Very cool movie. Probably an inspiration to some Hollywood movies such as the Hunger Games. Trademark Japanese crazy plot mixed with hardcore violence.

this used to be one of my favorite movies. that was a long time ago. i still like it, but it's now been years since i watched it. i threw it an 8 for old times' sake.

Went with an 8. I’ve watched this a few times and enjoyed it every time. Definitely something everyone should watch if they haven’t. Even Gloves has seen it! 

I call BS on the hunger games author not knowing about this book/movie before writing hunger games though.

I don't know if I've seen this film the whole way through, but I had to read the book in a college course and found it highly disturbing.

I never had a problem with violence in media before reading Battle Royale, but I felt the story was so devoid of meaningful motivation behind the slaughter that it really upset me. And later learning that this was part of a broader genre based on "killing games" was unsettling to say the least.

Give me some meaningfully-conceived impetus for violent content, and I'll take no issue. But this felt ... (and I mean no offense to the Battle Royale fans here) ... juvenile, and it made me concerned for the author's mental health. 

The only other piece of media I've consumed in my adult life that left me with this same feeling was Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.
