There’s a similar thread on the cgc forums and bronty is (indirectly)requesting them to close the thread down. Why is everyone so in love with censorship these days?

Boy, I actually went over there and read a little bit of the back and forth. You have people actually defending Mark Haspel! Haven't seen that here yet.

    • Wow! 2
  2. What all these individuals, including bronty, have in common is that they would not recuse themselves from the service out of either arrogance and or greed. Certainly took a few years but what happens in the dark will surely come to light.

I mean he's publicly connected because his name was included as a member of the wata advisory board at one time. Then he sold his copy of smb for a $100k to Jim Halperin.

I think he would do himself better service by being quite a bit more concise, and also by limiting the discussion points to the more concrete items and less speculative ones.  One can make many assumptions about someone else not having a LinkedIn account, but trying to tie to everything and prove reasoning, is a big stretch in my opinion that can't really be proven, and that merely serves as a distraction.  Just like with Karl's video, any time there are little 'pieces' of your reporting that can be challenged, it can actually serve to lessen the impact of your report.

I have a hard time following these 'Proof' articles because they are quite lengthy, and almost seem desperate and reaching - even if some of the items contained within are legitimate, they can almost be overshadowed by the immense amount of speculation, stretching, and insinuation.

I'm not saying he's wrong about all the allegations, but these reports seem almost written intentionally to be as dramatic as possible.

Yes these articles are hard to read. I feel like I'm reading an old time news bulletin! 🤣

I started scanning it for about 20 seconds but then stopped once I got to the part where jeff from go collect said he didn't buy the cc to make a profit. I just had lunch and didn't wish to vomit all over my desk.

Oops sorry, I was referring to the old archives thread @Alderposted.

That original NA topic should be read and categorized for future reference.  Also when I logged into yahoo I see this article.  Again, just more money hype.

"It's always amazing to me how some of the most worthless games from a gaming perspective tend to fetch outrageous amounts of money. But then again, it could be said that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'm curious if the high bidder of the $873.04 Stadium Events (cart-only) realizes that it's nowhere nearly as rare as about 20+ games I can think of that sell for 1/10th that amount?  At any rate, I wanted to draw attention to this trend: if people say it's rare, it must be true, and therefore it must be had at any price."

I get people are still upset about the NA transition and all that, and hey, some legitimate complaints there.

However, I actually do think it's a bit unfair to lump him in (in terms of equal perception) with all the other individuals highlighted in the video.  Personally, I think his name and likeness was used mainly just to promote the legitimacy and experience of WATA - and if anything, I think the company used this longer than was appropriate, whether intentional or not.  Regardless of earlier timelines and his potential involvement, I've not seen any real indication that he was meaningfully involved with WATA or Heritage, especially as it pertains to the allegations of manipulation.

I actually would be curious to get his thoughts on everything, like the questions Cody asked for example, but I also understand someone just wanting to get away from all this nonsense and not dig in deeper.

Also, of all the allegations discussed, the biggest crime of all, is clearly the case design for N64 titles as @Gloves pointed out.  I mean, that is just dastardly!  🙂 In seriousness though, I do think that was a really strange choice and makes no sense to me personally as how one would display it.  Oh well, haha 🤷‍♂️

Well here's the thing though. At one point he was part, or perceived to be part of wata (his picture, profile and title at wata were originally posted on their site). Lay with dogs, you get fleas.

Actually, NCI (Halperin's grading company) was basically destroyed. If the FTC comes down on Wata is will do major damage to them in the broader market. Especially from investors who bought Wata graded games who may have grounds to sue.

Well whatever happens, thanks for digging and fighting the good fight. Some people here felt that watas plan all along was to do whatever it took to grow the company as quickly as possible and sell it. So with it being sold I just wonder how much accountability the original owners will have in regards to any penalty.

@AdamWI know you were hung up the fraud aspect so let me give you some more concrete info.

https://www.watagames.com/learn/blog/post/the-carolina-collection/ Here Wata endorses and promotes the sale of the Carolina Collection. This counts as an endorsement of a product as per FTC guideliness. The FTC has rules in relation to misleading advertisements, and there is a specific statute that is relevant here.

https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/files/attachments/press-releases/ftc-publishes-final-guides-governing-endorsements-testimonials/091005revisedendorsementguides.pdf Statute 255.5 Disclosure of material connections. When there exists a connection between the endorser (Wata) and the seller (Jeff Meyer) of the advertised product that might materially affect the weight or credibility of the endorsement (i.e., the connection is not reasonably expected by the audience), such connection must be fully disclosed.

The connection is that Jeff Meyer is a Director of Wata games. So not only did Jeff grade his entire collection, and flip it through Heritage auctions as a Director (this needs to be investigated), but also used Wata to advertise his collection without disclosing the relationship which broke FTC guidelines in relation to a misleading endorsement.

I believe as soon as the FTC investigates this (which they will), Wata will be facing a fine here.

It's a shame that end of the day, if all they end up with is a slap on the wrist fine it was probably still worth it for them. Halperin already went through that drill with the coin grading company. He paid his fine, and still became rich. It's good to expose these guys for the crooks that they are though. But ultimately, I feel as though the reward for them will outweigh the penalties they incur.

I didn't say you were harsh, just incredibly, incessantly meticulous, to the point of being pedantic at times, lol.  You absolutely deserve a gold medal if/when forum argument thoroughness gets recognized by the Olympics.  😜

    He's definitely a mastur-debator.
