    Great looking stuff!

Even has Darklands!  Those shelves really do cover the range of PC RPG and Strategy from the 90's.

Darklands is one of the greatest RPGs ever! I have the clue book too, which is much more interesting than most clue books because it shows how in depth the game mechanics were.

It's nice to see someone else here who appreciates the game 🙂

If they hadn't turned into some collectors nightmare I most definitely would be.  I do keep up on it, and randomly I'll buy them, mostly local when they pop up as they're cheap.  The few I do have are spread between a hollow square storage box/foot stand and a small area of a shelf I have it's that few.  I'd argue quality over quantity though with some of it at least, no shame here for owning what I have, and that includes stuff like Knights of Xentar and Powerdolls, to the common things like the Diablo1+2 chest, Maxis Collection 3(SC, Tower, Isle), Lemmings, Starcraft, etc.  They're all more recent pick ups though, but I have since it came out retained one, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.  The art on that one is stunning, done by Drew Struzan who did all the movie posters.

Why do you think they are a collector's nightmare? Just curious.

I'll have to take a look at that later on, unfortunately, my work is kinda ridiculous with what they block 😞

edit: I looked into it and I found that the UV protection is inelligible for the item dimensions I supplied.

I think you should contact CGA / VGA,  - I think they will make a custom case for you with UV protection. They can make basically any case, and they actually answer emails unlike WATA.

I’ve got the box and cart any chance I can pry the manual away?

I'm in the same situation as you, sorry. I have a cart and box, both in great condition, but no manual.

Yeah, I bookmarked the sell page because I wanted to follow this one. I check once a day, or so this was semi-new development  I don't think it happened yesterday, so it must have been retracted this morning.

I know a page or so back, it was pointed out that a couple of billionaires were taking notice of this, so... maybe one of them had a bid in and decided to retract it for this reason.  And before anyone things (well, if they retracted a bid, they probably can't re-bid again) just realize that if they are billionaires, they can pay someone to use a shill account for a final bid.

That said, they may be rich but know one really wants to pay more than they want.  Removing their bid can make this look "not so valuable".  Maybe Notch/The Occulus guy is trying to play a mind game, assuming if they both place a last-minute bid, it they can just put a max higher than the other guy, who is expecting a very low (relatively speaking) final bid.

I don't know how these auctions work, since I've not tried, but if I had deep enough pockets, I still want to play my cards so that I only play $2m rather than $5m because of a stoopid bid warz.

I believe Heritage goes to live auction the day after the online bidding has ended. I have bought a few comics from Heritage in the past, and I always had to wait a day after the auction ended to see if someone outbid me in the live auction. I never looked into how that takes place (whether it is in a physical location or just live in the sense that people are bidding against each other in real time online) but it would eliminate a lot of the tricks people play on ebay.

There are a lot of items that go for over a million dollars on Heritage, so I think they run a tighter ship than eBay.

  6. Wizardry 7 is still the best dungeon crawler ever made IMO. You are already playing 6, which might be the second best ever, and you can import your characters into 7 from 6 and keep some of their items.

It sounds like you want traditional first person dungeon exploring games, which are usually what people refer to as "dungeon crawlers". Here are a few amazing ones from the Golden Age of RPGs that you might not know about. I'm guessing that most, if not all, are available on GOG.

Dungeon Master - The first game (I think) to use "real time" combat where you click a button to attack or cast a spell and that button stays depressed for a period of time until you can click it again. This was used in many games going forward, such as the Eye of the Beholder trilogy, but Dungeon Master is a better game.

The Black Crypt - expands upon the Dungeon Master gameplay and is a great game. Better than other more popular releases (this one was only released for the Amiga)

The Dark Heart of Uukrul - A very under appreciated game, probably because it sold terribly. Great all around, but heavy on puzzle solving. You may need to check a guide a few times throughout the game. That's true for many dungeon crawlers, but this one more than most.

Wasteland - The precursor to the Fallout games, and a great game itself. Good character creation and advancement, good combat, and a good story. If you enjoy it, also try Fountain of Dreams, which was originally planned to be a sequel to Wasteland. For some reason EA decided to make it a new standalone game instead.

All of The Bard's Tale games are solid

All of the SSI gold box games are solid. Death Knights of Krynn is my favorite.

I really wish Swamp Thing on NES was better because it's such an underappreciated comic book character.

I think Swamp Thing is a great example to start the thread.

    I will add:

Conan for the NES (which was a port of the PC game Myth: History in the Making). I actually enjoy playing the game, and if it were polished it could be a great game.

Times of Lore for the NES (which was also released for PCs). It has an Ultima feel and a nice open world atmosphere, but the gameplay is lackluster and it's too cryptic to play through.

I like your list! Drone tactics is in my top 5 for sure. I have commando steel and dark spire. Haven't played them yet though but I need to. Commando steel looks like metal slug, or is it different?

Yep, Commando Steel Disaster is a Metal Slug clone, but it's a great game.

The Dark Spire won't be for everyone. It is an old school dungeon crawler, sticking to the roots much more so than the Etrian Odyssey series. It takes a LOT of inspiration from Wizardry, which is probably my favorite rpg series of all-time. It's also very challenging - not in combat (you can always grind up to beat mobs) but in figuring out how to navigate floors. and I had to use a guide for the last 1/3rd of the game or so.

It already has started to explode imo. Lots and lots of $100+ CIB games, and you have a couple that are that price for just the cart too. Some of the really hard to find ones are $250+ CIB. People are finally catching onto DS collecting and realizing just how incredible the library is. It's not all garbage like what people once assumed. Sure, a lot of it is, but there are easily over 50 great games.

I'm always amazed just how rare some of the DS titles are to find CIB given how popular the system was, but man, finding the case and manuals for some titles is darn near impossible.

Quick, top 5 favorite DS games, and go!

Top 5 DS (I haven't spent much time playing first party DS games but I'm sure they are great)

    Drone Tactics

    Commando: Steel Disaster

    The World Ends With You

    The Dark Spire

    Aliens Infestation

Did it piss you off that the games aren't in the box? I thought that was weird that they didn't find room for them in there. Just sitting in a separate piece of cardboard on top of the chest. Kinda irked me TBH.

Very cool, was that a retail limited edition or was it released by one of the publishers like LRG?

90s JRPGs are better than 90s WRPGs.

Modern WRPGs are better than Modern JRPGs.

The last JRPG I remember loving for example, was Final Fantasy X. But the first WRPG I remember falling in love with was Elder Scrolls III.

OMG you are crazy. Then again, I just prefer WRPGs to JRPGs, but you might be forgetting a lot of amazing PC games that came out in the 90s. A few of the greatest games ever were from the 90s:

    Ultima VII

    Wizardry VII

    Daggerfall

    Might and Magic VI

    Everquest

Give me any of those over Chrono Trigger or FF7.

LOL😄 It's true. There aren't anymore hidden gems/underrated games on the NES. Everyone knows about them.

That's very kind for the shoutout @DoctorEncore but no one wants to watch me ramble and open sealed games.😛

But check out how many amazing Wii hidden gems MJR just found. Seriously, it's hilarious just how bad these games are.

  13. I spend a lot of time watching retro gaming videos on YouTube. My favorite BY FAR is a channel "Gamez Of War". The only problem is how infrequent his videos are, but he is incredibly passionate about gaming and clearly knows what he is talking about from firsthand gaming experience. Luckily for a new viewer, his infrequent videos aren't a problem because you can watch a lot of his old ones. I really can't recommend this channel enough, I get so excited when he puts out a new video.
