Day 7 - 20 games down. The number of games beaten goes up slowly. But every game feels the same. I'm starting to lose track of days now. I have to remind myself to mark when the sun comes out, so I can keep track of the time. I've drawn crude pictures of my family, so I remember what they look like. I almost forgot about little Timmy. I often want to give up, but the only way I make it out of here is to beat the game. I'll keep going.

35 games down. They say that means I'm halfway. But half of zero is still zero. Half of infinity is still infinity.

arkanoid, bard's tale, ikari 1-2-3, top gun 2, shingen, silent service, last starfighter, l'empereur, robowarrior, metroid, might and magic, star voyager, snake's revenge, metroid, pool of radiance, conflict, miracle and one i'm saving for the end if i get there

surprisingly for all the lengthy or difficult games I thought that I went out of my way to complete early just about everything left I'm dreading playing but I'm sure I'll enjoy something

Metroid is there twice, but are you trying to beat it without a walkthrough/map? I finally got around to beating it a couple years ago, and it's really not very difficult or lengthy, if you know where stuff is.  Is miracle Miracle Piano? Just play Jingle Bells and I say you beat it.

It's been a while since I posted about BL2, mostly because I got sucked up into playing a few Switch games and haven't been playing much NES. Just went back and took another crack at it...not gonna happen.

After a few attempts I was able to win my first game (2-0) and I think I more-or-less have the pitching and fielding down. That said, I just cannot understand how to bat. I swing at all kinds of crappy pitches, can't figure out the batting high, low, or center, etc. It just seems like way too many things to figure out in too short of a window. There are pitches which seem, to me, to be between the middle and high swings, and even when I do manage to hit the ball, there's a very very real chance that it will be a pop fly and they'll catch it no problem, or it will have no momentum and be fielded easily by the pitcher, shortstop, etc.

I think I could win a game here or there, but I'm not enjoying it at all and not going to put myself through 81 more games of that.

OK, I fired this up again to refresh my memory. For batting, just push A when the ball is over the base (or close to it). You can push the control pad to reach for the ball, if you want (if the pitcher is tired, you can see it's going inside/outside and still get a good hit on it). A lot of times, you're just going to miss anyhow. In my opinion, it doesn't matter, because you don't want to be spending lots of time playing. Ideally, you'll get a home run at some point and win the game 1-0 or 2-0 or something. The great thing is, if you play defense ideally, they can almost never score (only way they ever score on me is with a lucky home run on a tired pitcher). If they make it to base, you can draw them off base by just throwing the ball around. You can even do this when the next batter has come up to the plate (press B and a direction). When they run to steal the next base, wait until the proper moment (your guy with the ball can still move) and then cut them off and get them out. It's pretty easy once you get used to it. You can even maximize the cheapness by walking guys intentionally. All that said, it is a slog after awhile.

    Knight Rider is beaten.

What a frustrating, irritating, rage-inducing, headache this game is to beat. Christ almighty. 😡

I’m glad to have it crossed off my list. I’m pretty sure I’ll never play it again.

Well you made it farther than I ever have. It doesn't seem like it should be that hard, but for some reason it is.

Apparently I was only a Baron and not a Count like I thought. Man the late game in this drags so much. Hopefully today I can finish it up today.

I don't remember it dragging that much, but I've only played the game once, and that was when I beat it several years ago. (I played New Horizons a lot more). But if you think this drags late game, then get ready for Pirates. Because it definitely does, if you want to get over 100%. (I think you only need 95 though to get the highest rank, but still)

On @scaryice's list of special conditions for beating games, there is an entry for Super Spike V'Ball and it says that we must win the World Cup mode of that game. I am asking for clarification on that, since World Cup just seems like a harder version of the American Circuit. Winning either mode brings up an elaborate ending, and those endings are 90% identical. There's no condescending "Play it on hard next time" fake ending message for beating the American Circuit.

The conditions say "Super Spike V'Ball    Win a World Tournament" ... not World Cup... maybe the terminology there is wrong?... I mean I guess scary can answer but I don't see what you mean...

I never did get any thoughts on the question I asked the other day. Why is the World Cup listed as necessary to clear Super Spike V'Ball?

I just played through and won the American Circuit. After winning those five matches against U.S. teams, I did get a nice ending with music, a nice trophy screen, credits, and then The End.

