Hey everyone. I realize most of you guys wont know me, but I want to say this anyway. Today I beat the final game I needed to beat in order to finish every single licensed NES game all on original hardware with no cheats. I started this on October 8th 2011 and it took me until today to finally complete this challenge. Nintendoage, and subsequently videogamesage, was a HUGE part of my collecting and playing journey that's why I wanted to start this thread.

When I started this endeavor I didn't quite grasp how monumental it would be. Nintendoage was such a crucial resource for me completing my collection, figuring out win conditions, asking other forum members for help, deciding which games to play next, and just helping me stay motivated and encouraged. I was kind of crushed when I went to login one day and it didn't exist anymore. I'm so thankful the spirit of that place lives on here at videogamesage.

And I need to give a massive thank you to @scaryicefor running the "can Nintendoage/videogamesage beat every NES game in 20xx" threads for the past decade. Those threads and the data he's been keeping on them are treasure troves of NES information, they are a fantastic community building challenge, and just a lot of fun to be a part of. I've only really spent time in that one thread since videogamesage started, but that's been enough for me. Every member that posts in there has been nothing but supportive and encouraging from going out of their way to send me tips and advice, asking me questions about my progress, virtual high fives when hitting big milestones and loads of fun banter about games that no one else cares about.

Thanks everybody for helping me achieve this goal of mine. It means a lot.

    Kelsy

If you finished Ikari Warriors with only the credits they give you you should've recorded that because almost nobody has succeeded.

Personally i wouldn't have those big WON signs on top of the cabinets like that as it isn't just any "furniture" but a collectible init's own right and they weigh a solid 30 kg or whatever. Just putting it out there.

I hate them and I have a few. I have the box for my (newly purchased) Pikachu VHS Player, as well as a number of First4Figures boxes.

Why do you hate them? I think they are on the same "side" as boxed games in general, integrated in a way. Altough like i said if i could get one for a sign then i'd value that even higher. In that case it would be the actual box that makes it complete.

  4. I think it looks kinda shitty they could've made a way more detailed castle than that stylized version of a long distanced view or whatever it's called. Also the figures are these faceless blobs, once again a stylized depiction of the source material.

I don't care for Lego either way but atleast i'd want figures that look like the classic ones for some collecting continuity towards other series or sets. Even if they didn't i'd want something like bigger and more detailed heads like the Simpsons set, why would i want a downgrade?

I was looking at these too... how do you find it? Pretty similar feel to an original SNES controller?

I have it too i think it's quite shitty i was using it for MAME and it kept registering wrong inputs up instead of right that type of bullshit.

That's the thing,on a bus I always move my stuff stop by stop, if it's crowded. But in a empty coffee shop to demand a certain table, wtf?

Someone petty in the right is still in the right that's how i see it. I might think it's weird that someone wants my extra space instead of the 100 empty ones but i still feel that me sitting like that is the exception/outlier so i don't take it for granted.

So yeah she should've sat elsewhere because it's more socially smooth but she was correct on principle.

  7. The person taking up extra space to put either their things or legs there is in the wrong but it's trivial so most people don't bother with it.

If there's a backpack on the seat next to someone on the bus it's easier to just move along but if someone does want to speak up they are in the right by default.

Altough there's no need to be rude either it seems kinda excessive. Usually people accomodate without a fuss, in fact i've never heard someone say "no".

    1) I'm just going to cherry pick the last one since it's complete out of content. 2) it looks like all (most) of these are on reference to the creation of the commandments 3) you definitely just copy and pasted a google search and don't know much about the scriptures your citing🤣🤣

But here's the full paragraph from leviticus (old testament) where God speaks to Moses clarifying the first commandment.

"Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death.  Whoever takes an animal's life shall make it good, life for life.  If anyone injures his neighbor, as he has done it shall be done to him,  fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; whatever injury he has given a person shall be given to him.  Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, and whoever kills a person shall be put to death.  You shall have the same rule for the sojourner and for the native, for I am the Lord your God.”  So Moses spoke to the people of Israel, and they brought out of the camp the one who had cursed and stoned him with stones. Thus the people of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Further, to take these are face value is fine but these are citations from over 5700 years ago. Idk if you know this, but around 1800, we, in the west improved greatly on these laws and have been further improving these baseline principles.

Your original statement was that only god judges and i pointed out that it's not the case. And i never claimed that i was an expert nor do i have to be.

