final fight cd 72 Member ·
So info is not lost and so others can still contribute any newly found info I'm reposting the Sega CD collector's guide from segaage. RIP. Sega CD Collector's Guide Version 4.0 I'm breaking out of the domestic releases and adding import items. Japan exclusives, PAL exclusives, and anything else interesting pertaining to these regions will be added. NTSC-U Sega CD Collector's Guide Version 3.0 Changes warranting a new guide: -Consistent updates: Yes, developments in the world of Sega CD collecting are pretty sparse, but new items are still being found. Shai'tan did a great job with the original thread, but a more active member needs to take the reins. -Documentation of more than just the games: Games and variants are cool. But so are strategy guides, console boxes, game inserts/contents, and accessories. Let's hear about any physical content associated with the Sega CD. -General overhaul: Not to say Shai'tan didn't have a nice looking thread, but this is likely going to look and be constructed slightly different from the original. Let's keep the discussion, albeit slow discussion, going. If you opened a sealed game, post what you found inside the box. If you find the elusive Bram Stoker's Dracula Version 2.0, post a picture of it. If you just want to say you love the Sega CD, let's hear about that love affair. Always a work in progress.... Hybrid 378 Member ·
TBH Sega CD was an under utilized system it ended up being a stop gap between the Genesis/ 32x and the Saturn. (And was filled with many boring games) Sadly I see no mention of misprints or errors (even though they're only a few known by me) No love for soul star? VGCollectaholic 110 Member ·
FFCD - I was the guy who posted the "plastic long box with cardboard box art" variant of Rise of the Dragon back on SA that you mentioned. As I noted back on SA, it's a jewel case package but all of the artwork is consistent with the original cardboard box release. It's definitely not a repackage/cut up of the cardboard box though, as the rear cover insert isn't the right size and it has the standard SCD jewel case art insert perforations on the folds. The manual isn't an exact match for the manual from the cardboard box release either - the artwork on the front of the cardboard box release has a "content advisory" notice in the bottom right corner, but the manual from the cardboard box release doesn't. This variant has that content advisory on the front of the manual. I've only ever seen two of these. I have no idea if these were promotional copies or what. Here are the pics of mine:

Can you point out where the difference(s) are from the original? im confused about what you’re saying about the night trap variant. You have the red box, red box with sticker, and blue box. CD/32x games are not included because they need the 32x to be played. The pic you included is a CD/32x version. Of course it is a variant, but a line has be drawn somewhere. I choose to make that line at CD/32x games. Edited November 30, 2019 by final fight cd
billybob884 56 Member ·
Disregard the Monkey Island part, I saw a jewel longbox version, so I thought this cardboard box was the variant... turns out the jewel version was just a repro art insert though, whoops! As for Night Trap, the post lists three versions: 89.) Night Trap (presumably the red cardboard box?) 13.) Night Trap - cardboard box with MA-17 sticker 14.) Night Trap - blue box Am I mistaken in assuming #13 referred to the Cd/32X version? Or now that I think about it, does it mean a red box with the M rating badge? Edit: Nevermind! I wish there was a better way to add pictures. But in a forum it can get pretty sloppy with too many pictures.
billybob884 56 Member ·
Gotcha, ok! Disregard that whole post then (I'll delete the post's pics to reduce clutter) Here's a separate question though (I'm new to CD collecting if you couldn't tell, wish I'd had one as a kid...), did Fahrenheit have a non-CD/32X release? If not, should it be included in the list (#44) since the intent seems to be to exclude CD/32X combo games? jxmx3 11 Member ·
I have a nice copy of the Bram Stoker's Dracula Version 2.0 It is a Sticker on the manual with the Version 2.0 printed on the disc. I assume they had some left over manuals/cases with the first print run and some left over discs from the combo pack and just put them together ?

Here are the pics of mine: After seeing your post a few years back on NA, I have been looking for a copy of the Rise of The Dragon version that you posted about. Literally looking on eBay every day for one to come up for sale. Last week it finally happened! The seller posted an auction and fortunately it went under the radar for the week that it was live and I was able to buy it for the minimum bid for $49! This was the last "variant" that I was missing for my complete Sega CD set with all known variants. Since it's a promotional copy, I'm not sure it technically qualifies as a variant, since it was never a retail release. I still had to have it though! lol. His post (screenshot attached) talked about him being a game reviewer back in the day and that's where his promotional copy came from. Since yours looks to be sealed, here are a few interesting notes on mine. It included 2 manuals. Not 100% sure that the second one is original to the promotional copy though. The one that is on the outside of the case is actually blank. It has all the same number of pages as the official manual, and even has the perforation where the registration card would be, but nothing is written on any of the pages. Tried to take some photos of them. The outside blank manual is slightly larger than the other one that was included. My "non MA-17" cardboard ROTD is sealed so I can't compare it to the retail release. The game disk is the same as my "MA-17" cardboard copy. Glad to knock this one out as I finished the variant set about 5 years ago and didn't know that this promotional copy even existed until your post in 2017. :)

Nesjunkie 0 Member ·
I no longer actively collect but i seen the post about the night trap variants. There’s actually a red label box with “MA” rating printed on the box NOT a sticker. Ive only seen 3 copies including mine while collecting. My copy rarebuckys copy and a non cib copy. I havnt collected in a few years so my info on confirmed copies may be dated.

DefaultGen 4,394 Member ·
Maybe common knowledge, but I've never seen this snazzy cardboard strip that held the Model 1 pack-ins together, so I thought it's worth posting. Also saving these pictures of a real nice Model 1 from Ebay I saw while looking into it, since it's always nice to see the baggies and cardboard box pieces there are in a 100% console box: Spoiler
