You do need a two-player game to get the good ending, but there are strategies for a single player to start on Round 99 in a two player game and finish for the good ending. Good luck.

On level 99, it is possible to get to the Crystal Ball and the Door on 1-player. I did it back in 2013 or whenever I beat it. Sulpher talks about a way in his FAQ, no idea how accurate it is though. I think I just got lucky when I did it.

I think it is acceptable for this thread, to bring in Player 2 though. Probably easier.

Either way, after you beat the boss on B2 or whatever, you do have to pause and bring in Player 2 to get the ending.

I remember someone mentioning a trick for the fourth level where if you wait long enough the enemies get easier, or it's almost impossible.

"In Levels 3 & 4 of Elevator Action, WashYourFace figured out that if you sit in a safe spot (far side of a wall) and wait out the enemies as they go more and more nuts trying to shoot you, the aggression counter will eventually roll over and they'll be as meek as kittens for a few minutes. Without that, Level 4 is a brutal, cheap nightmare."

Found this from last year. I'm glad somebody remembered, because I almost forgot myself, and not sure if the NA archive would still have it. I'm writing it down this time (I guess so I can beat Elevator Action years from now).

@nerdynebraskan The more I try to define just how challenging any particular game is relative to another, the more I tend to notice how subjective it seems once I know a game inside and out.

I have found that as well. Once I got determined to beat a game, sometimes I noticed that it isn't as hard as I thought. There are a few high-point games on here, that I don't think are really that hard (but only because I've beaten them before). Sky Kid for 9+2 points is one example. Side note, how is Crystalis 6+1 points??? In my opinion, it's one of, if not THE best game on the system, and not hard at all. Surprised it's not one of the first off the board like Dragon Warrior.

    Shadowgate beaten.

Congrats. I finally sat down with a walkthrough and beat that on 1/30. Thirty years ago I tried to play it and got nowhere. I can't imagine beating it without a walkthrough/guide. Some things are so convoluted. Glad I finally got it done though after 30 years.

Back To The Future  is done.  (apologies for the blur, but that pic had to be taken on the fly...)

I think all of our picture taking needs work here 😁

I remember as a kid, I got a really high score/level on Centipede for Atari 5200 for a contest. But trying to take a picture on a 1970's TV with an old-school film camera was so difficult! I think I spent the whole roll and got 1 good pic

@scaryice, I think you made the right call keeping it the same format as last year with the bonus points. I get the idea of encouraging people to beat games for the first time. But a big part of this for me personally is getting to play through some of my favorite games and getting the satisfaction of contributing at the same time. For a lot of long/tough games, we wouldn't want to turn off the people who have been willing to endure them in the past. For example, we will soon be begging @Daniel_Doyceto play Koei games. We dont want to deincentivize him there!

Kind of deincentivizes me from playing them. I like playing the Koei games, but if other people are "calling" games, then I won't bother.

    20) Super Glove Ball - It really wasn't that hard of a game, despite always being one of the last ones left. Not even close to Ikari Warriors. I spent two hours farming 50 lives, and then I only ended up using half of those. Now, of course I was using guides - playing blind and not knowing which rooms to go to would be a nightmare. This game may seem like an Arkanoid/Breakout style block breaker, but your shooting ability is way more useful, to the point where you should almost never even bother bouncing the ball to clear the screen. So your first impression of the gameplay ends up being quite different than your optimal strats. This is the kind of game that maps shoot to the select button, though. I think I pressed select more in this game than any other. Naturally, select is also the button to go to the next screen - it's just that kind of game, where you can also easily trigger accidental warps under random tiles. There's a lot of flaws here, but still, not the worst experience to power through and complete. I think Arkanoid would be much, much worse.

Yeah it was terrible when I beat it because of the random warps. Arkanoid is a much harder game, but at least it makes sense. Super Glove Ball is just random nonsense. Imagine playing it back in the day with no guide/walkthrough. Imagine playing it with the Power Glove 🤣

  9. So for Michael Andretti, do we have to win with most points on all 9 levels (16 courses each = 144 courses)? Or is it enough to just get the most points on level 1 (16 courses once)? Manual says: "In order to win the title of Grand Prix Champion for a particular level, you must gain more points than any of the other GP racers." which seems to indicate the ending is the same no matter what level you beat? But I don't know how this works...

You beat it three years in a row, from 2012-4. I was just saying, beating it again would truly make you worthy of the title "master" like in Lemmings...

Elkovsky already beat mode 1 this year, so only the other modes still need to be done.

3 years in a row? What was I thinking. Well if nobody else does the other parts, I'll knock them out. It's not too bad if you do them one mode at a time and have nothing else to do.
