  1. I prefer Golden Axe Warrior to any Zelda game outside of maybe Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. One of these days I will grab a copy of Neutopia to go along with my copy of Neutopia II so I can give those a try.
  2. My first arcade co-op was probably Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I had a best friend and a damn-near best friend and one of them (or both) would probably be the first person I played it with. We also played quite a bit of The Simpsons and NBA Jam and a little bit of X-Men. On the home console it would be 7800 Asteroids. The partner would have been my sister or a cousin most likely. The first person I definitely remember playing it with me is my father. My best friend and I played quite a bit of co-op games on the home consoles. Favorites include Wizard of Wor and Double Dragon on the 2600, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game on NES, and Raiden and DOOM (via Jaglink!) on the Jaguar. The last time would have been with my brother-in-law (the aforementioned best friend) and his two sons a couple of years back. We played TMNT 1989 and X-Men on Xbox 360. There is a chance the last time was Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure with two comlynxed Lynxes with my wife.
  3. Of course the offers could have been from Deniz and Jim themselves. The "offers" really existed. Now if another copy of the same game ends up going for much less and the seller decides to take one of those offers there is nothing stopping whoever made the offers to go through with the sale. So WATA can say whatever they want about the offers as long as they were "made" by someone. Of course that someone is under no obligation to go through with the purchase once the game is done with its turn on Pawn Stars.
  4. I never really thought about this being something Deniz should not have done. On one hand if whoever made the private offer confided in Deniz and told him not to make it public then Deniz should have honored that. On the other hand if wanting to keep the offer secret was not explicitly conveyed to Deniz I am not sure he has an obligation to keep it secret. Edit-Of course these private offers having not actually having money change hands could be said to be pointless in assigning value since just because an offer has been made it does not mean the potential buyer would go through with the purchase. Those offers also could have been "shill" offers just to help artificially increase the number on the value estimate.
  5. This topic got way out of hand for me to keep up. Between my job, my two kids, and my house I do not have the time to read through 25 pages to stay abreast of this topic.
  6. I remember when Tim Atwood got banned at NintendoAge and went over to AtariAge and revived his login that had been dormant for 15 years. I was surprised he even remembered he had an account over there.
  7. I have never had anything graded. I am not even a sealed collector. I used to be, but about 15 years ago after having a hard time finding an open box 7800 Commando (great port btw) I decided to crack open my sealed copy and I never looked back. I am still interested in if you have a problem with Deniz appraising the value of games.
  8. Can the main defenders of WATA here (vb337, ExplodedHamster, Gulag Joe, B.A. etc.) answer if they think Deniz valuing games is ethical? I think that is the question I would most like answered from the other side. The answer to this question would probably help me see where exactly our biggest divide is.
  9. If popularity is the driving force for collectibles then why is the most expensive card of a baseball player nobody alive has seen play? Shouldn't it be a Jordan or James card? I cannot comment on Pokemon or Turtles (as in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?), but comics also does not follow this perfectly. Spider-Man is by far more popular than Superman, but Action Comics #1 is number one. One of the two main reasons is its rarity. It seems video games is an outlier where popularity (or opportunity for more exploitation) trumps rarity. Trumps it by an order of magnitude at that.
  10. Has WATA and Heritage Auctions made the news with copies of Stadium Events, Little Samson, or The Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak? All the games that have broke these records have been common mass produced games. Sure some have been rarer variants, but all the games have been common. This to me points to manipulation. If they make the news for a $2,000,000 Stadium Events they do not make any more money outside of that one copy. There are no more sealed copies for people to send in. They make the news with a Super Mario 64 or a Legend of Zelda then every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a sealed copy of those (of which there are still plenty out there) send in their copy of those games and they pay for them to be graded at a value of what just sold (taking into account condition and variant). And remember WATA charges based on the value of the game.
  11. The biggest problem is that his company makes more money the more value a game has. They charge extra to grade and slab more valuable games. I personally do not understand how the value of the game being graded factors into how much it costs to grade that game. Anytime he values a game above the current market value his company makes more money. That is a huge conflict of interest.
