I remember doing that long trading sequence in the original (without a guide, no less!) and I recalled that it always starts with Yoshi doll. Seeing that it was a plushie and knowing that you are also a handheld guide, I knew right away this was the Link’s Awakening Remake. I've never played any of those games, but I've seen some screencaps you guys have posted. I guess that's my guess--Shin Megami Tensei, but it could certainly be any game in the franchise from the PS1 era, or maybe on a handheld, considering that those polys look a bit jaggy.
