Wow I totally forgot about this game. Huge win, this one is tough as nails.

It's not so bad as long as you manage the Green enemies that can take down the blocks. They are the only real threat. The rest of the enemies you can take your time with and play it safe running back for ammo or batteries as required. If those Green guys take out the block with your ammo or battery though you're pretty much toast. Once you get the Jump ability on floor 5 it makes the game REALLY easy though so you're basically home free at that point.

I lost the block that controls the lighting so I had to play the last couple levels in the dark which was spooky, but doesn't actually make the game any harder.

Went from feeling pretty good about Order of the Griffon to being in a super bad spot. I'm in the final dungeon with a team that is well equipped and leveled up. There was a room that was hot and you take damage for every move you make in it, no big deal I can just rest and heal. What I didn't realize was that when you load up a save that counts as a movement and you take damage. I saved after a tough fight when all my characters were still alive and just the act of loading kills one of my party members. You can't leave dungeons and the only way to revive them is back at town in the temple. So now I'm trapped in the final dungeon with only 3 party members and it's WAY harder than it should be if I had just known about the extra few damage from loading.

I bashed my head against the final boss for 3 hours yesterday trying to get a lucky enough pattern that I could win while being short a character. The one time it was maybe possible (I killed the Red Dragon early for the first time which is the most damaging part of that fight) I found a bug. They had cast hold on my fighter and in an effort to preserve his life so they didn't kill him while I waited for the spell to wear off I cast invisible on him. Apparently that combination of spells makes it so the game can't tell who's turn it is and it just cycles through the units endlessly.

That was pretty disheartening so I think I'm going to have to start the entire game over now just because of that one stupid save that cost me a team member.

Bright side is that know that I know the game fairly well it should be pretty quick and I can make sure the team I pick at the beginning is much better prepared so the last couple Dungeons should be a piece of cake.

Turns out once you know the ins and outs of Order of the Griffon its pretty dang short. Got through most of it yesterday and finished it up this morning. First playthrough was probably 12-15 hours. This time it was more like 6. Sleep and any ranged weapons are crazy overpowered in the first half of the game and Fireball or Ice Storm are super overpowered in the later half of the game. And Web is handy for some situations as well. As long as you have 2 spellcasters you can very safely clear fights very quickly. Cleric can occasionally wipe a whole screen too since there are a lot of undead enemies in this game. The final battle was SUPER easy this time with my entire party available to me.

The story also slightly deviated on my second playthrough so I'm not sure how much it can branch, but I obtained the staff required to kill the final vampire from the Order of the Griffon on this playthrough, but on my last one I had to obtain it from an old man hiding in town pretending to be senile so that no one expected him to have the staff. Pretty minor change, but a bit interesting.

Air Zonk: Defeat King Drool

Blazing Lazers: Defeat the Dark Emperor

Dungeon & Dragons: Order of the Griffon: Defeat Korizegy

Legend of Hero Tonma: Rescue the Princess

New Adventure Island: Defeat Bronsky and save Tina

Ordyne: Defeat Kubota to save Miss Kana

Sidearms: Defeat Nemesis 10

TV Sports Hockey: Take a team through the Tournament Mode

Deep Blue is done. It was a stinker of a shmup. Really frustrating at times because of your ships slow movement and some of the enemies sporadic patterns. Some luck was involved during some runs as the enemy or power up placements are slightly randomized. Bosses seemed like an after thought as you could kill them in 2 seconds as long as you had any other weapon than the starting gun.

I beat this in August.  Not sure if @RetroMichel just missed it or because I wasn't sure if one loop would count.  Dd you try the second loop?  I made a few attempts, but it seemed like the fourth stage was either impossible or required a lot of luck.  I didn't want to keep playing over and over to find out.

You definitely beat me to it, maybe because there wasn't a picture he missed it.

I checked out some video from other players and the ending is the same on a second loop with just the "NEXT" text so I'd say one loop is definitely sufficient.

The best part of the game is the end of the 2nd loop, because its a funny pun lol Deep Blue is not so bad when you realize its not a shoot em up, its an avoid em up. The art is to just survive.

Yeah those spiky balls that fall from the ceiling are so cheap in Scene D, and the amount of enemies in each wave on the second loop is brutal

Tangentially related to this thread:

I'm currently working on Neutopia and when I'm finished with it that'll be game 47 for my personal list and half of the library done!

Both it and its sequel are classic. The music is stuck in my head still all these years later. Still waiting on Neutopia 3, it'll happen one day!

Turrican is finished. Pretty neat game. Some of the stages were really cool to explore and you usually got a good reward for doing so, but some stages were just stupid. All of the bosses in this game are awful and not very fun. Would have really loved some kind of feedback when taking hits (sound, animation, knockback, flashing, literally anything would have been helpful). Curious about the other games in the series now, because this seemed like a good foundation for something that would be much better later.

My daughter ended up staying home sick yesterday so I took the day off as well. Played quite a bit of Double Dungeons as she just rested and watched movies. Beat the 17th Dungeon so just 5 more to go. I took a look at the map for the final dungeon and holy cow is it large! The game moves crazy fast though and isn't very hard  so I don't think it'll be too bad. Manual says that once I hit the next difficulty jump that you won't regain health from level ups which is extremely helpful, so depending on where the inns are located I think that'll make a pretty big difference
