  1. I loved SM3 as a kid. I remember when SMW came out, we were playing it after midnight (I believe we opened the SNES on Christmas morning). It was exciting.
    Then we went to bed.

After waking up, there were several more hours of play and while I liked the game, I remember having a moment of realization where I internally compared SMW to SM3. I was a little disappointed because the turtles slid out of their shells when you jumped on them. I didn’t like that the pirhana plant jumped out of the pipes now. Also, I didn’t like that the “brick” blocks were gone and were wholly replaced with rotating blocks. Lastly, I really disliked the raccoon suit was gone and didn’t think the feather/cape was an adequate replacement.

At some point there was a lava stage with traditional style SM3 style pirhana plants. I had a nostalgic affinity for this stage and it gave me hope that maybe the bricks and raccoon suit were hiding somewhere in the game. But nope, I 100 percented the game and not only did we not get the missing stuff, but also the map turned pale and ugly and all the enemies turned into depressing monsters.

Nowadays, I can appreciate SMW, but for a good number of years, I always compared it to SM3. To me, SM3 was the masterpiece template. I wish there was a version of SMW that included the stuff that was missing from SM3 and made it whole.

    A conversation I had in 2012:

girlfriend - Hey, can you check into this Bitcoin thing my accountant told me about? It's supposed to get big and it's at $10 each.

me - I'll look at it eventually.

    ------- 6 months later ---------

girlfriend - Hey, did you look at that Bitcoin thing? It's at $100 now.

me - Yes, it looks stupid, I don't really get it. Probably not worth buying.

    girlfriend - Okie dokie!

    Same deal for me

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Nintendo Land, and Game & Wario are the other 1st party games that won’t be available anywhere else along with StarFox Zero. I like my Wii U though I was also disappointed with it’s lack of longevity which led me to not being overly zealous to pick up a Switch for a couple years.

A successful system launch is extremely important. If the system doesn’t do well in the first 1-2 years, it’s basically dead. Any additional efforts poured into it are basically going into a money pit.

Developers are not going to waste their resources developing or porting games to a system with small userbase. And people won’t want to buy the system due to lack of software.

Wii U had a poor launch and Nintendo knew it early on. They couldn’t move on to the Switch right away because they wanted to make sure they did everything right with the Switch

  4. I’m usually pretty good at Mario games. There was one star in Mario Odyssey that made me put the game down and since then I never picked the game back up again. I tried it so many times and got me so frustrated I noticed I was gasping

The GBA ambassador games were not made available for purchase.  I get giving them to certain people for free, but why not keep them on the eShop?

My guess is that either the system wasn’t powerful enough to optimize GBA games to the level of quality Nintendo would want for the masses (they only made SNES games available to people with the more powerful *NEW* 3DS).
Or they kept GBA exclusive to appease the ambassadors and make them feel special so they would maybe feel less upset about paying more.

  6. I used to really enjoy playing a DOS game called ABUSE. It was basically a dark 2D platformer with aliens. You had to play with mouse and keyboard because it had 360 degree aiming.

I think I found out about this game as a PC Gamer demo. Always been surprised this game was never ported to any other systems.

  7. Me. I didnt get into Prime (I should probably work on that!) It was the first new Metroid that was not Prime so I was happy. The horizontal wiimote and d pad controls felt like a callback to NES Metroid. I probably gave the game more credit than it deserved since I really like Metroid.

I did think Adam was super annoying. I wish there was a no-Adam mode

  8. I used to operate a rental car. It was a newer car but people would always smoke in it. I always found that wiping surfaces, changing air filters, shampooing carpets and febreze was not enough to remove the odor. The thing that ultimately killed the odor was a little machine called an ozone generator.

I would run the machine in the car and close all the windows except one would be cracked open so the extension cord could run through. I would basically run this machine all day long and periodically recirculate the a/c to get the ozone through the a/c ducts.

The ozone generator kills the smoke odor. Be careful with it indoors though, it can also kill people

Fortunately, those games you already have downloaded remain linked to your account, and for the time being you will be able to redownload them if necessary. However, who knows how long that will be for, so my advice is make sure you have everything you want downloaded ASAP!

Also, 32GB sd cards are today only like $10-15 even for top brand names. Might be a good idea to just copy a backup of your sd card just in case something goes wrong

You could always get a lawyer, and take them to court.

Only if they’d agree to payment as a fixed percentage of the court ordered compensation. I wonder if the lawyer would be willing to accept compensation paid out in myNintendo platinum points

The thing is it's contradictory.  The top is auto generated from the look of the text, but at the bottom of that screen capture it very clearly says that to Please redeem your download code before March 2023.  This is quite after before March, almost April now.  That would have been a huge red flag for me.

As a consumer, if the website allows me to pay for something, I assume they will deliver it

**********EDIT: ok Nintendo came through and extended the deadline to redeem codes so now I got my theme.. 🥳

    Domo Arigato Gozaimas Nintendo-san
    I love you again ❤️

    Original (Obsolete) message below:

I spent 200 myNintendo platinum points to get the Samus 3DS wallpaper. When I went to redeem the code in the eshop, it says download codes can’t be redeemed.

On the page with my download code it says it can be redeemed until March 28, 2023 2am. Just below that it says codes can’t be redeemed anymore beginning in March.

I called Nintendo support today and spoke with a lady who put me on hold to talk with her knowledge team. She came off hold and said she won’t be able to have a solution for this since it’s a new error code and the shop closes tomorrow. And also platinum points are non-refundable.

I told her that this is not fair. Why would they allow me to spend the platinum points on a downloadable product that I am not able to redeem?

I guess Nintendo just politely said screw you. Well Nintendo, you are not off the hook. This rant will remain on the internet until I get my points back

  13. I really loved like 90% of Treasures games. In my opinion everything they put out is gold. But just because I like something doesn’t mean it’s good.

When I want to say something is good “objectively” (if that’s even possible) I always look at whether it had mass appeal. Mass appeal means large numbers of people liked it. The best way to determine whether something in video games had mass appeal is to look at the sales numbers.

Looking at the numbers, Treasure games are a niche. That’s why Treasure is no more. They are not viable as a business. We love them because we are video game connoisseurs.

Let me end this convo about treasure:

    radiant silvergun

    gunstar heroes

    light crusader

    mischief makers

    bangai-o

    ikaruga

    guardian heroes

    alien soldier

    dynamite heady

@OptOut fight me in another thread about how they are overrated

You forgot Sin and Pumishment, Silhouette Mirage, Gradius V

All really good games. But something about them just feels like all they can do is short but sweets. And while we think these games are great, they didn’t have mass appeal
