I like this game, but it's way too long.

Absolutely! I've just been trying to play through this game, but starting with level 4 the levels become obscenely long and it gets painfully boring after a while. It doesn't help either that the bosses become total damage sponges.

It's a good game at its core, but yeah, it gets painfully repetitive. Just got my first game over at the level 5 boss and I have no interest anymore in continuing. So I think it was a wise decision to limit the scope of this week's challenge.

Too bad though. I wish i could have beaten this game for me personally as I keep list of all the NES games that I've beaten.

I have beaten TMNT3 but I haven't gone back to it.

TMNT2 is shorter and IMO plays at a better pace because you can quickly kill most enemies in one hit with your special attack. That's why I prefer TMNT2 even though both are good.

I agree.  I love both games, but I remember some of the later levels in TMNT 3 have some enemies that take way too many hits, and it starts to get a bit tedious.

TMNT 2 and 3 are both great games, but TMNT 4 took it to a whole new level.

Ok I sure as shit didn’t miss the pause this time.

92,500 + 20,000 + (5 x 500) = 115,000

People better be making sure they are NOT getting the stage clear bonus or counting an extra life you may get at the end of stage 2!

Yeah, I immediately pause so that Groundchuck is in picture. I hope people aren't waiting to get the extra points from beating him.

The extra points are added when the door starts to open. I can see and invalidate the score.
The rules have also been covering that.

I’m digging the shorter runs version of the weekly contest, even though there will still be those who are miles ahead, I think it puts us on more level ground. Play till the first/second level and post up your score. Takes 10 minutes to do a run instead of hours. I dig it

I do hope that we get to play all of Gyruss and Adventure Island, or at least as far as we can get, even though they're long. I think they're worth it. Making AI be a one life contest should cut down on run length for a lot of players anyway.

For Kickle we could use a password to start at a later world like with Burai Fighter. I wouldn't actually mind that at all

I barely made it to level 8 on a single continue for the first time and got to Shredder on my second continue, but failed pretty miserably and am a little discouraged to try again, because level 8 is just too damn long. On top of that there are limited continues which is really discouraging. Though I would like to finish this one for my personal backlog.

I died on stage 4 because spamming the special when I was down to 1 life brick stopped working on all my lives. Not sure if it was Analogue related or the 8bitdo controller but it also wasn’t working on subsequent lives during the boss battle.

What do you mean that it stopped working? Like your special wasn't damaging enemies anymore or what?

I would hit a + b and the turtle would just throw a normal attack. Could have been a timing thing as well I guess but it’s kind of hard to miss pressing them together

I do the move by tapping A and then B in quick succession rather than simultaneously, just like in TMNT2. I have my index and middle fingers on the buttons when I do it.

Picture isn't showing up for me. 😞

I remember seeing it last Sunday, so I will temporarily accept your score. Will be nice if you can try to post the picture again.

I ended up just completing the entire game instead of stopping for the contest, lol.

So did I. I wasn't going to have time to work on a decent contest score, so I figured I might as well enjoy the full game.

Final standings posted.
I would have loved to just let people go as far as they can, but this game is entirely too long so I had to come up with a ruleset that would allow for fast attempts.

If TMNT2 shows up, I may adapt these rules to use there, but allowing for going for longer, or maybe starting at a later stage using a cheat code.
