Yeah, they killed everybody's Elite Pro the week of Jan 16th.    You should have a $10 coupon to make up for it.

Sucks because even with Pro you don't get the 10 percent used discount (they killed that the same week, even though I had one that should have been grandfathered in)

Dang that stinks! Oh well, I doubt I'll be buying from Gamestop now.

  2. Hey folks,

I know Gamestop ended renewal of their Elite Pro membership a couple years ago, but they said they would honor that membership for people who had already extended it to any date in the future. I extended mine for a few years, and it was set to expire in October of this year. However, I logged on to Gamestop's website today, and saw that I am now just a "Pro" member instead of "Elite Pro".

I don't see anything online about this. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Is that the one titled "Get these games CHEAP while you can" ? I havent watched the video yet but I'm glad you say it's a better format. I see he's still going for that bs angle with the title which I hate.

This guy has had a big impact in prices. You can see the price spikes right when his videos come out. I will say it gets on my nerves.

What bothers me most is how he pretends like he doesn't care or know how much his collection is worth and the only thing that matters to him is sentimental value. He makes his living because these games are collectable and expensive. It's also obvious that he doesn't actually play many games.

  4. How can people be angered by a company for trying to be profitable? If it's their products you dislike, just don't buy them and there's no need to rage.

How can people be so furious at "re-sellers" and "scalpers" who try to buy items for lower prices than they sell them. It's strange considering that's what every retailer does, even the beloved brick and mortar retro game store owner that everyone praises.

LOL, well to be fair, the bible advocates slavery, genocide, so I guess that's fine. Just don't go coveting your neighbor's wife, because the celestial dictator will convict you of thought crimes.

Did anyone else pre-order the Star Wars games that were carded like the old toys?  I picked up a few for Christmas presents and its not looking good.  Originally supposed to ship in October, then Dec and now they are saying January.  Is this a normal thing for LRG?

It has happened a few times before. I know that Pixel Junk Monsters 2 and Celeste were both delayed by very long periods. Don't worry; you will eventually get the games. LRG always delivers in the end.

I preordered this months ago, but I also ordered the regular version of the game since that preorder was up earlier, and came out nearly a month ago.

I'm a huge fan of Bubble Bobble, so I might actually keep the SLG order around for all the swag, but honestly - the new game is so terribly bad that double dipping for it will probably end up making me feel so bad that I should just cancel the order now. It really understands absolutely zero of what made pretty much all the classic Bubble Bobble titles great.

Ugh, that sucks. I didn't even know the game had been released. I just saw Bubble Bobble Collector's Edition and snap bought it.

  8. Here are some others that I haven't seen in this thread yet that I think are solid titles:

    Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage
Battlezone: Rise of the Black Dogs
    Body Harvest
    Buck Bumble
    Disney's Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers
    Duck Dodgers Starring Daffy Duck
    Fighting Force 64
    Flying Dragon
    Goemon's Great Adventure
    Hybrid Heaven
    Iggy's Reckin' Balls
    Micro Machines 64 Turbo
    Rayman 2
    Robotron 64
    Shadowgate 64
    Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth
    Starshot: Space Circus Fever

Yeah, NBA Hangtime is arcade perfect and one of the first N64 games I owned. Used to piss me off as a kid when magazines would give it mediocre reviews for not using the 3D power of the N64....it was literally an arcade perfect port. Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey was also basically arcade perfect and one that holds heavy nostalgia for me as a game we received for Xmas '96 at my house

Also not sure how many of you guys own the Japanese exclusive Rumble Pak 'Shindou' version of Wave Race 64 (or Mario) but I think Wave Race is extremely excellent and holds up great. Using a Rumble Pak is a really enjoyable experience on a game I was so accustomed to not having the feature growing up, and the game has a few new music tracks in it that weren't in the original release as well, plus the cool Orange/Grape Fanta ads that got taken out of the USA release.

I was wondering how we got to page 3 without anyone mentioning wave race yet.

Guardian Legend is a ton of fun, but it is nowhere near as refined as StarTropics, IMO, when it comes to the adventure portion of the gameplay.

It has a fun hybrid genre thing going for it and as a total package it is fun -- but I'd rate it toe-to-toe with Blaster Master and Air Fortress for "blended genre" games (and yes Air Fortress is "cruder looking" but the space suit energy mechanic and fortress-mazes are really novel)

But I'd never rank Guardian Legend as being at the top of either genre it touches on when compared against dedicated genre games.

I agree that the adventure aspects of TGL aren't as good as the adventure aspects of a game that is completely dedicated to that genre. However, I still think it's a better game than Star Tropics, etc.

That's quite a statement to say that Guardian Legend is a better Adventure game than Legend of Zelda, StarTropics, Willow, or Crystalis (though the latter two cross-over to Action-RPG) -- I would even stand up Blaster Master against Guardian Legend, for the Adventure Game category.

Really? I don't think it's even close. It's my #1 by far and I've played through all of them.

Zelda brings back more nostalgic feelings, and of course it was much more influential. The rest are all good, but not at the same level. Then again, I probably like TGL more than most. I'd say it's in my top 5 or 10 for the entire NES library.

  12. Cool idea. I'm going with the games that I think are the best, and not the most iconic franchise.

    Standard platformer - Mr. Gimmick

Action platformer - Not really sure what the difference is. I'll go with Mega Man 2

    Run and Gun - Contra

    Adventure - The Guardian Legend

Shooter - I'd go with The Guardian Legend again, but for the sake of variety, I'll say Gun-Nac

    Puzzle - Tetris

    RPG - Dragon Warrior III

    Racing - Super Off Road

    Sports - Tecmo Super Bowl

    Strategy - Pirates!