World Cup is seven matches long, against tougher computer players. I couldn't do better than the fifth opponent when I played there. I just went to YouTube and saw the ending on World Cup. It's literally the same exact thing, except it has a different trophy screen (and the trophy for World Cup is much larger and more impressive).

I'm about to start Roger Clemens MVP Baseball.

Where do you see World Cup listed with Super Spike? They come together on a multi-cart, but that's crossed off on the list, and both are listed individually.  World Cup was already beat, and Super Spike V'Ball is listed at 6 (+1) points.

Crabmaster, any tips? Especially for hitting?

When batting always swing to the wide when you get the chance, but not in the top zone. For example when left handed only swing when you can connect on the bottom right or right middle areas. I'm not positive, but I feel like you have a much higher chance of getting home runs or at the least doubles when hitting in those spots in comparison to the rest of your hit box.

Also with a little practice its pretty easy to pick off their runners when they get on base. If their runner is on first just toss the ball to your Back Catcher and they will make an attempt on second. Run forward towards second with your Catcher and then toss the ball at the right time before they arrive to get them out. Works everytime and on every different base so they basically need a home run to score a point when you get good at it.

I can confirm that once you figure out defense, they almost never score. It's been a really long time since I played though, and all these Baseball games blend together so I would need to sit down and relearn it. Don't really have the time now though 😞

Uncharted Waters is fun and easy; it's just a massive time sink...

Pirates is pretty easy too, and fun for the most part. Gets pretty repetitive towards the end, if you want to get to 100%+  Same thing though, just a time sink.

I only messed around on the first stages last night and it seems pretty chill for a flight sim game. I'll keep alert for that mid game mission though.

Ah, I looked back and the missions I have a hard time with are Octopus and Fort Scrag (I don't remember which of these I can't beat). But if you're able to do them, I might look to you for advice 😉

Started working on Ultimate Air Combat tonight.

That's one that frustrates the hell out of me, because there's one level in the middle I can't make it past. I forget which one. Other people don't seem to have too much of a problem with it, though, so I must be doing something dumb. Other than that, it's not too bad. Good luck!

I've worked REALLY hard to get most of the ones I was worried about out of the way. Recently finished Ikari Warriors and Q*Bert. The last 2 games that I have any worries about are Championship Pool (which @BeaIankhas graciously offered to help with) and Mutant Virus. Feels like if I can get those 2 beaten it would just be a matter of time after that.

Well if it makes you feel better, even I beat Championship Pool. It isn't easy, but not as hard as a lot of other games. Mutant Virus is a bitch, though.

And Mad Max is done as well! I somehow lucked out and beat the final boss on my second try. Ducking and jumping makes all the difference. Also, you can land almost a dozen hits on him at the start of the battle when he crawls up from the pit and onto the bridge. You just have to make sure that you don't fall off the bridge yourself and then pump him with crossbows. I would also highly recommend to visit all four hideouts on Road War 3, so that you can collect all of the crossbows to make the final battle a bit easier. Nothings more frustrating than almost killing the boss and then running out of quarrels.

    Md Max.jpg

Terrible game, but especially terrible since the final password is messed up and doesn't work, so you have to use the 2nd to last password and do a bunch of stuff over, if you fail to beat the final boss. And like Ikari Warriors 2, it's an annoying fight where it's easy to die really quick.

  15. Do I qualify for "Beat Every NES Game 2020 Rank 1" ?
    I was 1st in 2013...

For imports, I didn't really see an answer to whether Sachen or Pirates count.
    Imports:
    90+ nes including Sachen
    44 Pirates
    3 3DO
    7 Wataru/Supervision

So 100+ Imports if the Sachen and/or Pirates count.
    If not, 50+ Imports...

I also think you should add a Pirates icon, because I liked having the skull & crossbones on my old profile 🙂

It's not especially long, either. But it is tedious, thus it always hanging around to the latter part of the thread.

Now there are only three baseball games left among the final 113, and they're all time sinks. Bases Loaded II, Bases Loaded 4, and Roger Clemens MVP Baseball. I will certainly beat Clemens again this year, unless someone is desperate to do a first-time clear on it. But I have never had any fondness for the BL series.

I want to play BL4, but I don't have time right now. In a few weeks I will start it, if nobody else has.
