  1. I was super happy when Konami did the Castlevania, Contra, and Gradius Rebirth games on Wii. That was a final little hurrah before they died. It kind of amazed me that they were even able to pull it off, I’d have thought by that time, the types of developers needed to make those games had already all fled the company.

Today Inti Creates and WayForward and the spiritual successors to Capcom and Konami

I like how the OP put up a poll, and the poll proceeds to body slam the premise of the thread.

    🙃

If I was the OP, I’d change it from
    NES Metroid is boring
    to
    Is NES Metroid boring?

Look, if memory is volatile and needs a save battery, it's inferior due to the hardware mechanics.  If I can't save a game save for the rest of my life, the need for a save state is flawed.

Yes, I'm aware you can buy devices to back up games, even with their save states, but that doesn't count.  If a game is made to save a game, but doesn't offer a way to keep it alive for at least the potential lifetime of the game player, then that's a game design flaw.

Any game with a save state is, therefore, inferior to any other good game that doesn't need one.  Now if you excuse me, I'm taking my pocket full of quarters and heading down to my local 80s Nostalgia Arcade!

You lose your high score when they unplug the machine. They shoulda put a daggon save battery in those old Arcade cabinets

There's also a remake that came out for the GBA (Sword of Mana) and then there is the iOS app which is a tile-for-tile remake call Adventures of Mana.

I actually really enjoyed Adventure of Mana and I intend to  rebuild it.

Hmm… should I buy both games in the bundle for $19 or each one individually for $11?

Close. FF Adventures.  I played it first.  Link’s Awakening is pretty solid but FFA was my fist “adventure” game and also the game that introduced me to RPGs. I play it about once every 1-2 years.

Ok I will give this a try. I have had it for years but never actually played it

I felt M2 was much easier than the first. It’s so well made that IMHO, it’s one of two games on the OG Game Boy I’d give a 10.

Haha We’ll be defending Metroid 2 to the grave. I am presuming your other Gameboy 10 is Links Awakening?

Thanks for the links to the guides with full maps! They look radical! Definitely will be in mind when I am taking a look at playing through this bad boy.

If you want to play the NES version, please do consider playing Metroid Mother+99. There are some definitely frustrating parts to the vanilla NES game (I personally can see past them because I have mastered the game)

The patch will make it more enjoyable for new people playing. Also @SilverSurfer

  8. I wonder if a Zelda movie would follow the Zelda formula ( beat 8 bosses to get medallions to open Gannons fortress, beat 4 divine beasts to weaken Gannon, etc.) or if it would be more generic. Like Link just finds Gannon and defeats him

true this is basically the same as the artwork that was used, but his face is considerably uglier here. i think the us of a really had the worst mega man artworks, but luckily the series was still a huge success there 🙂

i mean look at what ico's american boxart did to the game

I think the artist was an American guy and what we in US ultimately got was the image below:

Unless I’m mistaken, I think the Europeans took the American art for Megaman 4 and Megaman 5 and redrew Megamans face. So I wonder if this one may have been a case of the same

And given the recent track record for Alien movies, Metroid would be very welcome doing it right.

Pokémon, Mario and Zelda are the big moneymakers. We already got a Pokémon and Mario movie.

I’m betting the next movie will be Zelda.

  12. The frustration is what eventually makes it rewarding. No pain, no gain.

I get it though. People don’t have time like they used to.

We used to play as a group when I was a kid. Always at least two people watching while one person was playing. So we always gave the person playing ideas and suggestions. I guess when you playing by yourself, you can lose motivation

  13. I used to iron my clothes every morning before work. Since I had to be out the door by a certain time, I learned to iron my shirt and pants within like 2-3 minutes.

in 2017 or 2018 our business had a financial slump and they suspended our 401k match, laid a bunch of people off, and ommitted our annual pay raise. To make things seem less bad, they also suspended the business casual dress code. I haven’t worn a button up shirt since then and I don’t intend to ever again

One more question @phart010 is it work or pleasure, if work what does she do, if pleasure, is it internet/movies?  VGS😏

It was originally for work but now she uses it as her personal. She has a newer machine for work. This one is for personal use and she was traveling with it for vacations (yea seems impractical given its weight). I don’t think she wants to use it with a dock or monitor as she keeps it on her coffee table and was bringing with her on vacation trips.

If new isn’t the route you wanna go I still vote external graphics card, because even if you buy a replacement or compatible card it’s still gonna be 10 years old, used, and probably going to crap out. Although with the port speed on whatever ports are on that Betty the external card may not even work right.

    All signs point towards new

How do external cards connect? Via usb??

A fourth gen i7 could probably be beat by a 11 series i3 at this point and that 16GB of ram is probably ddr2 lol. An m1 Mac air would blow this thing out of the water and you could get it on sale with 8GB of ram lol

I don’t blame you for not wanting to change it though, every time I get something new for my mother in law it’s like teaching someone how to walk again

The deal breaker is the 17 inch display. She needs a large display because of her eyesight. I think the 17 inch displays will put it into a higher price bracket
