This is probably a 6/10. The mix of Celtic folk and metal should be more dynamic than this. It's ruined by modern production and compression.  Maybe the songwriting isn't that great either.

Nope. 2/10

Was going OK until the dude jumped in with that terrible vocals. I hate that what the general public thinks of when they hear the term Metal Music is vocals like this. It comes off as "Look how extreme and hardcore I am!! So METALLLL!" Except it's not, it's just bad vocals, and try-hardism.

That's what I gave them. It's not bad, but it seems like they have potential to be better.

I mean, listen to Fade to Black by Metallica. It's dynamic. There's real contrast between the softer and heavier parts and it's emotional and interesting to listen to. It's also strong songwriting that builds to a climax.

This stuff falls flat. Part of it is the modern production. When it's all so slick and compressed there's zero impact from anything.

I agree, but in all fairness, nothing sounds as good as Metallica.

Love these guys.  Their regular metal releases are phenomenal and the acoustic albums are fantastic as well.  Really great chilling out music.  Eluveitie are one of the biggest names in the folk metal genre and for good reason.  So many bands are a pale imitation of their sound.   9.

So I don’t know what @mbd39is on about.  He only kind of likes it because he only likes stuff with shitty production?  Like Metallica? Are you a black metal guy?  If you want something less polished their first album Spirit is probably still my favorite.

It's modern production where everything sounds overly compressed so that there are zero dynamics that sounds shitty to me. Metallica has shitty production now. They didn't in the early 80s.

Yeah that’s what I said.   Listen I’ve got a demo disc Somewhere recorded on a cheapo 4 track from like ‘04 that was recorded in my buddy’s ghetto apt you might like.  It’s called Stinky Mouth Face.

Slania is a stone-cold classic.  I remember when it came out and my immediate reaction was "this is Dark Tranquillity with violin."

Which is a good thing.

The opener is probably my favorite song of theirs

@Reed Rothchild agreed.  Never thought of them as DT with violin before but I can definitely see that.  Slania is absolutely a cornerstone album.  
My go to track has to be...

That crushing foot pounding groove would totally get my hair whipping if any of it were still on my head.

I was way into Finntroll’s earlier albums but they kind of fell off my radar after a while.  Don’t know if you’re familiar with the Visor Om Slutet EP but it’s worth a listen especially if you’ve got some bud on hand.

I don't like metal but I think I would if it wasn't for the horrendous screaming vocals because I like the music portion.
