  1. Ninja Gaiden II. I forgot this dumbass game doesn't refill your health in between the final bosses
  2. I’m happy to say I’ll soon be playing your favorite game ever… on NES.
  3. It's probably like 8/10 but I can't differentiate these games in my mind enough. I played a lot more Metal Slug 3 because of the Xbox port and Dolphin Blue at my local arcade, which isn't Metal Slug except it is.
  4. I've got the ones I was going for and have don't want to pay today's prices for the ones I don't have. I can buy ten nice CIB Zelda: ALTTPs for one CIB Super Bowling, and I don't even enjoy owning Super Bowling as much as one ALTTP. I think the price increase and gold rush on nice CIBs of common games has made owning "good stuff" more desirable. Just a few years ago, the average Super Mario Bros was $30 common junk to most collectors. Now that it has a perception of value, it might be cooler to own all-time-classic Super Mario Bros than never-even-seen-a-Youtube-video-about-it Arkista's Ring for the same price.
  5. Made in Japan is usually first. Assembled in Mexico is often (but not always) a sign of a Majesco reprint, a company that republished games often with lower quality materials. Some pricey games like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound were only made in Mexico. Even if the timeline isn't perfectly clear, like some newer games where Made in Japan and Made in USA were both available at launch, people usually prefer Made in Japan anyway.
  6. It's funny I saw an Ultima 3 review just posted complaining a bit about slogging through dungeons when a couple spells (rot/descend) completely trivialize that part of the game. Gotta use the right spells in Ultima games.
  7. 8/10, I played this like 20 years ago and used mods to do things like increase movement speed and increase the stack limit past 20. I’m a dirty cheater. I still remember it being pretty hard at the end. Neverwinter Nights kind of blew the socks off this era of the genre for me, and I don’t know if it’s ever been surpassed in sheer quantity of user mods. It’s like D&D Mario Maker.
  8. Have @Gloves make a badge for beating a 10-point game. People will do anything for internet clout.
  9. Yeah I looked at TMR’s run and he played for like 2 hours, then spent the rest of the stream learning the speedrun strategy lol. I’m going to play it for real though. As much as I love this thread, I want to check off the NES Ultima trilogy for my own ungodly gratification.
  10. Does Videodrome on ZX Spectrum count as a movie game?
  11. Drakkhen, this game is kind of cool. I used to play it with my friend as a kid and just crack up when we walked into lakes and our party exploded. As an adult who can take 2 minutes to figure out how a game works, it's pretty chill with fast progression, a map that shows POIs of the entire game, and easy auto-battles.
  12. Man I give up, lol. 20 minute game, literally all the score came from the first 20 seconds of multiball. Can’t figure out anything consistent.
  13. IIRC at least one of the previous Ultimas scaled encounters to the number of people in your party, maybe I'll try it. Most of these games are taking down notes of mantras and whatever anyway and the fighting is just a nuisance.
  14. Unless something happens after spelling SANTA, it's only worth 1M which is absurd considering how difficult/random it is to hit it. So multiball, Christmas Millions, and Sudden Death Millions (whatever those are?) seem like the strategy.
  15. 25+ Survivor game badge I like the optimism. @ZeldaFreak get crackin'.
  16. I'm considering taking one for the team and playing Ultima V next year. Anyone have tips to make it less painful? Not that the other Ultimas are painful, but in Exodus the spells Rot, Descend, and Map kind of break the game, so a party of Wizard and Clerics was cruise control. In U4 the game actually gets harder and more tedious the more you level up so leveling up is bad. Anything like that here?
  17. In the few games I've played potentially everything worth less than 1M is basically worthless (especially the bonus X lane and spinner). I can't find a better strategy than lobbing it up top and hoping for random millions from the max lane score or Christmas Millions from multiball. Hitting the double scoring drop target doesn't prevent you from getting double scoring on a Christmas spin Light Kickback might do nothing? I drained immediately out the right outlane after getting this. You might as well reset until you start multiball in your first two plunges because it isn't that hard and it's one of your only avenues for millions. If you start a game after losing, the lock won't be lit. If you reset the console, the lock starts lit. The 3 Extra Ball targets on the right are worth 100k (and a ball!) but every time I tried to control the ball on the left flipper, I eventually ended up rolling it up into the left outlane, so this also doesn't seem worth intentionally going for.