It's completely fine by me that the religion/the west changed it's mind because i'm more concerned about bad outcomes. I'm not into proving you wrong. It's a "live and let live" type of solution.

Seems like there should be some scripture to go along with this claim.

    Also:

"There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?"

Numbers 15:32-36 While the people of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. 33 And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation. 34 They put him in custody, because it had not been made clear what should be done to him. 35 And the Lord said to Moses, “The man shall be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” 36 And all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death with stones, as the Lord commanded Moses.

Exodus 21:15 “Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death.

Exodus 21:12 “Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death.

Deuteronomy 21:18-21 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Leviticus 24:16 Whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him. The sojourner as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

It's human nature to judge others, with or without even looking at religion.

Some vegans judge meat eaters for slaughtering innocent animals, some meat eaters judge vegans for being freaks. Some exercise junkies judge fat people, some people are judged based on the clothes they wear or the car they drive. Some are judged or judge others based on their sexuality, it goes both ways. The list goes on.

So yeah in religion some people will judge others, but thats literally the same as every other thing in life too.

Yes i know but religion adds divine justification to it wich entrenches the views harder. Then like everything else it will depend on the individual what he does but i'm talking about the foundation itself.

Ingredients for intolerance from a doctrine that says only God is the one who can judge us and that all people sin? Seems like a misinterpretation of the text to me.

That can be one take on it but with unquestionable and eternal morals there's a good chance that those who follow them will feel some type of way about those who don't.

Besides it's not only "god judges" either there are some laws that people are expected to enforce.

People take religion too personally. I never found an issue bring religious and never had it negatively impact my life. It sucks when I hear ppl struggling with living a normal life and having faith.

How personal don't nationalists, feminists, vegans take their views? But with religion you also have the added factor of the creator of the universe supposedly interacting with you and offering continuation after death. I could see the ingredients for intolerance blossoming.

  13. Look at the graphics too it isn't some "retro yet accepable" type of style where one could feel they're playing it a little safe.

The graphics and gameplay here here go way back without any prefix to it. Just like the 8-bit Bloodstained.

Well, now the only decision left to make is which platform to get it on. Right now, all I can tell is that it's on Steam but I hope it gets a Switch release, 'cause I'd rather play this kind of game from the couch.

Get it on PS4/PS5 they have a D-pad that is placed as the main control scheme on the left side rather than tucked up in a "corner". There's also the talk about how the Switch gamepad registers diagonals too sensitively while the docked unit has the analogues that wear out like a motherfucker.

  15. They don't really have bad values i would say it's one of those cases where people get shunned and ostricized for being different. But once you get to know them they are really fine folk!

What type of light and where is it in relation to where you store the games? If it's not blasting the games directly for hours, I can't see it being that damaging for at least another few decades.

Keep in mind these games are now pushing 30-35+ years, and kids/teens used to have them strewn about the room or stacked on top of the TV with incandescent or fluorescent lights lighting up the room. Maybe some were in their boxes, or shoved into closets, but the average lit room will probably not to a whole heck of a lot of damage for awhile.

Most of the faded labels are from flea markets that had games outside under the sun for hours on end, usually in spring/summer when the sun is shining full force.

If you're concerned, I'd say do as Mr Wunderful said and get some good LEDs. They're energy efficient and will save on your electric bill anyway, so that's reason enough to use them.

I mean, at some point in the future the labels will deteriorate, but that's just how glued paper rolls.

Just 2 bulbs inside a oval casing or whatever it's called and i have no idea what type the bulbs are. Some signs on the walls and a glassed shelf.

  17. 1 hour ago, Tulpa said:

So what's the endgame? To keep them looking good for as long as possible?

As long as they're out of direct sunlight and you're not shining a light a few feet away on them for hours on end every day, they'll probably last for decades. In fact, the glue will probably give out before the colors fade.

    Yes to mitigate damage.

You think it's safe? Just the light in your room being turned on that's and there's games in a shelf. But i also had display signs in mind too perhaps even more so.

My answer, though jovial, IS scientific and to the point.

If you want the ULTIMATE safety for your games/boxes, stick em in a dark room. Preferably zero light. You literally asked if such a thing exists as a light source with zero damaging effects, or if that's "paradoxical".

The "fact" that I "must" turn the lights on is not a fact at all - if my primary concern is to not damage my games in any way whatsoever, then they are going to need to go into a light-free vault, climate controlled.

You don't have to literally i was talking in an everyday living type of sense.

The topic is about lights (differing) effect on games even after we've concluded that darkness is the ultimate.