  12. There is a difference here. Pat went on Pawn Stars to show off his game. Deniz went on Pawn Stars as an "expert" to assign a value. As I recall from the video he assigned a value higher than what had ever been payed. Whatever the case, he had a vested interest in setting the value as high as he could. Not setting an accurate one. If you cannot see the difference there then you really do not understand this topic.
  13. I did have the 7800 before the NES, and one could consider finishing a race on Pole Position II finishing it. I do not recall if I ever finished Suzuka (I am 90% sure I did), but I finished Test, Fuji, and Seaside lots of times.
  14. Sonic Fury on Action Max? Maybe The Rescue of Pops Ghostly or .38 Ambush Alley. If you mean something that took more than making it to the end of a VHS tape, then probably Super Mario Bros.
  15. This kind of makes me want to play through Order of the Griffon again, but this time with my new TurboBooster-Plus! I am in the middle of playing through the Master System and Genesis Phantasy Star games and Morrowind right now, so adding another rpg would be a lot. If it still has not been beat in a few months I will probably reconsider.
  16. The Sega CD was the only system I ever used to play audio cds. I mean technically the Jaguar CD too, but that was really just to check out the Jaguar CD's Virtual Light Machine. The VLM was neat, but not neat enough to make me use it as a cd player. I probably could not even tell the difference between the best system and worst system unless there is some screeching sound or something.
  17. I cannot think of a single manual that jumps out at me as being my favorite. I would think one of the NES Dragon Warriors, but none are really coming to the forefront of my memories. I do remember going through some of the guides for those, but no the manuals. I was going through all my Jaguar games recently, putting them in protectors and going through the manuals to try to find a couple of misplaced overlays, and I noticed my Alien vs. Predator manual is rough. Now I love this game and have played it a bunch, but it looks like I went through that manual hundreds of times. So I guess I will go with Jaguar Alien vs. Predator as my number one manual. I really feel there should be at least one manual that I remember from back then, but nope.
  18. A five for me. I remember when it came out, although I had a Genesis instead of a Super NES, there was plenty of hype, but I never understood what the fuss was about. About ten to fifteen years ago I played through the whole game with my wife two player and I have had no desire to go back to it since. I have never played either sequel outside of testing a cartridge out to see if it works. Although even at a five it would still make my top ten Super NES games. Of course I have only actually played through six or seven Super NES games. I do have plenty of Super NES games on my to play list though.
  19. Dragon Warrior is one of those games that I remember exactly how I got it. For my 10th birthday in 1990, my father got me two Nintendo Entertainment System games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dragon Warrior. I do not remember if my friends and I thought that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was going to be a port of the arcade game or if we already knew better. Either way it was the big hit at the birthday party that we played quite a bit. We did try Dragon Warrior briefly, but nobody wanted to continue to play it over Turtles. I remember my father telling me that the salesman said Dragon Warrior was the hot new game. I am betting that they were having trouble moving the game and were doing whatever they could to get some sales. Whatever the reason I am glad he convinced my father to buy it. I of course did give Dragon Warrior a chance pretty soon after, along with my older sister, and really got into it. It is the only game my sister ever played (she is five years older than me). When Dragon Warrior II came out I rented it multiple times before finally getting my own copy as soon as I could get somebody to buy it for me. Dragon Warrior is one of those games that had an immediate impact (well not birthday party immediate) and has stayed a favorite.
  20. Perfect 10. My favorite NES game of all-time.
  21. I gave both the 2600 and 7800 (due to backwards compatibility) a 10. My next systems would be NES, Genesis, and Jaguar. It is a tough choice, but right now I will go with the Genesis. I have been on a Genesis kick lately, playing through all the Phantasy Star games right now.
  22. I cannot recall many from my childhood. One I for sure can recall is playing Alien vs. Predator on the Jaguar, but that also has to do with the game being fairly suspenseful. As adult I remember being pumped when I finally finished Pitfall! on the 2600 for the first time. Not a perfect run, but just getting all 32 treasures. I also remember in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn when I won the battle with the Twisted Rune. I had won the battle a few times, but at great cost. Either party member deaths or maybe some level drains that were not reversible. It has been a while. I finally did it without losing one single hit point. I had to use two very rare Protection from Magic scrolls, but I didi it.
