Wario’s Woods NES going up?

Any idea why this is? I’ve passed up plenty of carts the last few months because I wanted a CIB copy. Now it seems like carts are selling for way higher than I was seeing before and CIB may be out of reach for me atm.

If you want an answer besides "NES, first party Nintendo", I would guess that sealed prices put a cap on what carts and CIBs could sell for in the past because this game was $60 common as balls sealed. Those have either been bought up or prices hiked up to $100s.

That and it was the last NES game ever released (well, non-pirate-wise.) You're not missing much. I have a cart only and it's not that great of a game.

The last licensed game was The Lion King in 1995.

I guess my question isn’t so much “Why?” but “Why now?” The game has had 27 years to pick up steam for the various reasons listed above. I like the game, but I didn’t think a large group of collectors suddenly decided Wario’s Woods was desirable enough for the price to start creeping up like it has.

The explanation of the sealed copies drying up makes sense. Maybe the availability on the Switch NES Online thing has given it more visibility? Virtual console availability is one thing, but if it’s already there on your screen staring you in the face people are going to say “what the hell” and give it a go.

Wario in general got kind of a push lately, I think. Wario Land games went up. Several warioware titles got expensive. IIRC I read somewhere that this traced back to some youtuber (like everything does lately) but IMBW...

I like Wario's Woods, I never managed to beat it tho, got stuck somewhere around level 70. It's not as intuitive as other puzzle games of its kind, maybe a little complex for its own good. But definitely worth a play, especially if you like other NES puzzle games.

Some guy had a case of these on local Kijiji selling them for 60 or 80 bucks a pop a few years back (4 or 5 years). They sat forever... Maybe he finally sold them.

Yea they sat on ebay also. Same price
