. During her arrest, police report hearing Lemons yelling she would kill everyone in the household. FOX13 recently checked with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office who informed us that Lemons is no longer in custody for either charge. https://news.yahoo.com/12-old-boy-shot-woman-013440058.html Wow... shooting a 12-year old and then still being able to bond out of jail! Amazing, and then later people wonder why violent crimes keep increasing. Oh, wait. That's right, I forgot, it's clearly "the guns", yeah, that's it
  9. The woman crashed into the man’s car on Santa Ana Canyon Road, but lost control of her vehicle, which rolled over, police said. She was ejected and killed in the crash. Her boyfriend suffered minor injuries, police said. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be involved. On Sunday, the Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Didiana Lomeli of Anaheim, according to MyNewsLA. Wisdom From the Ages: Don't date crazy.

  11. A small bit of justice, or really, the start of justice...
  12. Kinda net. I'm not interested, but neat nevertheless
  13. Games, like say TV shows, are a product of their time. The original Zelda was unique and ground-breaking. However, today it really shows its age and it's just not that fun to play. Zelda II still holds up incredibly well. While it too is a product of its time, it has enough going for it that even with today's sensibilities it's very enjoyable.
  14. Not true - I know it's a meme, and it's a media circus. Still, for anyone that cares: https://www.newsweek.com/fact-check-amber-heard-testimony-talented-mr-ripley-1704187 Newsweek can confirm, from a fact-check analysis of Heard's testimony, that she did not say the lines from the film. Some of the sentiments in her testimony contain similar language, which may have led to the rumor spreading so quickly on social media. "When I was around Johnny I felt like the most beautiful person in the world—then he would disappear," Heard said in her testimony.
  15. Nice, I honestly forgot that the GB Micro exists It's cute.
  16. Cool! I never played that. I will give Pinball Quest a good play at some point and will see how that held up.
  17. Yeah, there's certainly lots of overlap But, not quite the same thing. I think we can all agree the original Zelda is one of the best NES games and one of the most important video games of all time. Still, I do not think it held up very well, whereas Zelda II has.
  18. I was going to say, another game which is easily as fun today as when you first played it is I never played the Tengen version - is that any good? As @RH noted, puzzle games tend to hold-up well. There are of course numerous other non-puzzle games that are still super. Another game I think has held up well is Play control is quite solid. Random encounters are a pain - this is one negative, but it's got a unique level-up system. Graphics are of course top-notch, and the music is phenomenal. It has much more guidance than the original Zelda, and I think that's one reason it's still very fun. The original Zelda is one of the most important games of all time, but along with Metroid, it has not held up all that well. I recently played the original Zelda, and it's fun for a little bit - especially nostalgia wise, but it gets old. Puzzles are simplistic and repeat themselves. All you really do is go around burning bushes, getting money, randomly search for a dungeon, and repeat. Zelda II on the other hand really felt like a much more vast and developed RPG with people to interact, magic to learn, secrets to find, and unique and challenging bosses.
  19. Which NES games are still fun to play today AND WHY? I'll start - I recently played this It's actually more fun than I remember! First off, nice graphics! great sound, simple play-control. The puzzles can be quite the challenge, and even though at the time (1989) this was marketed for kids, basically like all NES games, it most definitely is not for young kids. I would say it really is appropriate for "young adults" since again, the puzzles can be very frustrating for young kids. Having not played this for a long time, I can honestly say this is a game that has aged perfectly. Truly makes you feel like you're back in the golden age of NES games!
  20. That's ridiculous. Maybe the car dealership should be sued for theft.
  21. But are you this old?? First car with AC! Can you guess it? It's the 1940 Packard
