Ugh yes Doom 3.  Biggest mistake of the franchise.  I've always considered Doom 64 Doom 3, still do, and did before Doom 3 existed.  Just was convenient how not great Doom 3 was to validate my feelings. 🙂

This is not the first time I have heard people be negative about Doom 3. Not a Doom fan so I haven't played it, but have seen gameplay and can't recall thinking it looked much difference in scope to the others. Was it just not as hectic as the others? I recall it looking like Doom was in the Halo franchise, but thought that may have been the natural graphic evolution of the Doom franchise.

Is there any record or place that shows how long each game is time wise? I know of howlongtobeat.com or whatever it is. But they never had even a good chunk of games listed when I looked.

I think it might be good to use this year (if everyone can give a pretty good estimate of each game they played) or next year to determine about how long it takes to beat the games. Maybe even contribute to the how long to beat website. Then develop the point system from there

The only point system that makes sense to me is one based on time to beat a game

gamefaqs has game length info from user reviews, but I have found it to be WAY off on the long side. Using this year for a game length reference would make alot of sense if we needed that information to rescale the points. Also, taking a poll asking game length from those that have played them over the years could garner fairly accurate results

  4. A man comes home from work and finds a note his wife placed on his NES. The note says: "I knew you'd see this note on your Nintendo. All you do is come home and play your video games. It's JUST NOT WORKING FOR ME ANYMORE!"

    Spoiler

The man shaking his head says, "I've told her time and time again, but she just doesn't listen: Clean the pins, and the game will fire right up."

  5. I would think something similar to NES would be ideal. The goal is obviously to incentivize the community to beat the library and ours may not be doing that to the fullest. I usually beat alot of sports games each year and having most sports titles that can usually be beaten within an hour give the same points or more than the rpgs/rts/crap superman-like games doesn't make much sense imo.

  6. I sold all of my boxed cartridge games which was most of my higher-end stuff during the covid craze, and I knew if I ever rebought, it would be cartridge only. Time will tell if there will be regrets, but the days of the wild have been pretty well gone for years, and online sellers either can't protect their stuff in shipping or try to pass off counterfeits. It has been nice not having the frustrating crushed box come in the mail because the seller is a moron and sent it in a bubble mailer even though you told him you would pay extra if that's what it would take to send well-protected in a box....oh, also eff the WATA grading craze....Rant over.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NES carts seemed to have plateaud, and if that is the case, starting things off with a large ebay commons lot could reignite the collecting fire.

It was actually done one year. But I don’t know if the point system was implemented yet or if it was even on here. Might have been the last year full year of NA’s existence that it was finished. Im pretty sure @Splainwas in charge of it then and I wanna say @Nugfishdid most of the work that year

I was more of a collector than a gamer in those years. I maybe beat a couple games for the NES/N64 threads, but not many. I decided to sell off alot of my collection and focus on actually playing the games I had once the NA dumpsterfire went down. I was zfleming54 on NA
