I have a wife and 4 daughters, yes 4, you read that right. So being on lockdown, all couped up together in our house, working from home, with the kids' school and activities cancelled for the foreseeable future, I sometimes find myself yearning to escape into the world of vidyagames. Well, that and thankfully my good pal Johnnie Walker is there to keep me company in the evenings, so thus far my sanity has been maintained. I love my girls, but sometimes daddy needs a break. 😉 But being on the lo
After hitting up an arcade for the first time in ages recently, and enjoying the heck out of their racing games, I became nostalgic for an old Sega arcade from when I was a kid called Rad Mobile. I haven't come across the game since the early 90s, but I loved it back then and it has stayed with me in my gaming memories over the years. Well, after doing a little research, I discovered that the game was ported to the Saturn as a Japan exclusive release called Gale Racer. Well, spit! I quickly hit
A buddy of mine picked this one up recently and was talking to me about it, asking some questions because he was having a tough time with it. Now I've had a copy for at least a decade and probably hadn't played it in about half that time, so I decided to fire it up for a refresher. Playing through the game took me a while, and a couple of tries, and when I finally made it to the boss in the Skynet level, I ended up burning through all of my continues and almost all of my lives before I finally b

Starting with the original XBOX, I became much more heavily investing the video game industry and was a loyal reader of several gaming magazines at the time, one of which was Official XBOX Magazine. When the XBOX 360 released, the magazine underwent a redesign as it moved to covering the new generation of games and one thing they added was a two-page game spotlight at the front of the magazine to show off screenshots
The Ren & Stimpy Show really came out of nowhere. At the time, kids TV network Nickelodeon decided to create some original cartoons they called Nicktoons. The first three Nicktoons were Doug, Rugrats, and The Ren & Stimpy Show. We were a Nickelodeon household and I watched those three shows a lot as a kid. Of the three, though, Ren & Stimpy was the one I was least interested in. Maybe that says something about me as a person, I don't know. For Nickelodeon, Ren & Stimpy was

Short review: An early port of a quarter munching arcade game where you play as a soldier who must infiltrate the most heavily guarded base of all time. It is one of the hardest games on the NES.

It's another basketball game! This one though has a little bit of pedigree as it seems to be the inspiration or prototype for NBA Jam, which I think is still one of the most fondly remembered basketball games. I don't play many sports games but I did play a lot of NBA Jam. This was a pretty fun game, but it is lacking a little in substance and not one I think I'll go back to.

Today I am covering a game that I was very excited to try out and see what it was about. I read about and saw pictures of The Magic of Scheherazade in old gaming magazines I had growing up. It seemed interesting but the game never crossed my path so I never got to try it out. I was expecting the game to be somewhat like a Zelda clone, and I guess in some ways that's true. The game definitely has more to it than meets the eye. Put it all together and this is a pretty neat NES game that often
Wheel of Fortune has become one of the longest running game shows of all time that is still incredibly popular. You can find it on TV at its normal timeslot like clockwork. It's nice to have a least a little stability in our lives! It was popular enough during the NES lifespan that there were four different Wheel of Fortune games. Most of them don't distinguish themselves in any meaningful way, but since this is the first one in the series and first one I've played for this project, this gam

Snake Rattle N Roll is a game that intrigued me from the beginning. I randomly bought a copy of the game knowing that it was something fun. I have a sort of fondness for isometric games, such as Solstice, Equinox, and Super Mario RPG. Before real 3D rendering, especially on console, this was the best we got for these kinds of games. These games do suffer from perspective issues and no depth perception, but under the right conditions they can be fun. I had a really good time with Snake Rattl

Kalisto Entertainment/Ubisoft PS2, XBOX, GC
2002 - 2004
Released for the original PlayStation console and PCs in 1997, with a Nintendo 64 port a year later, the original Nightmare Creatures was a remarkable survival-horror release for Kalisto Entertainment. Up to that point the developers hadn't put out anything particularly remarkable in the few years they had been active, but Nightmare Creatures brought them a great deal of attention.
This is my first time promoting one on these on VGS! This was a long, time consuming thing to put together, but I like how these turn out in the end. I had the idea at the start of this project to do an awards show type of post where I go over every game played in the prior year and assign them to a bunch of categories. It's a fun way to go back over some neat (and sometimes frustrating) things that happen as sort of a "best of" of the year. These articles of mine get bigger and bigger every

2002-2003
Released the prior holiday season in Japan and North America, the Nintendo GameCube had found itself struggling in 2002 to grab market share from the juggernaut PlayStation 2 and the new kid in the market, Microsoft's XBOX. Although the console launched with a solid lineup during it's first few months, delivering fantastic titles like Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee, these titles were seemingly not enough to propel the GameC
