What is that unknown movie that you gave a chance on a friday night rental or in the depths of the streaming world that you actually enjoyed, but youre pretty sure nobody else here has ever seen it?

If you have seen a movie mentioned please quote it and give us your opinion on it and I will keep a tally in this post of what hasnt been seen by any others so that we can maybe give them a watch.

Only one member has seen these movies:

The Breaks
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover
The Libertine
The Story of the Kelly Gang

I have mentioned this one a few times here before so someone might have followed up on it:

This was made in 1961 during the heyday of the decidedly unique swarm of peplum films.  This is a pretty good fantasy movie despite the handicaps of suffering from a limited budget and really poor dubbing.  Also a lot depends on your tolerance for Steve Reeves' acting abilities - but he was good compared to most of the actors in that genre of films.  The film's parts are certainly better than the whole and are very atmospheric a surprising number of times.  It also has what is probably the best soundtrack found in that genre of films.  Well worth tracking down if one likes fantasy films.

-----------------------------------

A secondary recommendation for an action film:

Great obscure action flick that centers on a make up/effects artist who gets caught up in a government/organized crime scheme and has to use his talents to survive.

Benefits from a really good cast and a tight script.  One of my favorites in a genre that I usually enjoy but don't really get wrapped up in.

Most likely most haven’t seen The Story of the Kelly Gang which is believed to be the first feature film ever made. I went to the National Film & Sound archive to watch it but they have generously uploaded it so you can watch it on YouTube. Only a small part of it has survived but this movie is based on true Australian history of the Kelly gang.

neither of these are insanely obscure but i definitely never see them mentioned.

The Breaks (1999)

would love to know if more people have seen this. anybody i've mentioned this to gets a blank look on their face.

Top Secret! (1984)

parody movie starring Val Kilmer. i love this one.

Own that as well.  Pretty good for an occasional watch.  Never saw the sequel.

The sequel blew chunks - just didn't have the tautness/peril of the first one.  There was a two season tv series out of Canada that was based before the events of the first movie that wasn't bad - a bit underfunded but it captured the spirit of the first movie pretty well.

I have Top Secret on laserdisc -not a bad movie by any stretch - didn't see the other one.

I've never heard of The Breaks, but Top Secret has a couple of absolutely hilarious scenes, so I'd definitely recommend that one!

One of my favorite movies of all time is an incredibly mainstream title that I doubt many on VGS have seen. I would highly recommend anyone to watch it - it's just so simple and heartwarming. The soundtrack is excellent as well.

Winnie the Pooh [2011 - Stephen Anderson and Don Hall]

Whoa - do I win a prize for picking a movie Reed “the walking film encyclopedia” Rothchild hasn’t watched? That’s almost as difficult as finding a movie @Gloves HAS seen haha.

Joking aside, though - it’s worth your time. (I'm currently watching Parks & Recreation off your recommendation from a different thread, and it's fantastic.)

My work here is done.  That's the only thing that matters.  Spreading the gospel of Jeremy Jamm.

Seen The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover but it was about 20 years ago so honestly I don't remember much, also watched El Topo around that time and really liked it, to be fair all Jodorowsky films are good, I'd say Santa Sangre is my favorite.

One if my favorite films of all time is 24 Hour Party People, love the story, the music, the characters, the humor, it's really great but I don't think many people have seen it.

This one is pretty obscure and likely would not have much appeal to people much younger than myself since it is so specific to a time and place that has for all intents and purposes vanished.  As a weird cultural artifact is has a certain charm since it's miieu  is so foreign in a lot of ways.

It is set in the height of the hippie era in Haight Ashbury - the only non-documentary movie set there that I am aware of.   One of the scenes is set in a free store run by the Diggers - a group that  is hard to find any substantive information on.

It also really amusing to see Susan Strasberg, Bruce Dern, Dean Stockwell and Jack Nicholson very early in their careers as hippies.

"The Strawberry Statement" is another film from my wayward youth.  It was part of a fairly large body of films about youth/student protests in the late sixties to early seventies. This was one of the better ones since it was one of the few to be backed by a major studio - which also meant it had a first rate soundtrack.  It should have some appeal to anyone who likes music from that time period.

Here are a couple of stronger cuts from the soundtrack:
