Does anyone know? I was planning on making a big event out of the Friday release and taking the day off work but now I realize the Switch version won't be available until later this year. Has any communication been released about the timing?

I think December was the release date on Best Buy

Edit: GameStop has it as 12/31/30 as of now https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/switch/games/products/doom-eternal/10178671.html

Man, we gotta wait ten years? fuck...

12/31 is a placeholder, when you see that it really means “TBD”

Don't hold me to it but I thought awhile back some people moaned enough shortly after the delay notice and it was like summer I think was being thrown around as Panic Button needed more time with the finished product to deliver the best performance.  I'm disappointed as I was going to pre-order it which I never do, just so I could get a digital copy of Doom 64 with that added episode as that game is still a favorite of mine on there.  The up side, Animal Crossing doesn't share the release date or same day $ to pick that up at least.

I just ran thru Doom on the switch.  I thought it was great.  I didn't encounter any problems aside from it being a bit awkward with a switch light.  But if you have a pro controller should be fine.

I was reading a review Doom Eternal yesterday and it was not good at all.

I wish I could scold this person personally.  So he didn't like the game because you get thrust into it without really knowing the story?  Is that what I got out of it?  Yknow when they made Doom 1, they ripped all that stuff out because and I quote John Carmack "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie.  It's expected to be there, but it's not that important".  Which is why the entire motivation of Doom guy was because his rabbit was killed.  Come the F on.  Doom is about 3 things.  A driving, heavy metal soundtrack, skilled movement/combat and violence.  If it has 3 of those, then the game is a hit.  If you want a story go play Chrono Trigger, jesus.

The article read to me as though the author was not a big fan of Doom.  There is nothing wrong with not liking Doom (it's certainly not for everyone), but if you aren't a fan of Doom, then your opinion of Doom Eternal is pretty much meaningless to me.

Yeah, an opinion based on the game's story and world building should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

That said, if the game does try to push storytelling too hard on to the player, I can see it as a strike against it. If the gameplay is fun though, I won't care too much.

I think thats the point.  They just wanted to concentrate on the actual gaming experience and making it even better since the previous one was so successful.  So the point of this one is game play, skilled movement, and using your whole weapon arsenal against tons of varied and skilled demons.

Although, to be fair, there are lots of compromises and changes in the Switch version which are what allow it to run smoothly.  All things considered, I think it's pretty impressive what they were able to accomplish with the Switch version.

What's compromised?

The visuals mainly.  There are lots of side by side comparisons out there to look at.  But it shouldn't come as a surprise that it had to be downgraded to run well on the Switch.  But I would bet that nearly all would agree that it's worth it to play Doom on the go.

That said is it that hard to part with $5.  Sure 1.50 is nice, but I mean, in most states $5 won't even get you a value meal menu item at McDonalds anymore.  I'm sure playing space marine will last longer than their cheeseburger meal, unless you leave it under the seat, then maybe you have competition.
