If you are trying to say Phantom is derivative, yes, I agree. 

Yes... but Halloween didn't use characters that are direct "influences" from many  the giallos and reference them multiple times throughout the film with different "genres".... did it? 

I'm just shocked you are saying that this film isn't influenced by/paying homage to/parodying Phantom of the Opera when it has literally taken the main character (Phantom of the Opera) and substituted it for its own (Phantom of the Paradise).... It's a DIRECT ripoff    ...... 

Anyways, I'll report back after I've seen the movie and and ask some other ppl I know who know more about the subject.

We're talking in circles here for very silly reasons. 

1. It's 70s rock musical ala Rocky Horror. 
2. It's a rock n roll take on Phantom of the Opera.

Also even in the 70s and 80s both Siskel and Ebert would complain about how many shitty sequels, remakes and other shitty movies were being made. Not realizing how good they had it.
