Hearing you tell your version, that could well have been my grandpa lol. You sure you weren't in Oshawa Ontario when this released? 😛

No, it was close to Atlanta. I'm pretty sure it wasn't you and  your Grand Dad. 😛

My comparison was with the modern state of Hollywood film-making, not the content of Tolkien's works.  I really don't know how that could have flown over your head...

So which films are checking boxes and forcing political themes? Just curious what specific examples you have.

I have to give this one a 10.  And honestly, it's hard for me to delineate them and rate them separately.  The trilogy as a whole, is just a 10 for me.  That isn't to say it is 'perfect,' but it is an amazing adaptation of a wonderful story, and they did such a great job with it.

I really felt engaged with the films, and no problem watching the extended versions.  It has been a long time since I've watched them, maybe I'm due for a re-visit.

All in all, highly recommend and it is a fantastic series of movies, IMO.
