31-Day Video Game Music Challenge 4 - Day 31

  • The title was changed to 31-Day Video Game Music Challenge 4 - Day 22

Well the category I created for Day 23 is First Person Dungeon Crawler, even though I'm not adding that descriptor on my actual list to keep it uniform and within single lines.

I put in both original and super arrange version of the song Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan - Battlefield - Brush With Death, also called Battlefield - One Step From Death or Battlefield - The Fall of the Final Enemy depending on the source but it's called Battlefield - Brush With Death on spotify, so I'll go with that, although I took the Battlefield part out for it to fit nicely on the line.

The original version is menacingly groovy jazz fusion played by real musicians and the super arrange is for the most part a chiptune demake until it gives you a surprise pummeling with some epic saxophone. I love the duality of these versions a lot. Give them a whirl.

1st through 3rd = Prize of Potassium. 4th and lower = Prize of Potassium Deficiency... no wonder Aguy's pissed.

That Ralsei recolor to look like my character is genius, I love that, hahaha.

Day 31 Favorites:

It's been a great pleasure listening to music with everyone through these threads.  Time to celebrate all of our efforts! 🙂

AverageOliver98

* Thanks for giving me another reason to eventually play Freedom Planet.  I keep putting that one off.

** Thanks as always for putting this challenge together!

Aguy

* That Pokemon theme surprised me the most.  I have less than zero interest in playing/watching anything from this series, but the music keeps getting in my head.

fox

* Wish that Castlevania track was used for longer during an actual game.  I think it only plays while you climb the stairs to the last bosses.

0xDEAFC0DE

* I had to look up Pikuniku after hearing this song.  I then promptly added it to my want list.  Looks like a nice game that's good for a bunch of laughs.

ZeldaFreak

* I recently started playing Spirit Tracks for the first time.  So far I agree that it's underrated.  Glad I finally bought a copy before the price skyrocketed!

PII

* First off, how is Farming Simulator a thing?  That said, blown away by all three of those songs!

sp1nz

* Glad to see some Cave songs up here.  Not much of a bullet hell player, but I really enjoy all their soundtracks, especially Mushihimesama Futari.

nesmaster14

* Toxic Caves is probably my favorite out of the whole Sonic series.  Never gets old!

tigerwolf

* Looking forward to playing ActRaiser Renaissance after hearing this!

Heads up, if anyone was using a link to a GilvaSunner video for their list (regular or Day 31), you'll have to fix it (if you feel like it). A 'few' Nintendo soundtracks were blocked on copyright grounds(removed). The noticeable ones being Kirby's Dream Land, Super Mario RPG, and Majora's Mask.

Yeah, I noticed that. A couple of my songs were GilvaSunner links, which worked when I put together the list, and then literally, like, the next day the GilvaSunner links were removed. Bastards, haha.

What I find weird is that some game OSTs were untouched (so far🤞) even though other games in the same series were gone (mainly Kirby games, but apparently Skyward Sword and Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door survived too).

Yeah, it's always kinda inconsistent with what games actually get taken down whenever these big copyright strike waves happen. I don't even care that much about the videos themselves being taken down, I more so care about all of the old comments that also get deleted when this happens. It's fun to go back to these vids from, like, 2007-2011 and see all the several year old comments on those videos. But then whenever these vids get taken down, poof, all that history just disappears in an instant. That's the part that always makes me sad about these strike waves.

Huh. I never really thought of that. Then again, most of the time I see the YT comments section as 'I Like This', 'I Hate This', 'x amount of people have no tastes' (RIP dislikes). Very seldom do I see stuff like the original composer commenting that they're impressed by a remix of one of their songs or new development history of some game from 80s - mid 2000's (it might help if I looked at the comments though).

Thanks for the heads up.  I had to fix my Day 14 Zelda link because of this.  Funny how it was all too easy to find another video.  Nice going, copyrighters.  The world is now a slightly safer place.

Reminds me of when one of my arcade gaming videos was slapped with a ban in Europe because it contained about 20 seconds of an Annie Lennox song that just happened to be playing in the background at the arcade.  Still not sure if I should be angry or flattered that it was worth somebody's time.
