This actually could end the internet as we know it?

Anyone concerned about Section 230 being repealed? It protects websites from legal liability for hosted content. If it is repealed then you could say goodbye to sites allowing any user submitted content in order to avoid lawsuits. At least all user content would be heavily controlled and censored.

If you read that article, and many others, the general consensus is that they don't expect Section 230 to be completely revoked or repealed, but rather amended or changed some.  Not to minimize the issue, but I don't think we are nearing some catastrophic end to the internet.  Nevertheless, it's good to be informed and up-to-date, and share opinions when needed, on this or any issue.

I'm just concerned because Trump is threatening to veto a defense bill unless 230 is repealed.

I know this isn’t the politics section so sorry but imagine a president that is more concerned with getting back at the internet because of all of the mean things about him that are on it than he is mitigating the effect of the pandemic here in the US.

Wasn't the internet created to hide from the government and get away from propaganda in the first place??

Are you from an alternate reality where the internet wasn't created by the government in the first place? 😛

Don’t make the Googles mad.  Didn’t they purchase a military grade killer robot manufacturer some years back?

The whole intent of this is to get back at big tech for their coverage on the Trump administration. It’s supposed to be a scare tactic to try to get big companies like Twitter and Facebook to compromise.

Now how it’s going to be used in years to come is going to be a slippery slope.

Nope. It was created for porn. Which VGS is guilty of when it comes to "video game variety" porn. 😜

They're already censoring people so what difference does it make?

Well I saw a lot of censoring when it came to the news / last elections, then there's all the companies kowtowing to China , the internet certainly doesn't feel as free as it used to be.
