The Xbox and the PS5 are essentially walled in PC's. And if you don't mod your Steam Deck it is the same.

XBOX and PS both have digital only devices and I don't think I can name a XBOX exclusive off the top of my head and PS are slowly heading that way or having timed exclusives then porting games to PC.

Times have changed and devices like the SD and ROG will be playing a bigger part in gaming as the years go. Not sure why you wouldn't add it to the list, it is literally answering your question if you play games on a modern console and what modern console do you own.

Portable PC is still a PC.  And no, Xbox and PS are not PCs.  Just because a console has SOME games ported to PC doesn't mean they are PCs.  Sony is porting games to PC because they realized there is a MASS market they can tap into without really damaging their console base sales.  You calling a PS5 just a PC is as ignorant as our parents growing up were in calling every console under the sun a "Nintendo".  SNES and Genesis are similar but they are not the same.

If consoles are just PCs then they will stop making hardware and just make software like SEGA.

Steam Deck is just a portable PC just like ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, or etc.  Steam Deck may be the first but the market already has multiple alternatives because it's just a portable PC.  I just watched a video of a gaming store in Japan where there were multiple brands of portable PC gaming devices just like the Steam Deck because it's so easy to mimic it.

I love the comfort of the latest controller design.  I like how a lot of my games are digital so it's easy to see what is games I have to play without getting off my ass.  I also love the graphics of modern games.  Even the retro styled games are still better looking I think.  Art/media just gets better in general with time so go figure I love the new stuff.  Not to say old stuff doesn't have any value.  But I think it's foolish to say there is nothing good about modern gaming.

Came across this old drawing from @T-Pac and made me question how many of us Sages are "modern" gamers.  

Also as an open question, what about modern consoles do you like compared to "retro" consoles.

Just wanted to say that I love that we did the themed VGS at the start of November.  I always love the holiday themed changes of the Sage.

I've started to add video game theme ordinates to my little mini fun Christmas tree.  I think I'll need to get the Dreamcast (lights up and plays Sonic Adventure) and Luigi ones this year.  Though the Minecraft bee is super cute.  I think Xbox and PlayStation don't get any representation with Hallmark this year.  Pretty sure they use to do Halo stuff in the past.  Honestly can't remember if PlayStation ever got the Hallmark treatment.

And yeah I know it's not even Halloween yet, but sometimes these can sell out so wanted to let those who are interested get a chance to get them.

FLAC isn't the reason for the chunk.  It's that most FLAC players are also meant to drive high Ohm headphones.  My Cowon players are pretty small and all of them played FLAC but also I was just driving earbuds so no issue with having enough oomph to drive high Ohm cans.

@Link If you want to avoid Apple products, no touch screens, no special programs to use the MP3, you want FLAC and for the player to not be a crappy DAC.... the South Korean company Cowon is it.  I've bought 3 MP3 players form them over like 15 years.  They still work so I can vouch for their durability/quality.  My only complaint was the fact that some of the older models used a "non-standard" USB plug.  Turns out it was a common plug in South Korean.  They have some products that have no touch screens and some with touch screens but buttons that can control the player.  Looks like they are hard to find new so maybe no longer a viable option for you.

I use Fiio DACs and have no complaints.  I've heard many people say they are a decent high-end MP3 player on a budget.  M3 Pro does cover FLAC type along with a shit ton more lossless file types.  But fuck if I can find anywhere to buy it    Looks like this product is old as reviews are from 2020.  The company is based in China so they know there are people who are selling knockoffs and they do include security codes to double check your product is legit on their website.  Very helpful if you don't buy directly from their AliExpress company website.

If you want a button only mp3 player to play FLAC files then I'd say look for older models made by Cowon or Fiio.  Cowon has been around a lot longer and I don't think there is any issue with fakes.