Point and Click - As a PC collector, I can't consider Maniac Mansion a NES game. It was the defining PC release for Lucasfilms. So, I'll say Princess Tomato

Arcade - Donkey Kong Jr or Ms. Pac-Man Tengen version

    Zapper - Gotcha

Other - Bubble Bobble (possibly my single favorite game on the system)

I played through both.  Vanilla was way too easy.  And its more fun to unlock a koopa kid compared to some rando dragon pokemon

Oh, I meant the mobile game. That was around long before they released the 3DS game. It's my favorite mobile game ever (although I don't play many games on mobile) and it's a lot harder than the 3DS game. Many more mechanics are introduced as you progress, and harder dungeons are always being released. You should check it out - here's a video or a solid dungeon run. The board is usually 6x5, but he is using a leader that makes it 7x6 which obviously allows for a lot more combos.

    My top 10 11 favorites:

Puzzles and Dragons - Mario Edition (seriously)

That sure is an odd choice, do you play actual Puzzle and Dragons? It's so much better than the Mario game.

Well if the item is truly rare and/or expensive enough there are things you can do visibly in the auction itself, but also more behind the scenes to catch a scumbag if they're up to no good.

On the auction make sure you take images of everything and any side or inside parts of it that should be noted a normal person would look at to decide to buy, nothing overboard.  Make sure they're like 1280x720 or better to get all the little details.  On the auction itself describe it well, but don't talk it up, hell talk it down so you can't be accused of buttering up a sucker.  Also in that listing, describe how you'll ship it, and how you'll pack the item so there are again no surprises.

Not on the auction but to cover your ass: Take more images than you are willing to share, ever, or even admit to.  Get any imperfection someone looking to scam may overlook and save that.  Add a confirmed signature to the item so they have to sign for it at the door or their local post office and insure it for the full amount.  Furthermore, take all your goods unpacked to the USPS, using your camera phone on a stand, visibly bundle, pack, seal, tape and label that sucker there in the USPS and then the actual hand off at the counter.  Doing this I've seen people as sellers win a case because the ebay rep watching the video sees the good go in as described and handed off, so the liar on the buying end got caught trying to say something wasn't in the box and got baked for it.

It just comes down to your level of paranoia and how far you'd take it.  I've never put something so horribly precious out to go to the extreme of videoing the sealing and handing off at the post office, but I've read others have and it worked on the 'the item wasn't in the box' or 'not as described' scam trick.  I've had someone every few years try and lie about what I put into the packing condition wise before and I've just won on a threat before of having better images than posted.  Some years ago some clown tried to say I shipped a Metroid Prime 3 game in less than like new shape out claiming the disc was scratched up and stopped at X point.  Having bought it new and never laying a mark on it I knew what was up, so I nicely told the person I didn't believe it, but if they wanted a return they could but that I had high resolution shots of the case and game, and if the game has a different ring code on the disc or anything else didn't match some high res pics I had I'd have to contact ebay about getting back not what I shipped out, and suddenly clownshoes 'claim' against me was closed by the buyer.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I might have to go with the video route. I'm surprised that USPS, UPS and FedEx don't offer a service where they verify the contents of the box for an extra fee. That would be really helpful.

  16. I have always like collecting things (comics, baseball cards, magic cards) and started "collecting" video games in 2001. At that time, I just wanted to get a lot of the NES games that I wanted as a kid, and bought about 100 games from various Funcolands. Unfortunately, I didn't pick up any rare stuff and didn't stick with collecting NES. Then, in 2012, I got the itch to start collecting more NES games and found out that there were many other people who also collected them as a hobby. My goal was a complete NTSC licensed set, which I'm one game away from achieving (Stadium Events of course) and then I moved on to collecting for other systems.

My focus over around the last 2 years has been primarily PC games. PC gaming was an integral part of my life, and the games are very collectible to me. Boxes come in all different sizes, lots of unique contents were included (maps, figures, trinkets, dice, etc.) which makes practically any big box PC game feel like a collector's edition. The PC also has historic value that digs a little deeper than consoles for me. It's very cool being able to own the first commercially released game in different genres - RPG, point and click adventure, RTS game, flight simulator, stealth game... all of these originated on the PC.

Besides PC collecting, my other favorite system to collect for currently is the DS. There are so many unique games and my list of games that I want just keeps growing as I find out about more great titles.

Probably the original SSI Gold box Trilogy (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades) which ended up as a quadrilogy later on (+Pools of Darkness) or Wasteland + Fallout + Fallout 2/3.

Nice to see some PC games mentioned. You should play Fountain of Dreams if you haven't given it a try yet. It was supposed to be a Wasteland sequel and was quite good. My answers are all pretty generic as they are all popular franchises

For PC, I'll go with a bunch of RPGs:

    Wizardry 5-7

    Ultima 5-7

    Elder Scrolls 2-4

    Might and Magic 3-5

Heroes of Might and Magic 1-3

    For consoles:

    Castlevania 3, 4, SoTN

    Ninja Gaiden 1-3

    Double Dragon 1-3

    Mega Man 1-3

    Contra 1-3

Stella Glow, Ever Oasis, and Code of Princess are games that every 3DS owner should play

I'm happy to see someone else mention Stella Glow. I thought it was amazing but I haven't seen it praised before.

I also liked Monster Hunter Stories and Shinobi, which are 2 other games that I think need more credit.

I'm currently playing Etrian Odyssey V (close to 100% complete on the hardest setting). It's the best game in the series but sticks to the standard Etrian Odyssey formula and doesn't try anything new. If you like Etrian Odyssey (or dungeon crawlers in general) you should enjoy it.
